SUBJECT:    Documented Gang Member/Felon Arrested for Possession of Loaded Handgun

LOCATION: 1200 block of Gardenia Street

VICTIM:       State of California

SUSPECT:    Alberto Ocampo, age 24, Oxnard resident

On 6/4/21, at approximately 7:21 PM, Officers from the Neighborhood Policing Team were patrolling the Sierra Linda Neighborhood when they observed a suspicious subject walking near the intersection of Lantana and Gardenia Street. Officers noted that the individual walked up to a porch in the 1200 block of Gardenia Street but did not enter the residence. The Officers believed the subject did not live at the residence and was purposely hiding from them. As the Officers approached the porch, suspect Alberto Ocampo emerged from the porch area with his hands up. Officers searched the immediate area where Ocampo was hiding and located a loaded .22 caliber handgun in a planter box. The resident was contacted and confirmed s/he had no knowledge of the handgun being there.

Ocampo is a convicted felon and documented gang member. A records search revealed the firearm was not registered to Ocampo. Officers arrested Ocampo for the felony charges of felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm not registered to him, and carrying a concealed firearm on his person.

SUBJECT:                 Overdose investigation leads to Fentanyl Sales Arrest

SUSPECTS:               Michael Hunter, 58 year old Oxnard resident

During the month of March, 2021, the Oxnard Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), the South District Neighborhood Policing Team (NPT), and Homeless Liaison Officers (HLO’s) began an investigation regarding an increase in drug overdoses occurring in south Oxnard. During the month of May, Michael Hunter was identified as being involved in the sale of Fentanyl in the surrounding area. DEU Detectives developed enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for narcotics sales.

 

On May 28, 2021, with the assistance of HLO’s and South District NPT Officers, a search warrant was served at Michael Hunter’s motorhome. During a search of the motorhome, detectives and NPT Officers located Fentanyl, Heroin, Psilocybin Mushrooms, US Currency, Ammunition, and further evidence of narcotics sales.   

 

Michael Hunter was arrested for possession for sale of Fentanyl and being a felon in possession of ammunition, both felonies. Additionally, Hunter has a pending court case for a previous felony narcotic sales arrest by Oxnard Police Department.

SUBJECT:    Subject Arrested for Possessing Handgun with Obliterated Serial Numbers

LOCATION:  1100 blk South Oxnard Blvd., Oxnard

SUSPECTS:  Bardomiano Sanchez, 29-year-old Oxnard resident

                      Jose Diaz, 25-year-old Oxnard resident

On June 3rd, at approximately 7:15 p.m. officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) and Oxnard K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a suspected traffic violation in the 1100 blk. of South Oxnard Blvd. The driver was identified as Bardomiano Sanchez, and the passenger was identified as Jose Diaz.  Sanchez was found to be on parole for voluntary manslaughter and is a documented Oxnard criminal street gang member. 

 

Officers searched the vehicle pursuant to Sanchez’ parole terms and located a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.  The serial numbers to the firearm had been removed.  Diaz was charged with possessing a handgun with an obliterated serial number, a felony.  Sanchez was charged with violating the terms of his parole.

SUBJECT:     Out of County Car Thieves Target Chevy Silverado Pickup Trucks

LOCATION:   City of Oxnard

                       Brian Mandujano, 28-year-old, Los Angeles County Resident

On May 28, 2021, Auto Theft Detectives Enrique Alvarez and Greg Utter were alerted that six stolen Chevy Silverado pickup trucks were stolen overnight.

 

The detectives responding to the truck thefts immediately began to follow up on the cases. The follow-up investigation led the detectives to Casa Via Mar Inn located in the city of Port Hueneme, where the detectives observed two of the stolen pickup trucks parked at the inn. 

 

Detectives determined that a group of subjects inside of a Nissan Altima were connected to the stolen trucks. The three subjects were identified as Los Angeles County residents Richard Perez, Sharon Silva, and Brian Mandujano.

 

Detectives found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and battery-powered tools commonly used to steal catalytic converters inside the Altima.

 

As the investigation continued to develop, two additional stolen pickup trucks were found in the vicinity of the inn. In total, four of the six Chevy trucks stolen overnight were recovered. The trucks were returned to the registered owners.

 

The suspects were arrested on drug and theft charges, including possession of stolen vehicles, burglary tools, and warrants.

 

The suspects were out-of-towners involved in a crime spree through Oxnard, and they have been apprehended.

 

The detectives assigned to this case are attached to the Property Crimes Unit. The Property Crimes Unit is made up of Detectives that are committed to solving and preventing property-related crimes in the city of Oxnard.

SUBJECT:    Gang Member Arrested for Possession of a Firearm and Controlled Substances for Sale

On May 30, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop of a blue BMW 3301 in the 1900 block of Ives Avenue.  Officers contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle, Joel Ruiz (18yrs).  Ruiz is a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard.  Ruiz has had prior arrests for involvement in a criminal street gang and for conspiracy to commit a crime.

 

Officers had Ruiz exit the vehicle, and Ruiz was found to have a loaded 40 caliber Glock 23 semi-automatic handgun concealed in his front waistband.  Ruiz was also found in possession of graffiti tools, concentrated cannabis and psilocybin edibles for sale.  During a records check of the firearm, it was found to not be registered to Ruiz, and to have been involved in an officer-involved shooting in San Bernardino County.  Ruiz was arrested for multiple felony firearm and controlled substance offenses.

On 5/31/21 at approximately 1602 hours, Oxnard Police Department's Communication Center received several 911 calls regarding a fight in the alley of the 800 block of La Canada. When Officers arrived they located the victim, who was unresponsive. Despite advanced life saving measures, the victim died. Major Crimes Investigators are on scene and handling the investigation. Additional information will be released in a few hours.

SUBJECT:    Man Stabbed to Death in Oxnard

LOCATION: 800 Block La Canada Avenue (Alley), Oxnard, CA

On May 31, 2021, at about 4:00 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a call of a stabbing victim in the north alley of the 800 block of La Canada Avenue. Upon officer arrival, they located a victim on the ground in the alley, suffering from a stab wound. Emergency medical personnel quickly responded and began life saving measures. Unfortunately the victim did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of this press release the victim had not been positively identified.

The Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit responded to the location and has taken over this investigation. This is the seventh homicide in the City of Oxnard this year.

SUBJECT:    Wanted Felon Arrested for Illegal Firearms Possession After Leading Officers on a Short Vehicle Pursuit

                        Melissa Estrella, 37-year-old Oxnard resident

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 11:18 P.M., an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding in the area of Oxnard Blvd. and Fourth Street. The Driver failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued. At the intersection of Oxnard Blvd. and Cooper Road, the suspect vehicle collided into an uninvolved motorist. The suspect, identified as Carlos Sanchez, was taken into custody. The uninvolved motorist had complaint of pain and was checked out by EMS personnel.

 

Sanchez had outstanding felony warrants and he had a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Sanchez is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a loaded firearm. He was arrested and booked into county jail for several felony weapons violations, felony evading, and for his outstanding warrants. Sanchez’ passenger, Melissa Estrella, had outstanding warrants and was in possession of illegal narcotics packaged for sales. She was arrested and booked into county jail

On June 1, 2021, at 7:20 PM, the department received a call of a missing adult from the 1000 block of Lodgewood Way.  The missing person is Byung Suk Yoon. He is described as a Asian male, 80 years, 5’8”, 190 lbs, wearing a blue and brown checkered shirt and was last seen driving his white 1998 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, CA license #5FTH549.  Anyone who has seen Mr. Yoon, or knows his possible whereabouts, is encouraged to contact the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7740 or dial 911.
