DETAILS:
On Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at about 1255 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with EMS personnel responded to an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Gonzales Road west of Oxnard Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found that a black, Honda Accord, driven by Angeles, 83 years old of Camarillo had struck a pedestrian (Vargas, 32 years old of Oxnard).
Pedestrian Vargas sustained head injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Angeles was not directly injured as a result of the collision but was transported as a precaution.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda, driven by Angeles, was traveling eastbound on Gonzales Road towards Oxnard Boulevard. Several witnesses indicated that Pedestrian Vargas had run out into traffic on Gonzales Road west of Oxnard Boulevard between several vehicles and was struck by the Honda.
At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision. Additional analysis results are pending.
An investigation is continuing.
