DETAILS: 
On 9/18/11 at approximately 0103 hours, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to 3120 Saviers Road (McDonald’s) in regards to several shots being fired. When officers arrived they observed two subjects fighting in the bushes next to the McDonald’s drive thru. One of the subjects, Salvador Hernandez, was armed with a firearm. Officers were able to disarm Hernandez and take him into custody. During the investigation, it was discovered that Hernandez had fired several shots at the victim at close range. One of the bullets went through the victim’s shirt, but the victim was uninjured.
 
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but it doesn’t appear to be gang related. Investigators are attempting to locate additional witnesses who fled the scene prior to officers arriving. DETAILS:
The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Saturday, September 18, 2011, from 6:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. and arrested one (1) driver for DUI as a result of the heightened DUI prevention and enforcement effort.  The checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Oxnard blvd @ Second Street. 
   
Officers screened 1154 motorists who passed through the checkpoint location and conducted two (2) DUI investigations with drivers who had been drinking alcohol. One (1) driver was stopped after making an illegal turn, in order to avoid the checkpoint, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.  The driver had a blood alcohol level of over a .20. This driver was arrested and booked into county jail and his vehicle was towed.
 
Citations were issued to 39 drivers for various drivers’ license violations at the checkpoint.  Seventeen drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license. Five vehicles were towed from the checkpoint. 
 
The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several more DUI enforcement operations this year.  These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer.  We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911.  These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

(Oxnard, CA) This morning at about 6:15, Oxnard PD officers received a call of a street robbery that occurred in the 2000 block of Lantana Street. A 17-year-old male was robbed at knifepoint as he walked down the street. The suspects physically held the victim while removing personal property from the victim’s pockets. One suspect was armed with a metal pipe and the other with a knife. Just before fleeing, the suspect armed with the pipe struck the victim on the head, causing a minor injury. Both suspects fled on foot.
 
The suspects are two Hispanic males between 15 and 18 years of age, about 5-11, 160 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. Both had mustaches, thin builds, and medium complexions.

(Oxnard, CA) On April 6, 2012 at about 10 p.m. Oxnard police officers responded to the Walmart store located at 2001 N. Rose Avenue regarding an attempted robbery that had just occurred. The suspect was a Hispanic male, 25-26, wearing a black beanie, black or blue sweatshirt with white print on the left side, a plaid Dickies-style button-up shirt, and gray pants or jeans. He spoke English and Spanish and appeared to be ill – witnesses reported that the suspect coughed repeatedly. He approached a clerk at the customer service desk inside the business and demanded money and mentioned having a weapon, but no weapon was seen.
 
The suspect was not successful in getting cash from the clerk and fled the area on foot toward Gonzales Road. Officers checked the area for the suspect but were not able to locate him. No one was hurt during the attempted robbery.

DETAILS:
On 09/08/11, at approximately 1540 hours, officers were dispatched to a call of a possible shooting that just occurred in the 300 block of Rosa St. in Oxnard. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate any victim. Officers interviewed several witnesses that reported there was a confrontation involving two groups, during which one of the involved parties possibly fired a weapon at the opposing group. Officers were informed that the involved parties were seen fleeing in various directions. Witnesses advised that one of suspects was armed with an unknown type of firearm and possibly fled into a residence in the 200 block of Rosa St. After an exhaustive preliminary investigation and a tactical response, officers were unable to locate a victim, suspect, or crime scene. The event lasted approximately an hour and a half.

(Oxnard, CA) Today at about 10:30 a.m. Oxnard PD officers received a call of a traffic collision involving a bicycle and an SUV at Saviers Road south of Fir Avenue. It was determined that a grey Chevrolet Tahoe struck a bicyclist in the northbound lanes of Saviers Road. The bicyclist sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. Rosalina Mendoza, 33, of Oxnard, the driver of the Tahoe, was not injured as a result of the collision. There was one other adult and three juveniles – ages two, six, and eight, in the Tahoe and they were not injured. The bicyclist, a 12-year-old Oxnard resident, was transported to Los Robles hospital for treatment. His injuries are considered life threatening.
 
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Tahoe was traveling northbound on Saviers Road. For unknown reasons, the bicyclist drove across the northbound lanes, westbound, into the path of the Tahoe; the Tahoe then broadsided the bicyclist. At this time, it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.

In support of the 2010 Summer/Labor Day Holiday DUI Mobilization crackdown on drinking drivers, the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted two simultaneous sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints on Thursday September 1, 2011, from 6:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M.    
 
The checkpoints were conducted in the southbound lanes of Rose Ave @ Tiesa Drive and in the southbound lanes of Saviers Rd @ Bryce Canyon Ave. At 10:00 P.M., one of the checkpoints was moved to the southbound lanes of Oxnard Blvd @ Citrus Grove Ln. 
 
Officers screened 1,887 motorists who passed through the checkpoints and conducted 2 DUI investigations.  There was one DUI arrest made as the driver was found to have alcohol above the legal limit of .08.     
 
Citations were issued to 48 drivers for various drivers’ license violations at the checkpoints. 30 drivers were issued citations for driving without valid driver’s licenses and two drivers were cited for driving with on suspended or revoked driver’s licenses.  Ten vehicles were towed from the checkpoint.
 
The Oxnard Police Department will conduct several more DUI enforcement operations this year.  These DUI operations are set up in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer.  We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911.  These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

(Oxnard, CA) Today at about 7:40 p.m. Oxnard PD received a call of car that hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Santa Lucia and Rose Avenues. Five Oxnard residents saw the collision from a nearby vehicle. Two of the occupants immediately exited the car and rendered aid to the 10-year-old victim. The pair of rescuers pulled him out of traffic lanes to safety.
 
While tending to the injured bicyclist, the witnesses watched as the suspect vehicle, a gray Ford F-250 pick-up truck, sped away. The remaining three occupants of the witness vehicle followed the suspect while reporting the description and direction of the truck.
 
The witnesses’ maintained contact with the dispatcher at Oxnard PD as the suspect driver zigzagged his way through southeast Oxnard along Hueneme Road and Rice Avenue. Oxnard PD officers intercepted the suspect vehicle at Channel Islands Boulevard and DuPont Street. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
 
The bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with moderate injuries. It was determined that he was crossing the street on his bicycle while the light was green when he was hit.
 
The suspect is identified as Raul Rivera, 54, of Oxnard. Rivera was booked into the Ventura County Jail on charges of felony hit and run, and driving without a license.
 
Without the assistance of these five witnesses, the victim may have sustained additional injuries from passing traffic at the collision scene and the suspect could have escaped apprehension.

  How to Report a Drunk Driver
 

1. Call 911 and tell them you wish to report a suspected drunk driver.  **You do not have to give your name.
2. Give a complete description of the vehicle, such as make, model, color and license plate number.
3. Give the exact location of the vehicle, including the name of the road, cross streets and the direction they’re traveling.
4. Describe the manner in which the vehicle is being driven.
5. Do not try to stop the car or detain the driver.  Leave that to a law enforcement officer.

(Oxnard, CA) This morning at about 3:30 Oxnard Police officers were patrolling in the area of Masthead and Via Marina Avenue when they interrupted three suspects breaking into a car. The three men fled and officers chased them on foot. After about three hours of searching each residential yard in the area, the suspects were located and arrested.
 
Daniel Gonzales, 25, was arrested for auto burglary, parole violation and various narcotics related offenses. Leonal Rodarte, 19, was arrested for auto burglary and receiving stolen property. Diego Quintero, 18, was arrested for conspiracy to commit auto burglary. All three are Oxnard residents.
