DETAILS:

On 6/25/10 around 06:55 AM, Officers responded to a call of a robbery that had just occurred to a person at 2814 Saviers Rd, outside the Lauderland Wash and Dry. Once officers arrived they were told a suspect was in the business while patrons were doing their laundry.

The victim exited the business with her purse on a cart. The suspect grabbed the purse from the laundry cart and a brief struggle with the victim ensued over the purse. The suspect fled with the victim’s property. The victim gave chase to the rear of the business. The suspect brandished a handgun at the victim, who continued to pursue the suspect.

As the suspect neared his vehicle, which was parked in a nearby neighborhood he fired one shot from his gun at the victim. The victim was not hit by the gunfire. The suspect entered his vehicle and fled the scene.

The Oxnard Police Department wants to remind residents of the dangers of pursuing the suspect of a crime. The best practice is to be a good witness and obtain a detailed description of the suspect(s) as well as any possible get away vehicles.

DETAILS:

Early this morning officers responded to a call of a robbery that had just occurred to a person at 2814 Saviers Rd, outside the Lauderland Wash and Dry. Once officers learned that an armed robbery had occurred to a customer at Lauderland. They were also told that the suspect was armed and had fired a shot at the victim while he was leaving the area.

This afternoon investigators retrieved surveillance footage from inside the business prior to the robbery. This is the suspect prior to leaving the business and grabbing the victim’s purse.

If anyone recognizes the suspect in this photo they are asked to call 911 and have the local law enforcement contact him. He is considered armed and dangerous. On the above date and time, Oxnard Police Officers attempted to stop Suspect Meza for failing to stop at a stop sign. Meza led officers on a thirty minute vehicle pursuit from South Oxnard to Thousand Oaks. Meza’s vehicle ran out of gas and he was apprehended along with Jose Cancino and three juveniles. Meza was charged with felony evading (2800.2(a) CVC) and felony child endangerment (273a(a) PC). Cancino was not charged and released at the Oxnard Police Department. The three juveniles were arrested for violating their probation and released to their parents.

On June 18, 2010, Oxnard Police detectives arrested Pablo Manuel Cruz (D.O.B. 2/21/91) for the drive-by shooting murder of thirteen-year-old Joseph Jacquez. Jacquez was shot to death at 1^st Street and Roosevelt Avenue on June 10, 2009.

Cruz, a Santa Paula resident who has ties to an Oxnard gang, is being sent to the Ventura County Jail, where he is being held without bail. He is being charged with murder (187 PC) and a gang allegation (186.22 PC).

The Oxnard Police Department will not provide further information about the circumstances of this arrest or other details about the investigation at this time, since additional arrests are anticipated. Investigators believe that Cruz did not act alone while committing this criminal act.

During game 6 of the NBA Championship Series, the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on June 15th, 2010, from 6:00 P.M. to 11 P.M.

The checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Rose Avenue at Lindsay Place.

Officers screened 565 motorists who passed through the checkpoint. Officers conducted three DUI investigations with drivers who had been drinking alcohol and one driver was arrested for DUI. This driver’s blood alcohol level was over two times the legal limit of .08.

28 drivers were issued citations for various drivers’ license violations. 26 drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and two drivers were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license. Eight vehicles were towed from the checkpoint.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will deploy several officers for DUI saturation patrol this Thursday night, June 17^th, during game 7 of the NBA Championship Series.

The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several additional DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols during the upcoming summer months. The Summer DUI deployments will kick-off July 4^th weekend. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. The checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA).

On 6-15-10 at approximately 7:30pm, officers responded to Eastwood Park in the City of Oxnard regarding suspicious circumstances. Multiple witnesses told officers they observed the above listed vehicles traveling southbound on F St. near the intersection of Hazelwood and F St. They observed 8-10 subjects get out of the vehicles and approach a 13 year old male walking eastbound in the park approaching F St. The subjects forced the male victim into the Toyota Avalon. Both vehicles were last seen southbound on F St.

At this time the identity of the victim is not known. An investigation is actively continuing.

On 6-15-10, officers responded to Ventura County Medical Center and contacted the victim, who wished to report a robbery that occurred 9 days prior on June 5, 2010. Victim Cahue told investigators that he was walking in the area of the 400 Block of West Vineyard Ave., when he was approached by the two suspects. The suspects asked for money then assaulted the victim. The suspects took property from the victim and fled the area. An investigation is continuing.

The victim reported that, on 06/14/10, at approximately 2030 hours, he was walking on the north side of Johnson Creek Park when he was confronted by (3) Hispanic male suspects, all armed with handguns. The suspects demanded money, then took property from the victim, including keys to his personal vehicle. The victim later discovered that his vehicle was stolen.

An investigation is continuing.

On Sunday, June 13^th, 2010, officers from the Oxnard Police Traffic Unit conducted DUI saturation patrol between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and midnight.

These officers stopped 55 vehicles, conducted 10 DUI investigations, and arrested three drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two of the three drivers were discovered to have had multiple DUI arrests in the past and were therefore charged with felony DUI violations. The third driver arrested for DUI had a blood alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit of .08. Officers also issued 23 citations to drivers for various vehicle code violations. 11 of the drivers who were stopped did not have a valid driver’s license.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be out once again searching for DUI drivers on Tuesday, June 15th, during game 6 of the NBA Championships. A sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint is scheduled for that night in the City of Oxnard. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our community and roadways safer. These operations are funded through grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) though the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
