DETAILS:

On Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at about 1255 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with EMS personnel responded to an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Gonzales Road west of Oxnard Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found that a black, Honda Accord, driven by Angeles, 83 years old of Camarillo had struck a pedestrian (Vargas, 32 years old of Oxnard).

Pedestrian Vargas sustained head injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Angeles was not directly injured as a result of the collision but was transported as a precaution.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda, driven by Angeles, was traveling eastbound on Gonzales Road towards Oxnard Boulevard. Several witnesses indicated that Pedestrian Vargas had run out into traffic on Gonzales Road west of Oxnard Boulevard between several vehicles and was struck by the Honda.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision. Additional analysis results are pending.

DETAILS:

On 8-16-2010 at approximately 0730 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of a subject down in the alley of 560 S. A St., in the City of Oxnard. Officers and paramedics arrived and found the victim suffering from critical injuries. The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Investigators are attempting to locate friends or family for the victim, with negative results. If anyone knows the victim or his family, they are urged to contact Detective Steve Funk immediately.

On 09-13-10 at approximately 1330 hours, officers responded to a vehicle burglary in progress at the intersection of First Street and Rose Avenue.

The suspect, Julio Cesar Garcia, was observed inside of the vehicle by arriving officers and taken into custody. Property taken from the vehicle was recovered.

Garcia, when arrested, was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. Garcia was booked for burglary and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Oxnard Police Department wants to remind residents to secure their vehicles and not leave valuables in plain view. Residents are also urged to record vital information from their valuables, such as serial numbers and model numbers.

On 11-2-10 officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to two robberies at local businesses that occurred approximately 10 minutes apart. The first occurred at the Payless Shoe Source located at 2051 N. Rose Avenue. One suspect approached the clerk, simulated a weapon, and demanded cash. The other suspect was seen in the area. The victim handed the suspects cash and they fled on foot.

The second robbery occurred approximately 10 minutes later at the Thrifty Gas Station located at 1501 W. Gonzales Road. A single suspect entered the business, approached the clerk, and demanded cash from the register. The victim handed the suspect cash and then fled in an older model reddish colored SUV.

Both robberies have similar suspect descriptions, however it is unknown if they are related at this time. The Oxnard Police Department wants to advise homeowners and contractors that there has been an increase in vacant residential burglaries throughout the city of Oxnard. In the last month, there have been ten vacant homes burglarized. Suspects are taking appliances, tools, and in some instances removing installed plumbing pipes from the walls. If you own or manage a property that is currently vacant, take measures to secure tools, and other valuables, if possible remove valuables.

We recommend documenting valuables by recording serial numbers, mark and/or engrave your property and take photographs.

Early Saturday evening, Oxnard police responded to a call of a stabbing just occurred in the alley of the 100 block of N. Grant Ave. The victim told police he was approached by three men while walking in the alley. The suspects asked the victim if he had any money. When the victim answered “no,” the suspects began rifling through the victim’s pockets. A friend of the victim (listed as Victim #2) came to his aid. One suspect (listed above as Suspect #1) stabbed the second victim in the torso. The trio of suspects fled on foot from the alley.

The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injury.

On 12-31-10 at approximately 1912 hours, Oxnard Police Officers were dispatched to a stabbing victim in the 600 block of Hill Street. Officers arrived and contacted a subject who suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. The victim was unconscious and not talking when the officers arrived. The victim was treated by medical personnel at the scene and transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. The victim was stabilized and is recovering. At this time there is no description of the suspects involved in the incident. On 1-3-11 at approximately 0140 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a robbery at the Burger King Restaurant located at 2001 N. Oxnard Boulevard. Officers arrived and contacted the victims who had been robbed by two subjects. One of the victims fled the restaurant during the robbery to call the police.

The suspects entered the business in possession of weapons. The suspects demanded money from the victim. The victim handed the money from the registers to the suspects and they fled the business on foot.

On January 28th, at approx. 5:26 P.M., Oxnard Police Officers were called to the area of Victoria Ave. and Wooley Road reference a robbery with a knife. Upon their arrival, they found that the juvenile victim had been confronted by two suspects while he was seated at the bus bench. The two suspects approached the victim and demanded his cell phone. One suspect was holding a knife as the other suspect grabbed the victim’s cell phone from his hands. Both suspects fled eastbound on Wooley Road towards Offshore Street.

Several witnesses who observed the robbery started chasing the suspects. One suspect was arrested a short distance away without incident. The second suspect, who was later identified, was arrested at his residence several hours later.

The victim did not sustain any injuries during the robbery.

Investigation is ongoing.

On April 13, 2011 at approximately 2100 hours, officers were dispatched to Mariposa and Camelia Street in regards to two subjects spray painting in the area. When officers arrived, the two subjects fled and officers observed one of the subjects discard a loaded firearm and a spray can. Both subjects were taken into custody without further incident. The subjects were identified as Justin DeSantiago and Jonathan Griggs.

The Oxnard Police Department wants to remind residents of the dangers involved with graffiti vandalism. It is not a simple crime of writing on the wall. Graffiti vandals will often arm themselves with weapons similar to gang members. Do not attempt to contact a suspect that is tagging. Be a good witness and call 911. Provide a detailed description of the suspect and any vehicles involved to assist officers in locating them.

The City of Oxnard spends over a million dollars a years to clean graffiti vandalism. The City of Oxnard has teamed up in the fight against graffiti vandalism with the Ventura County Probation Agency and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Oxnard’s zero tolerance approach to dealing with graffiti vandals stems from the costly frustration of trying to keep our community free of illegal graffiti and to encourage our young people to find a productive use of their time. The City of Oxnard has a multifaceted campaign to stop illegal graffiti. Our three-pronged approach addresses prevention, intervention and enforcement methods to discourage and eliminate graffiti vandalism.
