DETAILS:
On July 9, 2013 at approximately 2:50 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department initiated a traffic stop on the 400 block of Ocotlan Way.
During the stop the driver, Juan Ayala, fled on foot and discarded a loaded firearm. Officers gave chase and set up a perimeter.
With the assistance of the Special Enforcement Unit and the helicopter from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Ayala was located and was
taken into custody without incident. The firearm was recovered and found to be stolen.

While searching the vehicle officers found varying quantities of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.

Passengers arrested were Ashley Lopez (under the influence of drugs) and Arthur Chavez (outstanding warrants).

DETAILS:

On 7-12-13, at 2113 hours, officers were dispatched to the 200 Block of East Pleasant Valley Road, re: a missing adult. Officers learned that Osbaldo Ayala Marinez, Jr, a 29-year old Oxnard resident had left his residence at 1600 hours and has not been seen or heard from since. Family members are concerned.

Marinez was last seen wearing a grey shirt, green and white striped shorts, and grey shoes. He was carrying a skateboard. Marinez reportedly frequents parks in South Oxnard and Port Hueneme. He also frequents South Oxnard and Port Hueneme beaches.

DETAILS:

On 7/13/13 at about 3:00 AM, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at a residence in the 3300 block of Jackson Street. When Officers arrived they contacted several occupants inside the residence. One of the occupants had apparently been struck in the head by some type of object and required medical attention for a minor laceration he sustained. This victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.

During the investigation, Officers learned that two males had entered the home through the front door and as they attempted to enter one of the bedrooms the two males were confronted by one of the female victim’s. One of the two male suspects was armed with a handgun and brandished it at the female. The male victim attempted to intervene and he was struck on the head by an unknown object. The two male suspects fled the residence and as they fled the male victim gave chase. As the two suspects ran out, one of them fired multiple gunshots into the residence striking a bedroom window. Fortunately the occupant of that bedroom was not home at the time. Nothing was taken during the incident and it is still unclear as to what the suspects’ motive was.

At 2016 hours, officers responded to St. John’s Regional Medical Center to investigate a stabbing.

Genaro Cortez, a 27-year old Oxnard resident, advised that at 1930 hours he was walking in the alley of the 900 Block of Cooper Road. A male, early 20’s, wearing a white shirt and black pants, walked by him. Suddenly, this subject grabbed the victim from behind. A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed. It is unknown if the suspect also intended to rob the victim.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to his neck and back. Cortez’ wounds are not life-threatening.

On September 5, 2013, at about 1930 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the La Hacienda Carniceria located at 657 South Ventura Road. Officers learned an unknown male armed with a handgun entered the business and robbed the store at gunpoint. The unknown male fled the store with an unknown amount of cash. Oxnard Police Department Detectives are currently investigating the crime.

On 09/06/13 at approximately 2106 hours, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Napoleon Avenue regarding a shooting. When officers arrived they located a male subject who had been shot. Despite emergency responders’ efforts to save the subject, he died as a result of his injuries.

The victim was an 18 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. Investigators are following up on several leads and motives at this time. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

(OXNARD, Calif), Juan Jesus Martinez, 33 of Oxnard has been arrested by Oxnard Police detectives with the Family Protection Unit and charged with felony physical child abuse.

The Oxnard Police Department received information that an 8 year old child had been hurt by her father. The victim told investigators that her father had hurt her and caused her injuries.

Martinez is currently being held at Ventura County Jail. His bail was set at $100,000.

On 11-14-13 at approximately 2200 hours, Oxnard police officers were contacted in the area of Courtland Street and Clara Avenue, reference a robbery with a gun to a pizza delivery man that had just occurred in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar.

The suspects were described as 2 males, 18-20 years old. Both were wearing sweatshirts with the hoods pulled over their heads and covering their faces. One suspect was in possession of a black semi-automatic handgun. Three large pizzas and an order of Buffalo wings were taken. The suspects fled eastbound on Cuesta Del Mar towards Courtland Street.

The Oxnard Police Department District Three Team and Community Affairs Manager received donations of 245 turkeys from local businesses and community members for the neediest of families in our City. Frank Intermediate, Green Valley School, La Escuelita and others, the Oxnard Police Department was once again able to provide families with certificates that they will redeem at this morning for one 12 – 20 lb. turkey.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, December 27, 2013, at an undisclosed location within the City limits between the hours of 8 PM and 3 AM.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and / or drug impairment with officers checking drivers for proper licensing delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.

Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.

From December 13th to today, there have been 163 drivers arrested in Ventura County for driving while impaired during the Avoid the 14 Ventura County winter holiday campaign.

According to the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI Enforcement strategies, while yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Nearly 90 percent of California drivers approve of DUI checkpoints.

Funding for this checkpoint is porovided to the Oxnard Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the NHTSA, reminding everyone to “Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911.
