On 7-10-14, at 2016 hours, an officer stopped Ivan Moreno, 21 years, Oxnard resident, for a traffic violation as Moreno rode his bicycle on First Street near Roosevelt Avenue. Once stopped Moreno’s hand movements suggested he may have been concealing a weapon. The officer conducted a pat down and located a loaded handgun. Moreno was arrested and charged with a number of weapon-related offenses including possessing a concealed loaded firearm.
In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, the Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crime Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of this initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
