DETAILS:

On 7/22/13, at approximately 1925 hours, officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Haaz Way reference a suspicious subject looking into the windows of the residence. Responding officers learned that the subject had entered the residence, and also noticed signs of forced entry. These, and additional officers established a perimeter around the residence.

After several announcements and attempts to make contact with anyone inside the residence, officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s SWAT team, along with an Oxnard Police K-9, began to search the residence. The suspect attempted to flee from a bedroom window and was taken into police custody without further incident.

The suspect, Thomas Rivera, was arrested for the burglary. Rivera was out on bail for an unrelated residential burglary.

DETAILS:

At 1654 hours, officers responded to 5^th Street at Del Norte Boulevard re: an injury collision. Officers found one vehicle had collided near 5^th Street and Del Norte Boulevard. The male driver had fled. V1 came to rest in close proximity of the railroad tracks. Union Pacific was notified and flairs were positioned by officers two miles in either direction of the collision on the tracks.

The Union Pacific Main Line which is used by MetroLink and Amtrak was not available for 40 to 50 minutes. There was damage to the railroad crossing arm but no damage to the tracks.

DETAILS:
Samjoan Robert Marquez, an 18 year old Oxnard resident, is wanted by Oxnard police for two shootings that occurred in the City of Oxnard between the months of March and May of 2013. Marquez has several felony warrants for his arrest for these shootings, and is suspected to be armed and dangerous.

The Oxnard Police Department, along with other Ventura County Law Enforcement Agencies, is attempting to determine the whereabouts of Marquez. DETAILS:

Between the hours of approximately 1545 and 1615, the Oxnard Police Department responded to calls of three separate armed robberies in the north end area of Oxnard, specifically the 500 Block of Carnation, Orchard Park, and Princeton Avenue. In two of the three incidents the victims were robbed of their property. In each instance, the suspects were described as three black males in their teens.

Shortly after the call of the third robbery, officers observed three males matching the descriptions of the suspects. These subjects were ultimately detained. One of the subjects, a 17 year old male, was identified as one of the suspects involved in the robberies. He was booked into the Juvenile Hall for robbery.

The property taken from the two robberies, in addition to an airsoft gun, was located nearby.

DETAILS: On October 26, 2013, at approximately 0330 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the area of Eighth Street and B Street after a person reported a Hispanic male discharging a firearm into the air. Officers arrived on scene and located a subject in the area that matched the description given by witnesses. Officers attempted to make contact with the subject but he fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was detained and found to be in possession a loaded firearm. The subject was identified as a 19-year-old Oxnard resident named Sergio Castro Jr. Castro has also been served with the Colonia Chiques Gang Injunction. Castro was subsequently arrested for several weapons violations as well as a violation of the Colonia Chiques Gang Injunction.

On 11-2-13, at 2346 hours, officers responded to a call of an audible alarm in the 1000 Block of South Ventura Road. Officers found the rear door to the business had been forced open. As officers approached a male subject fled from the business.

Officers gave chase on foot as the suspect continued across Wooley Road and to the 1700 / 1800 Block of Valencia Place. The suspect was located hiding in a trash can to the rear of a residence and taken into custody with the assistance of a police K9. The 15-year old suspect and an officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

It appears no property was taken. Officers are looking for a second suspect.

On 11/14/13 at approximately 1830 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Colonia Road and McKinley Avenue regarding a call of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene they searched the area, but did not locate a shooting victim.

Approximately 15 minutes after the first 911 call, a shooting victim arrived by private vehicle at Saint John’s Hospital. The victim, 21-year old Ivan Moreno, was immediately transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center and was listed in “guarded” condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and there is no further information at this time.

The investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:
On 1/17/14 at approximately 2205 hours, an Oxnard Police Department Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Ventura Road and Fifth Street. The vehicle attempted to evade the officer and sped off at a high rate of speed after a loaded .25 caliber handgun was thrown from the vehicle. A vehicle pursuit ensued which lasted approximately 2 minutes.

During the pursuit, the driver of the vehicle, Lewis Avalos, began driving erratically, which included failing to stop at red lights, and speeding, all in an attempt to evade the officer.

The pursuit was discontinued in the area of Fifth Street and Harbor Blvd when speeds reached 95 mph entering a residential neighborhood. The vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away and both Avalos and the passenger, George Martinez were taken into custody without incident.

Avalos was arrested for felony evading, violation of probation, and violation of a gang injunction. Martinez was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant. Both suspects were booked into Ventura County Jail.

Avalos and Martinez are both currently in the Post Release Offender Program, created by Assembly Bill 109 – the 2011 Public Safety Realignment – which was effective October 1, 2011. This program mandates that individuals sentenced to non-violent, non-serious (irrespective of priors) or non-sex offenses will serve their sentences in county jails instead of state prison. The public should be aware that release under AB 109 is based on the offender’s most recent committing offense. Prior convictions arenot considered.

On 1/20/14 at about 1806 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for vehicle code violations (speed) in the area of Roosevelt and Second Streets. The vehicle, a Blue ’01 Ford Explorer, failed to yield for the police vehicle and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle ran the stop sign at Roosevelt and Third Street, and collided with an uninvolved vehicle that was travelling west on Third Street. There were no injuries as a result of this collision; only damage to the vehicles.

The suspect vehicle continued east on Third Street. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto McKinley Avenue, and in doing so struck a police unit, and ultimately collided with a block wall at the intersection of Third Street and McKinley Avenue. The suspect suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The suspect, Alfredo Sanchez, was taken into custody for evading and driving under the influence. He was taken to St. John’s later to be transported to the Ventura County Main Jail.

DETAILS:
On 2/20/14, at approximately 1515 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a residential burglary in progress in the 1300 block of W. Kamala St. Officers arrived on scene and found that the suspect, Miguel Santillan, was being detained by a resident and one of the burglary victims.

An investigation revealed that Santillan entered a residence through a doggy door. He was confronted by the resident and fled into another house across the street. Once inside the second residence, he was again detained and held until officers arrived.

Santillan was found to be in possession of property that had been taken from the residences. He was arrested for suspicion of residential burglary and booked into the Ventura County Jail. The property was returned to the owners.
