DETAILS:

On 4-8-14, at 0728 hours, officers responded to the 1900 Block of Patterson Road re: a robbery. A male, 35 years, bald or shaved head, walked into a 7-11 Convenience Store, brandished a knife, and demanded money from the clerk. When a second clerk came out of a storeroom, the suspect fled on foot. The clerks immediately called 911.

Officers were on the scene within minutes and located the suspect, identified as Omar Mojica, 28 years, Port Hueneme resident, taking him into custody without incident.

There were no injuries and no property was taken.

DETAILS: On 4/18/14, at about 2015 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit were working enhanced uniform enforcement in the 1300 block of Gonzales Road, in response to the recent violent gang activity in the area. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle observed circling the area. The occupants of the vehicle, Michael Silerio and Patrick Kenton, were contacted and subsequently found to be in possession of a .45 cal handgun, a 9mm handgun, and a large amount of narcotics. Both Silerio and Kenton are previously convicted felons and prohibited from possessing a firearm. Silerio and Kenton were arrested for several narcotics and firearms related charges.

At 0205 hours on 4/19/14, Oxnard Police Officers responded reference a domestic battery that had just occurred in the 1400 block of Lyonia Lane. Officers learned that the parties involved were now at a residence in the 1400 block of Halesia Lane. Officers heard a female crying inside, but the occupants refused to answer the front door. Officers forced the front door open to check the well-being of the female. The suspect, Jesus Pena, was located inside the residence. Officers determined that an altercation had occurred and the victim was battered. Pena was arrested for domestic violence and violating his Post Release Offender status.

Pena is currently in the Post Release Offender Program, created by Assembly Bill 109 – the 2011 Public Safety Realignment – which was effective October 1, 2011. This program mandates that individuals sentenced to non-violent, non-serious (irrespective of priors) or non-sex offenses will serve their sentences in county jails instead of state prison. The public should be aware that release under AB 109 is based on the offender’s most recent committing offense. Prior convictions arenot considered.

DETAILS:

On 5/6/14, at approximately 1805 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a robbery involving a firearm at the Colonia Gym, 195 N. Marquita Avenue.

The victims told officers that he was confronted by two male suspects, both in their early 20’s and wearing dark clothing, as the victim sat in the area. One of the suspects, later identified as Delacruz, displayed a black handgun, and both suspects removed the victim’s property, which included a cellphone, wallet, and headphones. The suspects fled the area.

As officers were investigating, they observed the suspects in the area, along with two other females. Officers ultimately detained one of the male subjects, and one female subject. Delacruz was identified as the suspect who committed the robbery and was arrested. Other charges included disobeying a court order (violating the gang injunction), and resisting/delaying officers in the course of their duties. The female was found to be in possession of the victim’s property and was arrested for being in possession of stolen property. The second male suspect was not located. The handgun was not located. No one was injured during the robbery.

The investigation is on-going.

DETAILS: The 31^st annual California Strawberry Festival will be held this weekend, May 17th and 18th, at College Park. Over the past several years, the festival has experienced crowds totaling 70,000 over the two day event.

In an attempt to accommodate the anticipated heavy attendance at this year’s Strawberry Festival, the Oxnard Police Traffic Unit will have officers and additional traffic control personnel assigned to several intersections surrounding the festival site. There will be road closures and detours to allow for safe and efficient vehicular and pedestrian travel to and from the festival.

The recommended method of transportation to the Strawberry Festival is via the free shuttle bus service. Shuttle buses will be picking up festival goers at the following locations between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Pleasant Valley Road between Butler Road and Bard Road
Pleasant Valley Road, between Butler Road and Bard Road will be affected by heavy traffic from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both festival days.

Bard Road between Pleasant Valley Road and Rose Avenue
Bard Road, between Pleasant Valley Road and Rose Avenue, will be affected by heavy traffic from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both festival days.

Gary Drive
Gary Drive, between Boston Way and Rose Avenue, will be closed to all traffic from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on both festival days.

DETAILS:
At 1652 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were provided information from a witness that a male subject, later identified as Anthony Martinez, 24 years of Oxnard, was in the public restroom at Marina West Park and was in possession of a handgun. The witness advised that the Martinez was not threatening anyone in the park. When officers arrived, Martinez ran and hid inside of a residence in the 2200 block of Miramar Walk. Officers learned that Martinez did not live at the residence which was occupied by a male homeowner and his juvenile daughter. Officers surrounded the house and took Martinez into custody as he attempted to flee out the back door. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate a handgun.

Martinez was arrested for trespassing, violation of probation, and for obstructing or delaying a peace officer in the performance of his/her duties. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail.
Martinez is currently in the Post Release Offender Program, created by Assembly Bill 109 – the 2011 Public Safety Realignment – which was effective October 1, 2011. This program mandates that individuals sentenced to non-violent, non-serious (irrespective of priors) or non-sex offenses will serve their sentences in county jails instead of state prison. At 0355 hours, officers responded to the 1600 Block of North “C” Street regarding residents calling for a subject ringing doorbells to homes and refusing to leave. Earlier calls had been received regarding a suspicious subject casing for burlgary in the same area.

Officers located Reyes Cardona, a 32-year old Oxnard resident, at the front door of a residence near Carriage Square and “C” Street. Cardona was wearing all black clothing, was carrying two flashlights, and had a screwdriver in his possession. Cardona is a post release offender (PRO) and was arrested for a PRO “flash incarceration.”

Cardona is currently in the Post Release Offender Program, created by Assembly Bill 109 – the 2011 Public Safety Realignment – which was effective 10-1-11. On the above date and time, Oxnard Police officers responded to Toppers Pizza at 2100 Saviers Road regarding an attempt robbery that had just occurred. The suspect entered the business, waited in line for a short time, and then passed a note to the cashier. The manager was alerted because of the suspect’s appearance and also observed a gun in the suspect’s waistband. The manager activated the robbery alarm, alerted his employees to the danger, and the suspect fled before getting any cash. The suspect was last seen in a small white compact vehicle southbound on San Marino from Iris.

DETAILS: On 5/16/14 at approximately 1230 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to 2195 East Channel Island Boulevard reference a stabbing victim. Officers located the victim, Samuel Lopez, with several stab wounds to his left arm and upper torso. Samuel was transported via ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center. He is expected to survive his wounds.

Investigators from the Oxnard police department’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspects involved in the attack. The suspects were identified as Oxnard residents Donald Reyes, Tare Rincon, and a 17 year old juvenile.

As of 6/4/14, all three suspects are in police custody. They are charged with attempted murder, with the special allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
