DETAILS:
The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will have several officers patrolling the streets of Oxnard searching for DUI drivers this Super Bowl Sunday night from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Avoid the 14 Ventura County, will also have officers and deputies patrolling the cities of Santa Paula, Camarillo, Ojai, and Fillmore before and after the game.
Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s biggest and most entertaining national sporting events as friends and families gather to socialize and watch the big game. Yet, it is also one of the Nation’s most dangerous days on the roadways due to impaired driving.
In 2008 alcohol Involved fatalities resulted in 1355 killed in California with another 28, 457 injured. On Super Bowl Sunday 2009, 11 people died which is three times the daily average. There were another 133 injured because of alcohol impairment which was over twice the daily average.
“We want to pass our safety message to everyone who will be drinking this weekend, real Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk,” said Oxnard Police Chief John Crombach. “Please make the right decision and hand off your keys to a designated driver before the Super Bowl party begins. Getting caught driving while impaired will result in costly penalties including the loss of your driving privileges.”
Impaired-driving crashes—and fatalities—can be prevented. Designating a sober driver should be on the top of everyone’s Super Bowl party list.

OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: The Oxnard Police Department will be conducting one of three multi-location sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints in February this Friday night, February 12th, 2010, from 6:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M. The checkpoint will be held throughout the City of Oxnard and is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additional officers will be on patrol after the checkpoint conducting additional DUI enforcement. During the month of January 2010, the Oxnard Police Department investigated 25 DUI related crashes in the City of Oxnard. “Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest” is all around the state. The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several additional DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols in 2010. All of these operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: On February 8, 2010 at 7:35 PM the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a robbery at a business in the 3800 block of Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard. Upon arrival, officers discovered the business employee had suffered minor wounds inflicted during an altercation with the suspect. The employee did not require medical treatment. The suspect had fled the scene prior to the officers arriving and a search of the area was conducted. A 25 year old male subject was later detained in the area. That subject was arrested by officers and detectives were called to the scene. The Violent Crimes Unit detectives are currently conducting an investigation. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: During the operation, officers conducted 90 traffic stops and conducted 12 DUI investigations. These investigations led to the arrest of 7 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two of the drivers arrested for DUI had a blood alcohol level that was nearly twice the legal limit. One of the seven arrested drivers was under the age of 21 with a blood alcohol level of over twice the legal limit. A fourth driver was arrested after found to be driving under the influence of prescription medications and was involved in a traffic collision. Officers also issued 27 traffic citations for various vehicle code violations. 13 of the drivers stopped were unlicensed and one of those drivers was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Officers towed 8 vehicles and the owners of the towed vehicles will face a minimum release fee of $494.00. Tonight’s DUI saturation patrol was in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes specifically on Super Bowl Sunday. California statistics show that Super Bowl Sunday has one of the highest alcohol related collision rates of the year. The Oxnard Police Department is dedicated to making our community and roadways safer though these enforcement operations. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: On 2-5-10, officers responded to the area of Oxnard Boulevard and First Street to contact a victim of a robbery. Upon officers’ arrival, they located the victim and noticed he had suffered a major head injury. The victim was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. The victim told officers he was walking near Durley Park in the early morning hours when he was approached by two Hispanic males. The two suspects demanded money from the victim and then began to batter him numerous times. The suspects ended up taking an unknown amount of currency from the victim along with his jacket. The victim walked around the City of Oxnard for sometime until he arrived in the area of First Street and Oxnard Boulevard and received assistance. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: On 2-2-10, Oxnard Police Officer Robert Valenzuela was patrolling the 600 block of Ibiza Lane when he observed a suspicious vehicle travelling down the street. As the officer started to follow the vehicle, he observed that the vehicle was following a male subject who had been looking through the windows of several parked vehicles. The male subject eventually entered the vehicle and it began to drive away. As the officer stopped the vehicle at a cul-de-sac the male passenger fled. The vehicle was determined to be stolen and 28 year old, Oxnard resident Cherie Marie Chavira, was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. After a search of the area 40 year old, Oxnard resident Rodney Ray Yanez was apprehended and arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Residents are reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: It was reported that the vehicle was stolen during a robbery and carjacking that occurred on 1/31/2010. The victim told officers that a Hispanic female and a white female asked him for a ride. He was directed to an unfamiliar area of the city when two Hispanic males approached the vehicle. The two males pulled the victim out and pushed him into the rear seat where they held him against his will. The Hispanic female entered the driver’s seat and the white female sat in the front passenger seat. He was driven around the city before being taken to an alley in the area of Woolley Road and ‘J’ Street. The female stopped the vehicle and the two males demanded money from the victim. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the two males assaulted the victim and pulled him out of the vehicle. The four suspects then fled the area in the victim’s vehicle. A subsequent investigation was conducted and Lorraine Lopez was positively identified as the Hispanic female suspect involved in the carjacking and robbery. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: On 1-31-10 at 1:07 AM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of an assault in the area of the 2700 block of Detroit Drive. Upon officers arrival they located two gunshot victims. One victim was shot twice and the second victim was shot once; both victims suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to St John’s Regional Center where they were listed in stable condition. The victims told officers they were attending a party in the 2700 block of Detroit Drive and were standing in the street when the shooting occurred. Witnesses said that the suspect was a passenger in a newer model gray Toyota Corolla. The suspect and vehicle fled the area after the shooting. No motives for the shooting or suspects have been identified. Violent Crimes Unit detectives are conducting an investigation. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: A 16 year old male, resident of Camarillo was shot and killed while attending a party in Oxnard Saturday Morning. On 1-30-2010 at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a shooting victim in the 700 block of Rialto St. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located the victim inside of a residence who suffered a fatal gunshot wound. While officers were on scene, they learned that two additional victims were hit by gunfire. The victims included an 18 year old female from Oxnard and a 22 male, also an Oxnard resident. Both subjects were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive. Investigators determined that the victims were attending a party at a residence located on Rialto St. The three victims were inside of the house standing in front of the entry way when several gunshots were fired through the door hitting the victims. Several people attending the party ran out of the back of the house to get away from the gunfire. The suspect has not been identified and it is not clear as to why the house was targeted. The name of the deceased victim is being with-held pending notification of next of kin. OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENTPRESS RELEASE
DETAILS: The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Division conducted two Sobriety and Driver’s License checkpoints on January 29th, 2010, from 6:00 P.M. to midnight. The first checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Rose Avenue @ Lindsay Place. The second checkpoint was conducted in the westbound lanes of Pleasant Valley Road @ C Street. Officers screened 690 motorists who passed through the checkpoints. Officers conducted five DUI investigations that led to the arrest of one driver for DUI. One of those drivers had a blood alcohol level of over three times the legal limit. During the checkpoint, an Oxnard Police Department motor officer observed a vehicle commit a vehicle code violation and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was found to be stolen and a brief pursuit occurred before all occupants fled from the vehicle on foot. The vehicle was also found to have stolen license plates. As of this time, no arrests have been made in this incident. 37 drivers were issued citations for various drivers’ license violations. 27 vehicles were towed and the owners of those vehicles will face a minimum tow fee of $494.00. 27 drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and two drivers were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license. The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year.
