DETAILS:

On April 04, 2010 at approximately 1:00am, Oxnard Police Officers received a call of a possible shooting victim in the 1300 block of Gardenia Street. Upon arrival, one victim was found with a gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to a local hospital and listed in serious condition.

Oscar Barron Garcia, a 23 year old male, was arrested in connection with the shooting. The victim’s information is being with held as the investigation is still on-going.

DETAILS:

On 3-30-10 during the early morning hours investigators assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit conducted a search warrant. This search warrant was to obtain tagging paraphernalia and additional associated items. During the search warrant investigators located a small grow of marijuana and evidence for sales paperwork.

The suspect Marissa Pech, 21 years of Oxnard was arrested for the cultivation of marijuana for sales and booked into the Ventura County jail. Investigators located additional items relating to the tagging investigation.

Tagging crimes in the city of Oxnard cost the city millions of dollars each year to clean up or abate. The city officials and police have a zero tolerance in dealing with taggers and the crimes they commit. Future arrests are pending.

On 3/26/10 at 1405 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were monitoring the drainage canal to the rear of the Wagon Wheel Ice Skating Rink reference ongoing graffiti to the walls and canal.

Officers observed two male juveniles engaging in acts of graffiti vandalism. After additional officers arrived to assist, the juveniles were taken into custody. Further investigation revealed the juveniles were responsible for over 65 acts of graffiti in the area.

Both juveniles were released to their parents pending court appearance. As part of the court process, the Department plans to seek restitution in the amount of $20,000.

Officers will continue to monitor locations throughout Oxnard for violators as part of the City’s “zero tolerance” approach to graffiti vandalism. Those that engage in this type of destructive behavior will be faced with fines, community service, and probation.

On 3/25/2010, at about 11:15 P.M., a resident arrived home in their vehicle when they noticed a male subject standing on top of the eave of the second story of their home located in the 1100 block of Offshore Street, Oxnard. The male subject was attempting to open a second story window. The subject jumped off the roof and fled when confronted by the resident of the home. Responding Oxnard police officers located a subject who fit the description of the subject who fled a short distance from the victim’s residence. The subject was identified by the resident and arrested.

The suspect (Daniel Matthew Hernandez, 23 years old, of Oxnard) was arrested for attempted residential burglary and possession of burglary tools. Hernandez is being held in the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Investigators believe that Hernandez may be responsible for several other night time residential burglaries in the Oxnard area that have occurred in the last few months. Anyone with any information about this investigation or any other burglary is asked to contact Detective Luis Mancha at (805) 385-7667.

The Oxnard Police Department reminds the community that in addition to locking all doors and windows when residents leave their home, residents should also lock all doors and windows when residents are home sleeping.

On 3-26-10 officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a shooting in the 1200 block of West Birch Street. Upon arrival officers discovered that a parked vehicle was struck by gunfire. No victims were located at the scene. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black vehicle. On Friday, March 26, 2010 at 9:40 p.m., Senior Officer Steven Funk was on patrol traveling southbound on Oxnard Blvd. at Spur Dr. when he observed a Toyota Camry stopped at the side of the road. This vehicle was on fire with flames coming from inside the engine compartment. Senior Officer Funk saw a subject, later identified as William Page, inside the vehicle sitting in the driver’s seat but making no attempt to get out. The victim was conscious but unresponsive to the instructions of the officer. Senior Officer Funk approached the car which now had smoke and flames beginning to enter the passenger compartment. Senior Officer Funk opened the driver’s door and dragged the victim to safety.

The Oxnard Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire. The vehicle had significant fire damage.

The victim was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation. Senior Officer Funk was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The actions of the officer likely prevented serious injury or death of the victim.

On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:58 P.M., Oxnard police received a call about a found duffle bag in the 1400 block of Windshore Way. When officers arrived, the bag was found to be full of beer cans, wine and liquor bottles.

A short time later, officers located two unescorted male juveniles on bicycles in the same area. An investigation determined the two 16-year-olds had broken into boats docked in the 4000 block of Harbor Island Lane and stole bottles and cans of alcohol from each of 11 boats.

Both juveniles were arrested without incident and transported to the Oxnard Police Department for booking. Both were released to their parents and face 11 counts of burglary each.

DETAILS:

On March 28, 2010, at approximately 1334 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with EMS personnel responded to 4901 S. “F” Street after receiving a call of a child that had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found that two children, a 3-year old male and an 11-year old male, had been struck by a vehicle driven by Estella Cruz. Both victims were transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where the 3-year old succumbed to his injuries. The 11-year old was treated for a broken arm and was later released.

An investigation revealed that the driver of the van, Ms. Cruz, was pulling the vehicle onto the lawn to wash it. While driving onto the lawn, she inadvertently pressed the gas pedal causing the vehicle to lunge forward striking both children who were standing in the yard.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, however, the driver was found to be unlicensed.

An investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

On 3-28-10 at 9:57 hours, officers responded to a call of a shooting at the in the 1900 block of Sanford St. Upon their arrival they contacted several witnesses that said the victim had been transported by private vehicle to St John’s Regional Medical Center. Assisting officers responded to the hospital and contacted the victim. The victim was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the face.

The victim said he was near his residence when a vehicle drove up and passenger exited the car. The passenger challenged the victim and then pulled out a handgun and fired once at the victim. The victim was then driven to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
