The US Post Office at 1961 N. C Street in Oxnard was briefly evacuated shortly after 1 p.m. after a man walked in and claimed he had a bomb in his backpack.

Officers evacuated the post office and the suspect was safely taken into custody after a short standoff with police.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad searched the backpack but did not find any trace of a threat and determined the area was safe.

Officers are working closely with the US Postal Service to determine the charges against Glenn Stombres,52, from Oxnard.

SUBJECT: 2021 Downtown Oxnard Holiday Parade – Road Closures

On December 4, 2021, the Oxnard Downtowners Foundation will be hosting its annual Downtown Holiday Parade themed “Superhero Christmas.” The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m.

The Oxnard Police Department will be handling traffic control to expedite the flow of traffic surrounding the event site. Traffic delays should be expected beginning at 9:00 a.m. The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

A Street from Wooley Road to Fifth Street
Ninth Street from A Street to C Street
Fifth Street from A Street to C Street
C Street from Sixth Street to First Street
Second Street from D Street to A Street
B Street from Fourth Street to Fifth Street and First Street to Second Street
A Street from First Street to Second Street

Parking will be restricted along the parade route and some surrounding streets. The recommended parking area for people attending the parade is the free public parking structure located at Third Street and B Street.

These traffic flow modifications are taking place to assist in relieving the traffic congestion from this event in a timely and orderly fashion, with caution for pedestrians.

SUBJECT: Gang Member Arrested for Unlawful Firearm Possession

On December 2, 2021 at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) were conducting uniformed gang enforcement in the area of Hobson Way and Seventh Street when they conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the 700 block of Hobson Way. Officers contacted the driver, Andres Ibarra (20yrs). Ibarra is a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard. Ibarra is currently on probation in the County of Ventura for firearms possession.

Officers conducted a probation search of Ibarra and his vehicle. During the search, officers located a loaded 9 millimeter Glock-style Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun with a laser sight attachment and additional loose 9 millimeter rounds of ammunition concealed in the vehicle. Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are commercially sold as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms. Ibarra was arrested for various felony firearm related charges.

SUBJECT: Serious Injury Traffic Collision

On December 2, 2021, at approximately 11:59 p.m., Oxnard Police Officers, Oxnard Fire Department Personnel and EMS personnel responded to a call of a traffic collision, involving a single vehicle that occurred on Fifth Street east of Portofino Place. Oxnard Police Department Traffic Officers responded to assist with the investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, it was determined that a 2011 Jeep Liberty was traveling east on Fifth Street when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree on the south side of Fifth Street.

The driver of the 2011 Jeep Liberty, identified as a 66-year-old male of Oxnard, sustained critical injuries from the collision and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this collision.

SUBJECT: Vehicle Fire Leaves Oxnard Man in Critical Condition

On November 28, 2021, at about 0059 hours, the Oxnard Police Department, along with Oxnard Fire Department, responded to 105 North Oxnard Boulevard, regarding a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that two males had been seated inside the vehicle when it caught fire. Both parties were able to exit the vehicle as the passenger compartment was overcome by flames. Several people standing nearby ran over to help the two victims as they exited the vehicle.

The Oxnard Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. The two victims were transported to the local hospital for further medical treatment. Thomas Solis, an Oxnard resident, was later listed in critical condition. Juan Cabrales, also an Oxnard resident, was listed in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Investigators are seeking the assistance of anyone that may have seen the fire start or was in the area when this incident occurred. There were several people that assisted the victims as they exited the vehicle. Many of those people left prior to officer arrival and have not yet been identified.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Oxnard Police Department joined other law enforcement agencies across the country in October's “Pink Patch” campaign to raise funds and spread awareness for the battle against breast cancer. This year, Oxnard P.D. partnered with the newly-formed Oxnard Police Community Foundation and teamed with several local sponsors to raise funds through online auctions, a GoFundMe campaign, and several community “pop-up” fundraisers hosted at Oxnard Starbucks locations and Farmer’s Markets. These efforts raised a total of $15,000.00 for the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity that provides support to breast cancer patients and survivors across Ventura County.

Oxnard Police Senior Officer Maria Peña spearheaded the campaign, and noted, “We picked Ribbons of Life as this year’s recipients, because I like how their services stay local and specifically benefit breast cancer patients and survivors who are right here, in our county.”

Upon receiving the donation at a recent presentation, Ribbons of Life President Sylvia Rosolek stated, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your Pink Patch campaign to benefit Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation. Senior Officer Maria Peña did an outstanding job in organizing and executing the month-long event. It was heartwarming to see the Oxnard Police Department, Starbucks, and the community come together to support our cause. Thank you to everyone involved. On Monday, November 29, 2021, at 1:18 a.m., officers with the Oxnard Police Department contacted felony wanted subject Raymond Rivas in the 3700 blk Saviers Rd, Oxnard. During a search, Rivas was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Rivas is a prohibited person from possessing firearms. Rivas was arrested for numerous firearm violations.

SUBJECT: Oxnard “Peeping Tom” Arrested for Stalking; Police Seek Additional Victims

Oxnard Police Department investigators assigned to the Property Crimes Unit conducted a month-long investigation into several reported incidents of an unknown male peering through apartment windows between the 900 and 1000 block of West Gonzales Road in the City of Oxnard.

During the investigation, investigators gathered vital information and video surveillance from residents in the area. With the obtained information, investigators identified the suspect as 31-year-old Oxnard resident Jesus Renteria.

On December 1, 2021, at approximately 6:30 PM, investigators located Renteria in the 900 block of West Gonzales Road and arrested him. Details learned during the investigation ultimately led to Renteria being charged with stalking, a felony. Renteria’s bail was set at $300,000.

SUSPECTS: Jesus Magana Herrera, 25-year-old Santa Maria resident

On Thursday, November 25, 2021, at 1:53 a.m., officers with the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of South Oxnard Boulevard reference a subject firing a firearm up in the air during an altercation. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area northbound on Oxnard Boulevard in a red Jeep Cherokee. Responding officers located the vehicle by the gas pumps of the Arco Station located at 105 South Oxnard Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle was contacted by officers and was identified as Jesus Magana Herrera (25yrs). During a search of Herrera’s vehicle, a loaded Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun was located under the driver seat of the vehicle. The firearm came back as a stolen firearm out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Herrera was arrested for various firearm related charges.
