SUBJECT:                 Wanted Prolific Offender Arrested after Brief Pursuit

On September 23, 2020, at approximately 1000 hours, detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Property Crimes Unit were in the area of Ventura Road and “N” Street in the city of Oxnard, when they observed a wanted felon, Luis Saldana, 29 years old, riding as a passenger in a white older model sedan. 

 

Detectives attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver, Mayra Yepez, 24 years old, refused to stop the vehicle.  After a brief vehicle pursuit, the vehicle pulled over near the intersection of Bottlebrush Place and Bottlebrush Court. Saldana was arrested for his felony warrant, and Yepez was arrested for felony evading with a vehicle.

 

Saldana's felony warrant was issued for his arrest because he violated the terms of his Post Release Offender (PRO) status. Saldana has eight (8) prior arrests related to auto theft, and six (6) prior arrests for being under the influence of a controlled substance.  Yepez has a prior arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle.

SUBJECT:    Narcotics Sales Arrest

On September 23, 2020, detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit completed an investigation regarding Jose Gil, 50 year old Oxnard resident, selling Fentanyl in the City of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Detectives developed information that Gil was staying in a motel in the City of Port Hueneme. Detectives conducted surveillance and confirmed Gil was inside of a hotel room. Gil had an outstanding warrant for narcotic related offenses and he had active searchable probation for narcotics.

DEU detectives attempted to contact Gil inside his motel room. Gil barricaded the front door to the room and fled into the bathroom. Detectives forced entry into the room and contacted Gil inside the bathroom while he was attempting to flush narcotics down the toilet. During a search of the room, Detectives located a large quantity of Fentanyl, Xanax, and US Currency consistent with street sales of narcotics. Additionally, detectives located Fentanyl that Gil had thrown out of the bathroom window. Gil was placed under arrest for possession for sale of Fentanyl and Xanax, destruction of evidence, and resisting arrest. Gil has several prior arrest for sales of narcotics and he was booked into the Ventura County Jail with a bail request of $350,000.

SUBJECT:   Arrests Made In Assault With A Deadly Weapon

On September 21, 2020 at approximately 9:20 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a roommate dispute at a residence in the 1800 block of La Puerta Avenue. The reporting party advised that the suspect, Roy Jimenez, a 59-year-old Oxnard resident who is currently on CDC parole for bank robbery, was armed with a knife and was attempting to stab the occupants of the residence. When officers arrived, they heard an argument inside of the residence. Officers attempted to make contact with the occupants however, they were unsuccessful. Due to the danger the occupants were in, officers forced entry into the residence. Upon entry, officers confronted Jimenez, who was armed with a pipe. Jimenez charged at the officers, who deployed a less-lethal device in an attempt to stop Jimenez. Once deployed, Jimenez stopped charging at the officers and retreated further into the residence. Officers then assisted the occupants of the residence to safety.

 

Based on the circumstances, the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) was requested and responded. Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit also responded to assist and obtained a search warrant for the residence as well as an arrest warrant for Jimenez. After multiple attempts to speak with Jimenez to have him exit the residence, members of the SWAT Team and the K-9 Unit entered the residence and made contact with Jimenez. Jimenez remained uncooperative and was taken into custody with the assistance of PSD Leo. During the arrest, Jimenez assaulted PSD Leo with a metal pipe. Jimenez was transported to an area hospital for evaluation prior to being booked at the Ventura County Jail for his outstanding warrant related to this incident. He was also charged with Assaulting a Police Service Dog. No further information is available at this time.

SUBJECT:     Stolen Vehicle Leads to Burglary Arrest

On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a commercial business located on the 1600 block of Westar Drive in the city Oxnard, regarding several employees reporting a burglary of their personal belongings from their storage cubicles.

Employees reported that an unknown male suspect entered the employee breakroom and began to remove personal belongings from storage cubicles designated for employee use. During the burglary, the suspect located keys belonging to an employee’s vehicle, which was stolen by the suspect as he left the business.  The burglary was captured on video surveillance, later provided to Oxnard Police Department Property Crimes Detectives. The video provided a clear image of the suspect, but identification of the suspect was not possible at the time because he was wearing a mask.  

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, Property Crimes Detectives following up on the case located the employee’s stolen vehicle near the intersection of Santa Lucia Avenue and Featherstone Street in the city of Oxnard. The vehicle was occupied by Luis Caballero, a 20-year-old resident of Oxnard. Caballero’s physical description matched that of the burglary suspect captured on video surveillance. Caballero was not only in possession of the stolen vehicle but was also in possession of the items taken from the storage cubicles.

Caballero was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of the stolen property, and burglary; all felony offenses. Caballero has two previous convictions for auto theft in the county of Ventura.

SUBJECT:    Post Release Offender Arrested for Firearm and Narcotics Violations

On September 13, at approximately 10:34 p.m. officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit), and Oxnard K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Channel Islands and “J” St.  The driver did not immediately yield and began driving southbound on “J” St.  As the vehicle continued southbound, the right front passenger was observed throwing an object out of the vehicle.  The driver continued driving and ultimately yielded near “J” St. and Redwood St.   Once the stop was made, an officer assisting on the stop immediately walked back to the area where the object was thrown and located a loaded semi automatic handgun. 

Officers contacted the right front passenger who was identified as Anthony Garcia, a Post Release Offender on supervised release for prior firearm and narcotics related convictions.  Garcia is a felon and prohibited from possessing firearms due to past criminal convictions.  Officers conducted a records check and learned that Garcia was wanted on a felony warrant for failing to report to his probation officer.  The driver of the vehicle, a 47 year old male, was also on probation with search terms for narcotics violations.  Officers searched the vehicle pursuant to the occupants’ terms and located over 300 grams of methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl.  Garcia was also in possession of over 2,000 dollars in cash.  Garcia was arrested for his felony warrant, possession of narcotics for sale, and several felony firearms violations.  The driver was released at the scene.
