DETAILS:

On 7-13-10 at 6:00 PM, officers responded to the area of Vineyard and Oxnard Blvd in regards to an assault victim. Upon officers arrival they contacted the victim that was suffering from a cut to his hand. He told officers that he was exiting his work in the 3100 block of North Ventura Rd when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect told the victim that his car was broken down nearby and he needed a ride. The victim took the suspect to the area of Vineyard and Oxnard Blvd.

At that point the suspect brandished a knife and demanded money from the victim. A struggle ensued at which time the victim exited his car and ran away. The suspect then fled in the victim’s vehicle which is still outstanding. If anyone has information about this incident they are asked to call Det. DETAILS:

The 7th annual Strawberry Fields 5K and Triathlon will be taking place this weekend at Oxnard State Beach Park. The event begins on Saturday, July 17th, with a 5K run that starts at 9:00 A.M. On Sunday, July 18th, the triathlon will start at 7:30 A.M. and is expected to have over 1,000 participants.

Personnel from the Oxnard Police Department will be handling traffic control along on the run and bicycle courses during both of these events. The priority right of way will be giving to the runners and bicyclists as these events are highly competitive.

Runners during both events will be running along Mandalay Beach Road, Sunset Lane, and Ocean Drive. During the triathlon, the bicycle riders will be traveling on Harbor Boulevard, Gonzales Road, Victoria Avenue, and Channel Islands Boulevard. Traffic control personnel will be positioned at all of the intersections along the run and bike courses during both events.

On Sunday, the northbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard will be closed at Costa De Oro at approximately 7:00 A.M. during the triathlon and are expected to reopen at approximately 10:30 A.M. or as soon as possible. This closure will provide added safety for the bicyclists and reduce the amount of traffic congestion surrounding Oxnard State Beach Park. The southbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard will remain open during the triathlon but drivers shall expect long delays near Oxnard State Beach Park as the bicyclists will be entering and exiting the park. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes including Victoria Avenue to avoid these road closures and delays.

INCIDENT:	Man Arrested for Grand Theft from Vehicle

DETAILS:

At 10:46 a.m. this morning, Oxnard police received an emergency call of a fight in progress. The reporting party told Oxnard police and fire dispatchers that a burglary suspect was fighting with the apparent victim in the 1900 block of El Cajon Court. Officers were sent to the location with lights and siren.

Upon arrival, officers locate two men in a front yard on El Cajon Court. The victim, whose name is being withheld by police, had subdued the suspect after he had stolen nearly a thousand dollars of property from his parked pick-up truck.

The victim told Oxnard police he was in the shower when he heard his doorbell ring. A short time later, he observed the suspect removing property from his unlocked pick-up truck in the driveway. The suspect confronted the victim in the front yard. A short struggle ensued. The suspect was quickly subdued by the victim—a gentleman with extensive experience in the martial arts.

Hernandez reportedly lost consciousness during the altercation with the victim. After being medically cleared at Ventura County Medical Center, he was booked into the Ventura County Jail for grand theft, possession of burglar tools (altered vehicle keys), and violation of probation (prior property crimes). His bail was set at $20,000.

An investigation is continuing.

Two crime prevention tips related to this story:

(1) DOOR-TO-DOOR VENDORS. Residents are urged to keep an eye out for people going door-to-door and to report any such persons to the police. A common ploy of thieves is to ring doorbells to see if anyone is home. With no answer, burglary or thefts typically follow. Reporting so-called “door-to-door solicitors” is also recommended as thieves will always have a cover story to offer if someone answers the door.

(2) HELP PREVENT VEHICLE CRIMES! Like our crime prevention sign below says: Keep your car doors locked and secure valuables. Most vehicle crimes occur because cars are unsecured and/or valuable property is left in view.

DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR THE OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS FOR SERVICE INVOLVING THE THEFT OF MONEY FROM COIN OPERATED LAUNDRY MACHINES. THE MAJORITY OF THE REPORTED CASES WERE RECEIVED FROM APARTMENT COMPLEX’S THAT OFFER LAUNDRY ROOM FACILITIES.

THE MAJORITY OF THE THEFT’S OCCURRED AT NIGHT AND LITTLE TO NO EVIDENCE HAS BEEN RECOVERED FROM THESE THEFTS. INVESTIGATORS HAVE SEVERAL POSSIBLE SUSPECT LEADS, BUT ARE STILL SEEKING THE PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY ALL THOSE INVOLVED.

INVESTIGATORS FROM THE OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE REQUESTING THAT THE OWNERS OR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR COIN OPERATED LAUNDRY MACHINES TAKE EXTRA MEASURES TO BETTER SECURE THEIR FACILITIES. INVESTIGATORS SUGGEST THAT MONEY FROM THE MACHINES BE REMOVED DAILY, LAUNDRY ROOMS SHOULD BE LOCKED AND ACCESS BE PROVIDED TO TENANTS ONLY, SET UP SURVEILLANCE CAMERA’S AND TO CONSIDER INSTALLING NEW TECHNOLOGIES SUCH AS CASHLESS SYSTEMS THAT USE WHAT IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS A PREPAID CARD.

DETAILS:

On the above date and time the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Oxnard Police Department regarding a man with a gun banging on doors at the above location. Several Patrol officers and officers from the Special Enforcement Unit were dispatched code three (lights and sirens) to the location.

Upon arrival officers observed the above suspect armed with a handgun at the location. He was non compliant with officer’s commands, and barricaded himself inside a vehicle. Additional officers responded to the location where containment was set and evacuations were conducted.

Crisis Intervention Team officers attempted to talk the suspect out of the vehicle for approximately two hours until the Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrived. The incident was handed over to the Sheriff’s Department shortly after, and all Oxnard Police Department officers cleared the scene.

At approximately 2300 hours the Sheriff’s Department notified the Oxnard Police Department that the suspect was taken into custody. A loaded handgun was found inside the vehicle.

All further inquiries should be directed towards the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department where an investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

On 7-11-10 at approximately 0305 hours officers were dispatched reference a subject with a knife in the 200 block of East Elm Street in Oxnard. When officers arrived they observed two subjects in a nearby school, one of which fled on foot. The second subject was found to be the victim of a robbery.

The victim was robbed of property at knifepoint then ordered into a nearby school by the suspect. The suspect was not apprehended at that time but was later identified by the officer and the victim as Oscar Borjon.

Officers were dispatched back to the 200 block of East Elm at approximately 1830 hours on 7-11-10. Officers contacted Borjon and he was taken into custody. Borjon was found to have ties to a local Oxnard Street Gang. Borjon was booked into Ventura County Jail and his bail is set at $50,000.

On July 11, 2010 at about 0335 hours, a white Honda Accord, driven by Maria Rodriguez, was rear-ended by a beige Pontiac Grand Am near the intersection of Sanford Street and Beaumont Ave. The driver of the Grand Am fled the collision scene in her car. Rodriguez and her passenger, Madrigal, found the Grand Am near the intersection of Vanetta Street and Beaumont. The driver of the car was passed out behind the wheel.

Rodriguez and Madrigal waken the driver who puts the Grand Am into drive in an attempt to flee. The Grand Am is driven northbound on Beaumont to eastbound Curran Street to southbound Reeder Avenue. Over a distance of about 3/10ths of a mile, the Grand Am collided with nine parked cars. In the 4600 block of Reeder the driver fled from the vehicle.

Oxnard police are called and locate the driver, Alejandra K. Flores Ayala, hiding behind a dumpster in a nearby yard. She is taken into custody without incident. Ayala suffered facial injuries in the crash and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical for treatment. She was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for one count each of: felony driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, felony hit and run, under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia; and nine counts of misdemeanor hit and run. Her bail was set at $50,000.

Rodriguez and Madrigal were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with complaints of pain to their backs and necks.

DETAILS:

On 7-10-2010 at approximately 0600 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a robbery that occurred in the area of Edgewood and M St. in the city of Oxnard. The victim told the officers that he was parked and seated in his vehicle with some friends, when the two suspects approached and demanded money from the victim. One of the suspects later identified as suspect Lopez was armed with a knife. The victim handed over his money, and the suspects fled the area.

While officers were checking the area, they stopped a car for a vehicle code violation that contained four subjects. Two of the subjects in the vehicle matched the description of the suspects in the robbery, so an in-field line up was conducted. The two suspects were identified as the suspects who committed the robbery and were subsequently arrested. A loaded handgun was located in the vehicle next to Suspect Morales, who was subsequently charged with gun possession and possession of an unregistered firearm. Both suspects associate with a known Oxnard gang.

An investigation is continuing. The victim and witnesses names are not being released at this time due to a concern of gang retaliation.

On the above date and time officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a robbery at a business with a shot fired. Upon officers arrival they contacted the business owner. He said that he was in the business when the armed gunman entered. The gunman demanded money. Before the victim could open the cash register, the suspect fired a shot into a rear storage area of the business. The business owner was not injured during the incident. There were no other customers in the store during the incident.

After obtaining the cash the suspect fled the business on foot and was last seen East on Iris from Saviers Rd. Officers searched the area with negative results. DETAILS: 

On 7-6-10 at approximately 1130 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a fight involving a knife, in the Wal-Mart Parking Lot located at 2001 N. Rose Avenue. The suspect was seen leaving the scene in a white vehicle. Officers located this vehicle in the area. The suspect was contacted and found to have a stab wound to her forearm. The victim was contacted by investigators at St. John’s Hospital and was found to have several stab wounds to her right arm and several other abrasions.

The suspect Annabel Rivas (51 year old Oxnard resident) was identified as the suspect by the victim and witnesses. Rivas was treated for her injuries and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Rivas was booked at Ventura County Jail and her bail is set at $20,000.
