DETAILS:
On 12/24/2009 at about 1640 hours, victim Mateos was on his way to work driving a Scat Access Van. Mateos stopped at an ATM on the corner of Second Street and “A” Street to withdraw money from his account. As soon as Mateos obtained his money from the ATM, the suspect approached him and demanded the money. The suspect was in possession of a 7” long metal rod which he used as a weapon. The victim refused to give the suspect his money. The suspect punched the victim in the face and the victim and the suspect began to fight. The two fell to the ground and the suspect continued to punch the victim in an attempt to take his money. Three residents of the City of Port Hueneme were driving South on “A” Street when they observed the suspect beating the victim. The witnesses made a U-turn and returned to the scene. The three witnesses worked together to break up the fight and subdue the suspect. The three witnesses held the suspect until police arrived a short time later. The three witnesses positively identified Zachary Miller as the suspect.
