Yesterday afternoon, as Oxnard police officers surrounded an apartment building in search of a wanted subject, a man jumped from a second floor apartment, fracturing his leg. The man was not wanted.

On October 5, 2010 at 2:45 p.m., Oxnard police received a call of a possible wanted subject inside an apartment in the 300 block of W. Vineyard Ave. The reporting party also advised the wanted subject was armed with a handgun.

Officers surrounded the apartment building and were preparing to make contact at the address where the wanted subject was reported to be hiding when a male jumped from a second floor apartment window to a concrete patio. The male lay motionless on the ground. Assuming the subject was injured in the fall, officers eventually evacuated the man to awaiting Fire and EMS personnel. He was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where the man was treated for a fractured ankle.

The man was not wanted; why he jumped remains unclear. The reported wanted subject was never located.

DETAILS:

On 12/13/2010, at approximately 3:30 PM, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department were serving an arrest warrant at a home in the 3300 block of Clinton Street, Oxnard. Adair Dzul, the wanted subject, fled from the residence toward an alley behind the home. An Officer was standing in the alley when he observed Dzul open the rear gate in an attempt to escape. When Dzul saw the officer, he fled back into the residence leaving the rear gate open. As the officer attempted to follow Dzul, but not yet making entry into the rear yard of the residence, he was confronted by two pit-bull dogs. The officer was still in the alley when the dogs quickly advanced at him in a very aggressive manner. The officer retreated, but the dogs continued to charge at him. The officer removed his service weapon and fired two rounds, striking each dog once in an attempt to stop their aggressive attack. One of the dogs was deceased at the scene. The other dog was taken by Oxnard Animal Safety Officers for medical treatment. Dzul surrendered to officers and was booked into the Ventura County Jail for the arrest warrant.

On May 27, 2011, at about 2030 hours, officers responded to a call of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Maulhardt Dr. and Latigo Av. A Nissan SUV occupied by five family members was struck by a Ford Mustang that failed to stop for a stop sign at a high rate of speed.

Traffic investigators were told that the red Mustang had been racing another vehicle, a white vehicle, seconds prior to the collision and that the white vehicle had fled prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

Traffic officers subsequently contacted Anthon Chevalier, 33 years old of Oxnard. Mr. Chevalier was later arrested for suspicion of DUI, hit and run driving, and suspicion of participating in a street race. A search warrant was served at Chevalier’s residence on the morning of May 28, 2011, and the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was located and impounded for further investigation.
Torrey Austin, The driver of the red Mustang, remains in the hospital recovering from injuries he sustained in the collision. Charges are pending.

The medical status on the Hernandez family members have each improved. The father, Andrew Hernandez, remains in ICU at VCMC under observation and is stable. The 6-year old family is expected to be transferred back to VCMC for further treatment.

DETAILS:
Oxnard police officers responded to a shooting that occurred at Circle Drive at Channel Islands Boulevard.
 
Preliminary information was received that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle when the suspect confronted him. The victim attempted to flee when the shooting occurred.
 
The victim was rushed to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
 
It is unclear what the relationship was between the victim and the suspect. Police officers/detectives are still investigating the incident.

(Oxnard, CA) The Oxnard Police Department will conduct a multi-location sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. The checkpoint will be held within the city of Oxnard and is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
 
The Oxnard Police Department is committed to improving traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes to make our roadways and community safer. We will continue to conduct DUI checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, and DUI warrant operations this year.     
 How to Report a Drunk Driver

  • Call 911 and tell the dispatcher you wish to report a suspected drunk driver.  **You do not have to give your name.**

  • Give a complete description of the vehicle, such as make, model, color and license plate number.
  • Give the exact location of the vehicle, including the name of the road, cross streets and the direction they’re traveling.
  • Describe the manner in which the vehicle is being driven.
  • Do not try to stop the car or detain the driver; leave that to a law enforcement officer.

    • As a reminder, the fines, fees and attorney costs associated with a first time DUI conviction in Ventura County can exceed $10,000.  Driver’s license suspension and an increase in vehicle insurance premiums are also potential consequences.

On November 16, 2011 at about 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection and Sexual Assault Unit arrested Port Hueneme resident Raymond Aguilar Hernandez Jr., (DOB 6/18/1964), for violation of California Penal Code
Section 288.3(a), child luring and enticing. Hernandez is an employee of Oxnard Union High School District as a campus supervisor. Campus supervisors are part-time, non-teacher employees of the district who monitor student safety in areas outside of classrooms on high school campuses. 
 
The investigation began on November 10 when several students reported to school officials that they received verbal communication and text messages of a sexual nature from Hernandez.  School administrators immediately notified the Oxnard Police Department and a criminal investigation began. 
 
Hernandez was also employed as a night custodian with the Oxnard Elementary School District at Haydock Junior High School. At this point in the investigation, we do not believe any students at the junior high school were victimized by Hernandez.
 
Hernandez posted bail and is scheduled for arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court on December 2, 2011.

On November 24, 2011 at about midnight, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Farragut Ct. in regards to several shots being fired in the area. When they arrived they contacted the victim who was uninjured. The victim told officers that he was standing outside of his residence when Antonio Garcia, a 43 year old Oxnard resident, approached him. A confrontation occurred between Garcia and the victim. During the confrontation, Garcia’s 15 year old son arrived and tried to diffuse the situation. During the confrontation Garcia pulled out a gun and shot at the victim several times. The victim fled into his residence and waited for police to arrive. No one was injured in the shooting.
 
During the investigation, officers developed information as to where Garcia might be. The Oxnard Police Department’s SWAT Team responded and with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, checked a residence in the 1900 block of Kepler Drive. Garcia was not located at that residence. A search warrant was written and served at the residence and numerous items of evidentiary value were seized. Because this is an active investigation, detectives are not releasing information on the items seized. 
 
A short time later, Garcia’s attorney contacted the Oxnard Police Department and arranged for Garcia to turn himself in. Garcia was arrested at the Oxnard Police Department and booked into the Ventura County Jail for attempted murder.

On Thursday, December 15, 2011 starting at 8:30 a.m. twenty students from twenty Oxnard elementary schools will participate in Shop With A Cop — a Target store-based event that pairs Oxnard police officers with pre-selected youth in the community to purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their families. Each child will be paired with an officer from the Oxnard Police Department to go on a $100 holiday shopping spree. In addition to the shopping spree, there will be sweet treats, a coloring station, face painting, gift wrapping, the Oxnard PD DRAGG car, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus for the participating children. 
 
The Oxnard PD has teamed up with Target for this Shop With A Cop event because we believe that helping local families in need and building relationships with local youth will have a positive impact on community safety. This is the first ever Target Shop With A Cop event to take place in Ventura County. Shop With A Cop is made possible through the generosity of Target, the Oxnard Peace Officers’ Association and other private donors and volunteers.

On December 21, 2011, at about 9:40 p.m., officers from the Oxnard PD attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was thought to be a wanted person. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, occupied by a driver and passenger, in the area of Gonzales Road and Almanor Street, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit began.   
 
When the driver reached the intersection of Gonzales Road and Indiana Drive, he crossed into opposing lanes and continued westbound on the eastbound lanes of Gonzales Road. The driver collided into a vehicle at the intersection of Gonzales Road and Entrada Drive. The two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
 
After the collision, both driver and passenger fled the scene of the collision. The driver and passenger were chased on foot by officers and arrested in the area of Pacifica High School.  The driver was arrested for leaving the scene of an injury collision, vehicle evading, resisting and delaying officer duties and violation of a court order/gang injunction. The passenger was arrested for resisting and delaying officer duties and violation of a court order/gang injunction.

UPDATE
On 12/28/2011 at about 2 p.m. a witness contacted police and said that he saw the suspect board a bus in the area of Esplanade Drive. The suspect was contacted on the same bus in the area of the St. John’s Hospital parking lot at Gonzales Road and Rose Avenue.
 
The suspect was identified as Macario Ramirez and was arrested for the stabbing of Cesar Garcia.

On 12/26/2011 at about 4 p.m. officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to the La Gloria Market regarding two subjects seen arguing and one who was stabbed with a knife.  During the disturbance the victim possibly struck the suspect on the forehead with a belt and buckle. 
 
The victim was transported to VCMC with a serious stab wound. He is currently in stable condition. The suspect was seen walking away north bound through the center of the parking lot and was last seen at the south east corner of Fourth Street and Oxnard Blvd.
 
It is unknown why the men were fighting or if the suspect is known to the victim.
