DETAILS:
On July 25, 2019, at approximately 9:05 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a parking lot in the 900 block of S. A Street in reference to suspicious circumstances involving a female heard screaming near a black vehicle.
When officers arrived, they located two occupied vehicles, one of which matched the vehicle described in the original call. At the scene, officers contacted four adult males including suspect Jorge Ortiz. As officers detained Ortiz for further investigation, he fled from them on foot. Officers chased Ortiz a short distance and observed him discard a firearm before being taken into custody at the conclusion of the foot pursuit. A loaded .38 caliber revolver was found at the scene of the arrest. During a subsequent search of his person, Ortiz was found to have two additional speed loaders for the revolver. A search of his property revealed a large quantity of narcotics prepared for sales and additional items of narcotics paraphernalia.
Ortiz is a convicted felon and currently on parole for charges related to criminal threats. He also has prior convictions of firearms possession. Ortiz was booked into Ventura County Jail on several weapons charges and possession of narcotics for sales.
At the scene, officers did not locate a female who was in need of police assistance.
