During the month of April, 2021, the Oxnard Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), began an investigation into Jose Posadas regarding the sales of Xanax in the City of Oxnard. Additionally, Posadas was on active felony probation for Auto Theft. DEU Detectives developed enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for narcotics sales.

On May 4th, 2021, with the assistance of SEU Officers and Oxnard K9 Leo, Jose Posadas was located in Saticoy. SEU Officers contacted Posadas in an attempt to detain him and serve the search warrant. Posadas immediately fled on foot. While running from SEU Officers, Posadas lost his balance and fell into a parked car. As Posadas was falling, a loaded P80 semi-automatic firearm fell from his waistband and slid across the pavement. Posadas immediately surrendered and was taken into custody. SEU Officers recovered the firearm and found that the firearm was loaded with a high capacity magazine.

After Posada was taken into custody, SEU Officers, DEU Detectives, and K9 Leo served a search warrant at his residence. During the service of the search warrant, officers located an additional loaded magazine, Xanax, Mushrooms, Marijuana, and further evidence of narcotics sales. Posada was charged with several felony firearm violations, including being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm.

The Oxnard Police Department is committed to identifying and disrupting the narcotics activity responsible for creating quality of life issues within Oxnard neighborhoods.  Anyone with information regarding this case or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600, or online via the Oxnard Police Department’s website:  www.oxnardpd.org, and clicking on “Report Suspicious Activity.”  You can remain anonymous if you choose to do so by calling the Ventura County Crime Stoppers. at (800)222-8477.  You can also visit their website: www.venturacountycrimestoppers.org to submit a tip via text or email.

NEWS RELEASE

DATE:           May 5, 2021

SUBJECT:    DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint

CONTACT:   Jose Diaz, Senior Officer

                     (805) 385-7749 | [email protected]

Oxnard Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint on May 7, 2021

The Oxnard Police Department will hold a DUI Checkpoint on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city limits.

Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The Oxnard Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or “operating heavy machinery,” which includes driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home.

Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Operation Planned for May 4, 2021.

The Oxnard Police Department will conduct a bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation on May 4, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. aimed at keeping people out exercising or enjoying the outdoors safe.

The Oxnard Police Department recognizes the need to protect the public by looking for violations made by bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians that make roads unsafe.

These violations include drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, failing to stop for signs and signals or any other traffic violation by bike riders or pedestrians.

The safety of bicyclists and pedestrians remains a top priority for the Oxnard Police Department.  To keep you and your family safe, the Oxnard Police Department offers the following tips when out biking, driving, or walking:

PEDESTRIANS

●       Only cross at marked crosswalks or intersections with a stop sign or signal.

●       Look for cars backing up. Avoid going between parked cars.

●       Make eye contact with drivers. Don’t assume they see you.

●       Wear bright clothing during the day and use a flashlight when walking at night.

DRIVERS

●       Wait for pedestrians to cross the street. Be courteous and patient.

●       Stay off the phone.

●       Follow the speed limit.

●       Look for pedestrians when backing up or turning.

BICYCLISTS

●       Always wear a helmet. Helmets are required by law for anyone under 18.

●       Bicyclists must travel in the same direction of traffic and have the same requirements as any slow-moving vehicle.

  • If available, be sure to park in areas that are covered by video surveillance.
  • A car alarm equipped with a vehicle motion detector will also be helpful.
  • Check with your insurance company regarding catalytic converter theft as many insurance companies do cover such a theft under comprehensive coverage plans.
  • Research catalytic converter anti-theft devices and weigh the pros and cons of having one installed.
