INCIDENT:	Second Suspect Arrested in 2009 Homicide

DETAILS:
 Between 2006 and 2012, the City of Oxnard had five homicides that investigators believe were committed by members of the Lemonwood Chiques gang. In August of 2012, the Oxnard Police Department formed a special task force to solve these homicides. As a result of the task force’s extensive investigation, the department arrested 18 year old Cristian Santos for the October 12, 2011 homicide of Sergio Arroyo. Arroyo was subsequently convicted for this homicide.
 
On January 17, 2009 at approximately 8 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a fight with shots fired in the 2700 block of El Dorado Ave. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located two victims who had sustained stab wounds. A third victim showed up at the hospital an hour after the incident with a minor stab wound.  The 28 year old homicide victim, later identified as Alfredo Vargas, underwent emergency surgery and died at approximately 2:30 am on Sunday.
 
The task force has continued to work on the Alfredo Vargas homicide as well as other open homicides involving Lemonwood Chiques gang members. On March 29, 2013, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed charges on Jonathan Gallegos in connection with his role in this homicide.  These charges include murder and committing the murder for the benefit of a criminal street gang, the Lemonwood Chiques.
 
There continues to be several outstanding suspects in the Alfredo Vargas homicide as well as the other homicides involving the Lemonwood Chiques gang members. Arrests in the near future for these homicides are highly likely. These investigations are the result of countless investigative hours and a cooperative effort involving multiple local law enforcement agencies.  The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office all played key roles in these successful investigations.

DETAILS:
 On 5/4/13 at approximately 0730 hours, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of South “D” Street to check the well-being of a two people in a vehicle. When officers arrived they located a female in her fifties and a male in late thirties. Both subjects had suffered a gunshot wound and were unresponsive. Both subjects were pronounced dead by emergency responders.
 
The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are following up on several leads and motives at this time. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

INCIDENT:	Home Invasion Assault with a firearm Shooting into an inhabited dwelling

DETAILS:

On 7/13/13 at about 3:00 AM, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at a residence in the 3300 block of Jackson Street. When Officers arrived they contacted several occupants inside the residence. One of the occupants had apparently been struck in the head by some type of object and required medical attention for a minor laceration he sustained. This victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.
 
During the investigation, Officers learned that two males had entered the home through the front door and as they attempted to enter one of the bedrooms the two males were confronted by one of the female victim’s. One of the two male suspects was armed with a handgun and brandished it at the female. The male victim attempted to intervene and he was struck on the head by an unknown object. The two male suspects fled the residence and as they fled the male victim gave chase. As the two suspects ran out, one of them fired multiple gunshots into the residence striking a bedroom window. Fortunately the occupant of that bedroom was not home at the time.  Nothing was taken during the incident and it is still unclear as to what the suspects’ motive was.

DETAILS:

On September 5, 2013, at about 1930 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the La Hacienda Carniceria located at 657 South Ventura Road. Officers learned an unknown male armed with a handgun entered the business and robbed the store at gunpoint. The unknown male fled the store with an unknown amount of cash. Oxnard Police Department Detectives are currently investigating the crime.
