SUBJECT: Shooting Incident, Suspect Arrested

On February 16, 2021 at approximately 8:15 P.M. an Oxnard police officer was patrolling in the area of the Rose Shopping Center, 2001 Rose Avenue, when he heard several gunshots. The officer observed a subject fleeing the area and set up a perimeter. An area search was conducted with negative results.
The victim, a 19-year-old Ventura resident, was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center by a private party.
Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. During the investigation, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the shooting. On February 28, 2021, the suspect was contacted by members of the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit and arrested for unrelated charges. On March 2, 2021, investigators Contacted the suspect at the Ventura County Jail and arrested him for his role in the shooting. The suspect, a 24-year-old male Oxnard resident, is not being identified at this time because the investigation is still ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
