DETAILS:

On February 8, 2011, at approximately 0718 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded with EMS personnel to the intersection of Fifth Street and C Street after receiving a call of an injury traffic collision involving a Gold Coast Transit bus and a passenger car. Once on scene, officers found that a silver 2006 Buick LeSabre had collided into the rear of a Gold Coast Transit bus driven by Adrian Gutierrez.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the Buick, Cormac, as he was trapped inside. Cormac was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for his injuries. As a result of the crash, Cormac sustained broken bones in both of his legs. There were 26 passengers on the bus and four of them sustained minor injuries. Three of the injured passengers were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Buick LeSabre was traveling eastbound on Fifth Street approaching the intersection of C Street. The bus was also traveling eastbound on Fifth Street and was stopped in the left turn pocket for a red light. For an unknown reason, the Buick failed to stop and collided into the rear of the bus.

It has not been determined whether or not alcohol was involved in this collision.

Oxnard Police Department now offers bicycle registration. Bicycle registration will be available at the front desk of the Oxnard Police Department, free to the public.

To register your bicycle you will need to bring the following information: Owner name, address, city, zip, home phone, school (if applicable), serial number, make, model, type, color, wheel size and frame size. There is no need to bring your bicycle to register it.

This service is being offered in response to excessive bicycle thefts in the city. From November 2009 to January 2011, 85 bicycles have been reported stolen (seven per month) totaling $30,793.00.

The 8th annual Strawberry Fields 5K and Triathlon will be taking place this weekend at Oxnard State Beach Park. The event begins on Saturday, July 16th, with a 5K run that starts at 9:00 A.M. On Sunday, July 17th, the triathlon will start at 7:00 A.M. and is expected to have close to 900 participants.

Personnel from the Oxnard Police Department will be handling traffic control along the run and bicycle courses during both of these events. The priority right of way will be given to the runners and bicyclists as these events are highly competitive.

Runners during both events will be running along Mandalay Beach Road, Sunset Lane and Ocean Drive. During the triathlon, the bicycle riders will be traveling on Harbor Boulevard, Gonzales Road, Fifth Street, Victoria Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard. Traffic control personnel will be positioned at all of the intersections along the run and bike courses during both events.

During the triathlon on Sunday, the northbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard will be closed at Costa De Oro at approximately 6:30 A.M. and are expected to reopen at approximately 10:30 A.M. or as soon as possible. Fifth Street between Harbor Boulevard and Victoria Avenue will also be closed for vehicular traffic. These closures will provide added safety for the bicyclists and reduce the amount of traffic congestion surrounding Oxnard State Beach Park. The southbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard will remain open during the triathlon but drivers shall expect long delays near Oxnard State Beach Park as the bicyclists will be entering and exiting the park. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes including Victoria Avenue and Wooley Road to avoid these road closures and delays.

On December 28, 2011 at about 9:50 p.m., Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Ives Avenue in regards to a shooting that just occurred. When they arrived they contacted the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his upper leg. The victim told officers he was walking to a friend’s residence when a dark colored vehicle pulled up next to him. One of the occupants of the vehicle asked him where he was from, and then yelled out a gang slogan. The suspect fired three shots at the victim, striking him once. The other two rounds went into a nearby residence, but no one inside the residence was injured. The victim was transported to VCMC where he is listed as serious but stable condition.

The suspect vehicle fled the area. The suspect and suspect vehicle are still outstanding.

DETAILS

On December 31, 2011 at about 5:00 p.m., Oxnard Police officers received a call regarding a possible dead body in the 1300 block of West Cedar Street. When they arrived, they located a deceased person inside the garage. Officers detained Hugo Chavez, 31, of Oxnard, who was inside the residence.

Investigators determined that Chavez was responsible for the death of the decedent. Chavez was booked at the Ventura County Jail for murder. No additional information is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

DETAILS
At about 4 p.m., officers received a call of a hit and run in the 200 block of North Grant. When officers responded, they were informed that a vehicle had also been stolen. The stolen vehicle information was provided to patrol officers. Officers in the area of Cooper and Oxnard Boulevard located the stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver refused to yield to the officer. A pursuit was initiated in the Colonia area. The stolen, suspect vehicle subsequently hit two parked vehicles in the 100 block of Hayes Avenue and then came to a stop. The suspect vehicle was occupied by two female juveniles; one of them was the driver. There were no injuries, only a complaint of pain.

The two female juvenile suspects will eventually be booked into juvenile hall.

(Oxnard, CA) The Oxnard Police Department is investigating a series of four residential burglaries that occurred on February 2, 2012 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. In each of these cases, the suspect is believed to have gained entry through an unlocked rear door or window. These cases occurred in the Rio Lindo neighborhood on the following streets: Blanca Place, Stanford Avenue, Hermosa Way and Junto Lane. In one of the cases the resident was at home when the suspect tried to enter the home. Fortunately, the victim scared the suspect away. The loss in these cases includes: electronics, cash, checks, jewelry and DVDs.

Witness reports indicate that the suspect is a Hispanic male in his early twenties who was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a blue baseball cap.

It is very important to lock all your doors and windows when you leave your residence. In addition, please report any suspicious activity to the Oxnard PD. If you see a person who is not familiar to you walking or driving around your neighborhood, get a good physical description of the person and vehicle and call (805) 385-7740. (Oxnard, CA) The Oxnard Police Department is investigating several residential “hot prowl” burglaries that occurred in December 2011 and January and February 2012. A hot prowl burglary is one that occurs when the residents are home. These cases can be particularly dangerous because of the possibility of a violent altercation between the resident(s) and the burglar(s).

In some of the cases, the suspect(s) gained entry through unlocked doors and windows. In other cases, the suspect removes a screen from a window but then realizes that someone is inside and the suspect leaves. These cases have occurred in the following neighborhoods: Rio Lindo, Riverpark, Southwinds, Channel Islands, Cal Gisler, Sierra Linda, Wilson and Cypress Point and typically have occurred between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The suspects are stealing items such as: computers, cell phones, cash, jewelry, personal documents and small electronics. At this time, we do not believe that one suspect or group of suspects is responsible for these cases.

It is very important to lock all your doors and windows when you leave your residence as well as when you are home. It’s also important to document specific information about your belongings such as serial and model numbers. Keeping receipts and taking photographs of your belongings is also desirable in the event that you are a victim of a burglary.

On February 22, 2012, at about 6 p.m., the victim arrived at Saint John’s Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. He had sustained a non-life threatening injury to his leg. Officers responded to the scene and hospital and contacted several witnesses. They said the shooting occurred in the 1900 block of Lantana Street.

The victim said that the suspect opened fire after words were exchanged between the pair. After the shooting the suspect fled west in the alley. Officers do not know the motive for the shooting at this time.

INCIDENT	Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation (Crosswalk Safety)

On February 23, 2012, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard PD conducted a pedestrian safety enforcement operation. The operation was aimed at motorists who failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians walking within marked crosswalks as required by law.

The operation was conducted at the following intersections: Bard Road at Justin Way, Fifth Street at E Street, Saviers Road at Hill Street, and Wooley Road at E Street.

During the operation, a total of 42 vehicles were stopped. Citations were issued to 31 drivers for pedestrian right-of-way violations. An additional 11 citations were issued for various traffic related infractions. One vehicle was towed during the operation.

The Oxnard PD will continue to conduct pedestrian safety enforcement operations of this type throughout the year. These operations are an effort to reduce the number of vehicle versus pedestrian crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that motorists are required by law to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians walking within crosswalks.
