DETAILS:
A suspicious device was found in the alley at 1041 N. A Street. The item located was found to be a grenade that was in a plastic bag. Approximately 15 people were evacuated for safety concerns. No one was injured during the evacuation.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded to assist with the investigation. The grenade was found to be inert. The Bomb Squad took possession of the grenade and later destroyed it.

DETAILS:

At 0557 hours, officers responded to the 3800 Block of Saviers Road regarding a stolen vehicle. Officers learned a mother had left a black 2003 Ford Mustang 2-door, 6PRN729, running while she went to go get a co-worker from inside a nearby apartment. The mother’s four-year old daughter was left in the unlocked vehicle. Seconds later, the mother “heard tires squealing.” When she went outside, her daughter was about 150 yards down the street and walking back. The child had not been harmed. The Ford Mustang was gone.

Officers are looking for the stolen vehicle and a “young male” with a heavy build. The charges are stolen vehicle (10851 CVC) and kidnap (207 PC).

The mother was cited for child endangerment (273(a)(b) PC).

The Oxnard Police Department emphasizes children should never be left unattended in a motor vehicle. And, about 25% of vehicles stolen in Oxnard have keys left in them. Vehicles should be locked and all keys accounted for.

An investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

On 4/14/14 at approximately 1744 hours, Oxnard police officers responded to a call of a stabbing victim in the 1800 block of Pericles Place. Police and EMS arrived and located the victim who had been stabbed multiple times. The victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for medical treatment, where he was listed in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the two suspects asked for the victim by name, and a struggle ensued leaving the victim with multiple stab wounds. The suspects fled in a small compact car.

On 4/14/14 at approximately 2220 hours, Oxnard police officers responded to 1400 South Oxnard Boulevard reference a stabbing. When officers arrived they located two males that had stab wounds. The victims were identified as 23 year old Jorge Manuel Magana and 24 year old Albert Waldren. Waldren and Magana were transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center. Waldren was listed in serious but stable condition, while Magana was listed in critical condition and was set to undergo emergency surgery.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are currently investigating this case. There is no clear indication as to how or why the stabbing occurred.

On 4-18-14 at 0751 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of stabbing victim at the 1500 block of Kipling Court. Officers arrived and found the victim, Ramos, who had suffered from three minor stab wounds. Ramos was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for his non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned that the suspects may have been an acquaintance of Ramos. However, no arrest in relation to the stabbing has been made. Two vehicles associated with the suspects were located and impounded by police.

On 4/25/14 at approximately 2308 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Frank Avenue reference a disturbance. When officers arrived they learned that a male identified as Ramiro Vargas had been stabbed. Vargas was transported to Saint John’s Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers learned that an unknown number of males confronted Vargas at his residence. The confrontation turned physical and a fight ensued. At some point during the fight, the victim was stabbed. Officers and detectives are investigating the incident. The reason for the altercation is still undetermined.

On 04/27/14 at approximately 1304 hours, officers were dispatched to a possible shooting victim in the 5300 block of Cypress Road. When they arrived they located a male subject inside of a parked vehicle. The victim had been shot at least one time and died as a result of his injuries.

The subject was a 78 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. This is Oxnard’s sixth homicide of the year. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

On 05/11/2014 at 6:56 AM Oxnard Police officers responded to the 1200 block of North Oxnard Boulevard to investigate the report of suspicious subjects gathering. Officers contacted several subjects, including suspected gang members. Officers searched the area and located a loaded Tech-9 semi-automatic pistol, narcotics, and narcotics paraphernalia. One adult and three juveniles were arrested for narcotics violations and warrants.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages residents to be partners in public safety as part of the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative. This is an excellent example of a witness who saw suspicious activity, called the police, and provided the appropriate information.

DETAILS:
On May 16, 2014, at 12:33 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a stabbing that had occurred at the 2100 block of East Channel Islands Blvd. Officers learned that the victim, an 18 year old Oxnard resident, had been approached by several Hispanic male suspects who began challenging him as he sat in his vehicle. In an effort to avoid being assaulted by the suspects the victim attempted to drive out of the area and inadvertently drove his vehicle into one of the local businesses causing structural damage. The victim attempted to flee from the suspects on foot; however, the suspects pursued him and ultimately stabbed him several times. The victim is currently at Ventura County Medical Center and is in stable condition.

The investigation is on-going as to the outstanding suspects and motive of the stabbing.
