The Oxnard Police Department and Oxnard Code Compliance Department conducted a special joint operation in response to complaints of illegal gambling at Del Sol Park in the La Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard.

Several males and females were observed playing cards, conducting monetary transactions and drinking alcohol in the park. Four adult males, all Oxnard residents, were arrested for the misdemeanor gambling violation and transported to the Oxnard Police Department for further questioning. One adult male, also an Oxnard resident, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two others were cited for the consumption of alcohol in the park which carries a minimum $100 fine.

On 9-25-10, Oxnard Police officers contacted the victim of a home invasion robbery who had come to the Oxnard Police Department. The male victim said that on 9-24-10 at approximately 2030-2100 hours he was inside of his residence watching TV when he heard a knock on the door. When he opened the door three subjects who he did not know forced him back into his apartment and forced him to lie on the floor. One suspect was holding a shotgun. The three suspects assaulted the victim causing him to lose consciousness. When the victim awoke, his apartment had been ransacked with several pieces of property missing. The victim’s vehicle was also taken from the carport area of the apartment complex.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department canvassed the apartment complex and the surrounding neighborhood for witnesses.

On 9-27-2010 at approximately 2130 hours, Oxnard Police Officers received a report of a home invasion robbery that had just occurred in the area of 400 block of West Yucca St. The victim told the officers that he was asleep in his room, when the two suspects entered his residence and began assaulting him. The suspects took several items from the residence and then fled the area.

An investigation is continuing. The victim and witnesses names are not being released at this time due to a concern of retaliation.

Yesterday afternoon, as Oxnard police officers surrounded an apartment building in search of a wanted subject, a man jumped from a second floor apartment, fracturing his leg. The man was not wanted.

On October 5, 2010 at 2:45 p.m., Oxnard police received a call of a possible wanted subject inside an apartment in the 300 block of W. Vineyard Ave. The reporting party also advised the wanted subject was armed with a handgun.

Officers surrounded the apartment building and were preparing to make contact at the address where the wanted subject was reported to be hiding when a male jumped from a second floor apartment window to a concrete patio. The male lay motionless on the ground. Assuming the subject was injured in the fall, officers eventually evacuated the man to awaiting Fire and EMS personnel. He was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where the man was treated for a fractured ankle.

The man was not wanted; why he jumped remains unclear. The reported wanted subject was never located.

On 10-2-10, at approximately 9:35 PM, officers responded to a call in the 1600-block of 8th Place, City of Port Hueneme regarding a stabbing victim. Upon arrival, officers located a 17 year-old Oxnard resident with a stab wound. The victim was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

The victim told officers he was walking in the 4000-block of South J Street when he was confronted by 2 Hispanic males. The suspects demanded the victim’s property when one of the suspects stabbed the victim. The victim fled to a nearby residence and contacted the police for assistance.

An investigation is on going.

On 09-23-2010 at 10:44 AM, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Cabrillo way in the City of Oxnard; reference a possible residential burglary in progress. A citizen reported that two males approximately seventeen years of age jumped the side fence of a residence into the rear yard. When officers arrived on scene a perimeter was set around the residence. A male juvenile exited the front door of the residence with bags containing stolen property and was taken into custody. The second suspect fled out the rear door of the residence and was taken into custody a short time later, in the rear yard of a residence in the 2600 block of Ruby Dr. Both suspects were booked into Juvenile Hall for residential burglary.

As a precautionary measure, during the search for the second suspect, Oxnard High School was locked down for approximately twenty minutes. No students or faculty were in any danger.

The identity of the suspects is being withheld due to their age.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages citizens to keep a watchful eye and report suspicious activity to the police.

On 10-2-10 at about 5:50 a.m., officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress to an automobile parked in the 1700 block of Joanne Way. When officers arrived, they found that a 17-year old male juvenile from Oxnard was being detained by several residents after the juvenile was seen jumping out of a back yard where he had attempted to hide until he was discovered by the family’s large watchdog prompting him to leave his hiding place. A second suspect, an Hispanic male in his 20’s (no further description), had fled the area prior to officers’ arrival in an older blue Honda 4-door and is still being sought.

The subsequent investigation determined that one parked vehicle had been entered and property removed and two other vehicles nearby had entry attempted. The juvenile was found to be in possession of property stolen for the vehicle that had been entered. He was lodged into Juvenile Hall for grand theft, attempted auto burglary, and possession of stolen property – all felony charges.

On 9/04/10 at 0044 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the 4900 block of Petit Drive reference a stabbing victim. When officers arrived they located a victim that suffered four stab wounds and other injuries as a result of the suspects hitting him with bats and poles. The victim was transported to VCMC where he was treated for his injuries and later released. A 17 year old female, who was walking with the victim, was also assaulted and sustained several contusions to her arms and ribs.

During the course of the investigation, the Graffiti Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified several suspects. On 9/28/10 and 9/30/10, the Oxnard Police Department served search warrants at seven locations throughout the City of Oxnard in connection with this investigation. Two adults, Jose Chavez (3/27/92) and Hector Gutierrez (12/28/91), and two male juveniles were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon for the violent assault of the two victims.

Graffiti Investigators, from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, conducted a two month investigation regarding an increase in graffiti vandalism by a particular graffiti vandal. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Noe Melendez (6/23/91). On 9/23/10 at approximately 1330 hours, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department contacted our investigators and informed them that they had arrested Melendez for additional graffiti vandalism charges.

Oxnard Police Department Graffiti Investigators responded to the Camarillo Police Department and interviewed Melendez. Based on Melendez’ statements to investigators he was arrested for fifteen counts of felony graffiti vandalism and forty seven counts of misdemeanor graffiti vandalism committed in the City of Oxnard. Melendez was booked into the Ventura County Jail.

The City of Oxnard spends over a million dollars a year to clean up graffiti in the city. We encourage the community to continue to report graffiti vandalism, by calling the police.

On 9-29-10, at 2114 hours, Oxnard Police Officers were sent to the 2000 block of Almanor Street to recover a stolen vehicle. Upon the Officers’ arrival they observed Munden standing next to the victim’s vehicle. When Munden observed the officers approaching, he fled into a nearby residence located on Almanor Street. The homeowner was outside at the time and told officers that he did not know the subject who had just entered his home. Officers searched the home, located Munden hiding in a bedroom closet, and arrested him without further incident. Munden was found in possession of the key belonging to the stolen vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Munden was in possession of stolen property from two recent residential burglaries that occurred in Oxnard.

Munden was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and trespassing.

The Oxnard Police Department wants to remind residents to lock and secure their vehicles and make sure that valuables are not visible. When you are away from your home, lock and secure all doors and windows, keep photo records and record serial numbers of valuables, so that stolen property can be identified.
