On March 22, 2022 at about 1715 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a fight in the 2700 block of Peninsula Road. Once on scene, officers contacted three individuals associated with a white vehicle. Gonzalez was the right front passenger in this vehicle.

During the investigation, officers learned that Gonzalez was on probation with search terms. Officers searched the area where Gonzalez had been seated, and located a loaded P80 handgun. A 30 round magazine with 9mm rounds was inserted in the firearm. Gonzalez was arrested for possessing the firearm.

Gonzalez is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. He was arrested for several felony firearms related charges.

SUBJECT: Subject Arrested for Possession of a Loaded Handgun and Controlled Substance for Sale

SUSPECTS: Osbaldo Lopez, 22-year-old Oxnard resident

On March 23, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department attempted to contact Lopez in the south alley of the 300 block of Cuesta Del Mar. As they approached Lopez, they observed him attempt to discard a handgun. Lopez was detained and the handgun, a loaded 9mm firearm, was recovered.

Upon arresting Lopez for possessing the loaded firearm, officers located methamphetamine packaged for sale on Lopez. He was arrested for possessing an illegal substance while in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance for sale.

On March 20, 2022, at approximately 3:10 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department contacted a 15-year-old juvenile in the area of Bard Road and Saviers Road. During the contact, the officers learned the juvenile had a loaded firearm in his possession. The juvenile was arrested for various firearms violations.

SUBJECT: Vehicle Pursuit/ Two Arrested for Firearms

LOCATION: 300 block of W. Vineyard Avenue

On March 19, 2022 at approximately 8:13 p.m. officers were dispatched to a family dispute in the 1600 block of Alturas Street. Witnesses reported that suspect Pedro Garcia, age 26, was threatening family members and was in possession of a handgun. Witnesses reported that suspect Garcia fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Camaro before officers arrived and was still in possession of the handgun. Officers learned that Garcia is on Post Release Community Supervision. Officers searched the surrounding area and were unable to locate suspect Garcia. An officer safety message was sent out to police units regarding Garcia and the vehicle he was driving.

Later, at around 9:42 p.m., an officer was responding to an unrelated call for service when he observed suspect Garcia driving the above described vehicle near the intersection of Vineyard Ave and Oxnard Blvd. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop in an apartment complex in the 300 block of Vineyard Ave. Suspect Garcia momentarily pulled into a parking stall, before reversing and accelerating away, leading officers on a short vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, suspect Garcia drove recklessly, including driving against traffic at times. The pursuit ended when Suspect Garcia stopped his vehicle near the intersection of Ventura Road and Bevra Ave. Both suspect Garcia, and passenger Jesus Morales (age 27), fled from the vehicle. Officers chased Garcia and apprehended him near the intersection of Mariposa St. and Camelia St. Garcia was found to be in possession of .22 caliber ammunition. Officers located a loaded handgun magazine in the path taken by both suspects as they fled from the vehicle.

Witnesses reported that an unknown person (later determined to be suspect Morales) was seen tossing some objects near a trash dumpster in the alley of the 2000 block of Mariposa St, before entering an upstairs apartment. Officers surrounded the particular apartment and observed suspect Morales exit onto the balcony and climb onto the roof. Officers confronted Morales and took him into custody. Officers searched the particular dumpster area where Morales was seen discarding items and located two handguns (.22 caliber Sig Sauer and 9mm P80), along with a loaded magazine. Further investigation revealed that the residents did not know Morales and that he entered their apartment without permission through an unlocked door.

Suspect Garcia is on Post Release Community Supervision and is a prohibited person. He was arrested on felony charges for reckless evading and for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition. Suspect Morales was arrested for several felony charges related to the possession of both firearms, along with misdemeanor aggravated trespassing for unlawfully entering an occupied dwelling.

SUBJECT: Wanted / Prohibited Person Arrested for Possessing P80 Handgun

On March 18, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) were conducting a patrol in the 600 blk. of Robert Ave. when they observed Willis Nichols. Officers were aware that Nichols had a warrant for his arrest. As officers attempted to contact Nichols he fled on foot. Nichols fled north through the rear yards of two private residences before he surrendered to officers.

Officers took Nichols into custody for his warrant and recovered a backpack that he discarded in a neighboring yard. Officers searched the backpack and located a loaded 9-millimeter Glock-style Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun. Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are sold commercially as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms. Nichols is on supervised release and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition as a part of his probation terms. Officers arrested Nichols for several felony firearms related charges and for resisting arrest.

SUBJECT: Parole Search Results in Firearm Arrest

On March 18, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) responded to the 300 blk. of East Fir Ave. to conduct a parole search on Gilbert Vasquez. Vasquez is a documented Oxnard criminal street gang member who is on parole for firearms possession, grand theft, and conspiracy.

Officers contacted Vasquez in a motorhome that was parked in the south alley of his residence. Vasquez was in the company of three additional documented criminal street gang members. The occupants of the motorhome were removed from the vehicle so that officers could conduct the parole search. Officers located two loaded handguns in the vehicle. One of the handguns was a loaded .45 caliber Glock-style Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun. Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are sold commercially as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms. The second handgun found in the motorhome was a 9-millimeter Ruger semi-automatic handgun.

Vasquez was taken into custody for violating the terms of his parole. Officers arrested Anthony Molina for possessing one of the firearms found in the motorhome. Officers arrested the two remaining occupants for a misdemeanor warrant and for possession of methamphetamine.

SUBJECT: Documented Gang Member Arrested for Firearms Possession

LOCATION: 100 blk West Pleasant Valley Rd., Oxnard

On March 18, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Pleasant Valley and Saviers Rd. The officers contacted the occupants and identified two rear passengers as documented Oxnard criminal street gang members. Officers learned that both of the rear passengers were on supervised release for weapons violations.

Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and officers conducted a probation search. During the search, officers located .38-caliber ammunition in the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle. Officers continued searching in and around the vehicle and located a loaded .38 revolver near the vehicle. Officers ultimately arrested one of the rear passengers, Christopher Diaz, for felony firearms possession.

Five DUI Drivers arrested during St. Patrick’s Day

DUI checkpoint and saturation patrols

On March 17, 2022, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., Oxnard officers held a DUI checkpoint on Victoria Avenue south Wooley Road. Specially trained officers also conducted a citywide DUI enforcement saturation. The checkpoint and DUI saturation patrols resulted in five DUI alcohol arrests and 26 traffic citations.

Checkpoint locations and DUI saturation patrols are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

Funding for this checkpoint and DUI enforcement patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Oxnard Police Department Encourages Safe St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Oxnard, Calif. – This St. Patrick’s Day, the Oxnard Police Department will be on alert for suspected impaired drivers and reminds the community to celebrate the holiday responsibly.

Additional officers will be on patrol in the evening hours of March 17^th looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Additionally, there will be a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint being conducted at an undisclosed location in the City of Oxnard.

During the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day holiday period, nearly half of all traffic deaths throughout the country involved a drunk driver.

The Oxnard Police Department wants to warn the community that alcohol is not the only substance that can cause impairment. Cannabis, prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and illegal drugs can all lead to a DUI.

If you ever see a suspected drunk driver on the road, call 911.

On Friday, March 11, 2022, at about 6:30 P.M., Yvette Raena Baird was seen leaving the Camelot Room getting into a vehicle with a 50-year old Hispanic male. She was last seen by the California Highway Patrol in Blythe, California, at about 2:00 A.M. on March 12, 2022. Ms. Baird was driving a white, 2-door Honda Accord with California license plate 6ZLJ398. Ms. Baird was in the company of the Hispanic male whom she left with from the Camelot Room.

On March 12, 2022, at about 8:00 A.M., the vehicle Ms. Baird was last seen driving was captured on a traffic camera in the area of Channel Islands Boulevard and Ventura Road in Oxnard.

Yvette Raena Baird is described as a 56-year-old white female, 5’7, 160-170 lbs, blonde hair, and green eyes. She was wearing a gray crewneck sweater, black jeans, black/gray sneakers, and a dark gray purse. Ms. Baird suffers from a serious medical condition that requires medication and medical treatment.

She was reported missing by her family on Saturday afternoon, March 12, 2022. Due to Ms. Baird’s serious medical condition, Detectives with the Oxnard Police Department’s Family Protection Unit upgraded Ms. Baird’s disappearance to “At-Risk.”
