DETAILS:
On 09-24-12 at approximately 1715 hours Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of Evangeline Place. The suspect was described as a black male who was seen running through the neighborhood. As officers arrived in the area, there were reports from citizens that a subject matching that description was attempting entry into a second residence in the area. The suspect confronted the resident and took the phone away, preventing the resident from calling the police. The suspect fled the residence as officers were searching the area. Officers chased the suspect through several backyards in the neighborhood. Officers apprehended suspect Mack in the 1600 block of Patricia Street.    
 
During the investigation it was found that the suspect, who was identified as Christopher Mack, had made entry into two residences while evading police. During the course of those entries Mack threatened, battered and prevented witnesses from calling police. Mack was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail on several charges including witness intimidation, criminal threats, burglary and also a previous criminal threats charge for which he was wanted out of the City Of Oxnard.

On 9-22-12 at 2200 hours, Oxnard police officers and Oxnard Fire Department personnel responded to the 3800 Block of Saviers Road reference a reported single vehicle collision into a structure. Both the vehicle and structure were reported to be on fire.
 
Officers and firefighters learned a stolen vehicle had been parked in the West alley of the 3800 Block of Saviers Road and set on fire. At some point an electrical box attached to a nearby building caught fire ultimately causing a charged power line to fall to the ground. Officers and firefighters checked for victims and persons with injuries with negative results. Originally, evacuations were reported, but this was not the case. Damage to the structure is estimated to be $20,000

DETAILS: On 9-21-12 at 1759 hours, Oxnard police officers responded to the 700 block of Ivywood Drive reference a stabbing. The victim had been in an altercation with an unidentified male in the backyard of a residence. The victim was pepper-sprayed and stabbed by two other unidentified male subjects. All suspects fled on foot prior to police arrival.
 
The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

DETAILS:
On 9-20-12, at about 2156 hours, an Oxnard police officer was conducting an investigative traffic stop in the 700 block of Arcturas Avenue when he heard an explosion nearby. This officer and others responded to storage units in the area and located several units with damage. Oxnard Fire Department personnel were requested responding to the location.
 
A small number of people in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution while fire personnel put a small fire out and ensured there were no safety issues. During the Oxnard Fire Department operations and police investigation, a substantial legal marijuana cultivation system was located. Oxnard Code Compliance personnel responded to investigate suspected code violations in other units.
 
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Several persons sustained very minor fire related injuries. None were hospitalized. No arrests were made.

DETAILS:
On September 20, 2012, at about 7:41 p.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to the 500 block of South K Street after receiving a call of an injury traffic collision. Once on scene, officers and EMS personnel found a 12 year old male (name withheld) lying in the roadway. Witnesses advised that the juvenile had fallen or jumped from a silver Honda Pilot. The male was transported to Ventura County Medical Center with serious injuries.

 
Preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda Pilot, driven by Angel Rosette Jr., was traveling northbound in the 500 block of K Street at a slow speed. The 12-year old male juvenile was seated in the rear set of the Honda Pilot. For unknown reasons, the juvenile began to exit the vehicle through the right rear window. The juvenile subsequently fell out of the window. At this time it is undetermined if the juvenile jumped from the moving vehicle or fell out.
 
The juvenile is listed in serious but stable condition.

On 09/17/12 at approximately 1027 hours Oxnard police officers responded to the 1900 block of Dunsmuir Street reference a family disturbance. Officers learned the victim and his cousin, Daniel Gonzales, were involved in an argument when the stabbing occurred. Gonzales left the residence prior to officers’ arrival.
 
The victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center with injuries described as “non-life threatening.”

On September 15th, 2012, officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers license checkpoint.
 
The Checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Victoria Ave south of Gonzales Road.
 
Officers screened 1345 motorists who passed through the checkpoint and conducted one DUI investigation of a driver who had been drinking alcohol. No drivers were arrested for DUI. 
 
At the checkpoint, citations were issued to 12 drivers for various drivers’ license violations.  Eight drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and four drivers were cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license. Nine vehicles were towed from the checkpoint.  One driver entered the checkpoint and then turned across the center median failing to proceed through the checkpoint. The driver made a turn on Gonzales Road and crashed into an occupied stopped vehicle. The female driver and two female passengers were all minors. The driver was cited for driving without a valid driver’s license and released to her parents. The two female passengers were released to their parents.  There were no injuries.
 
The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year.  These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer.  We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911.  These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, September 15th at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 03:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.  

 

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

 

All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. “Over the course of the past year, DUI collisions have claimed 1 life and resulted in 182 wrecks injuring 95 of our friends and neighbors in Oxnard,” said Senior Officer Jamie Brown

 

This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies and officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing.  A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effect it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired and bring about more awareness, encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.  

 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.

 

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On 09/11/2012 at approximately 1858 hours, patrol officers attempted to contact Angel Ramirez reference an outstanding parole warrant. Ramirez led officers on a 3 minute vehicle pursuit throughout the City of Oxnard.
 
Ramirez was ultimately apprehended in the area of Wooley Road and J Street. Ramirez is currently in custody at the Ventura County Jail for Felony Evading of a Police Officer and two felony warrants.

On Monday, September 10, 2012 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the TJ Maxx Store located at 271 West Esplanade Drive in Oxnard regarding a person using a concealed videotaping device on his shoe to secretly record under the female victim’s clothing. 
 
The female told officers that she had been inside TJ Maxx when a Black male adult approached her.  She noticed that he had an electronic videotaping device concealed on his shoe and was recording under her dress.  The store’s surveillance cameras captured the suspect on video.  He was later indentified and arrested.
