DETAILS:

On 11-9-10 at 2:47 PM officers from the Oxnard Police Department were sent to assist the Oxnard Fire Department with a burn victim. During an investigation it was learned the victim was transient and had fallen asleep while smoking a cigarette next to a building hidden from public view. The blanket covering the victim ignited causing 2nd degree burns to his face and right hand.

An unidentified citizen observed the smoke and quickly distinguished the fire and notified a nearby business to call 911. The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and later air lifted to a trauma burn center in the Los Angles area. The condition of the victim is unknown.

DETAILS:

On 11-10-2010 at approximately 12:09 A.M., Oxnard Police Officers contacted the victim of a carjacking at the corner of El Dorado Ave. and Channel Islands Blvd. The victim stated that he met the suspect at this same corner and she initially asked the victim for a ride to an unknown location in Oxnard. Victim Vasquez drove the suspect to the west alley of El Dorado and San Benito where suspect Garcia physically assaulted him and took his vehicle. Victim Garcia did not require any medical attention.

A stolen report was taken on victim Vasquez’s van and was relayed to officers throughout the county. A Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy observed the van in the area of Wells Rd. and Hwy. 126 in the city of Saticoy. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but suspect Garcia failed to yield and a short pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended in the city of Santa Paula where suspect Garcia pulled over at 10Th Street and Harvard Street. Suspect Garcia was taken into custody without further incident. Oxnard Police Officers took custody of suspect Garcia in Santa Paula and she was returned to Oxnard and charged with carjacking and transported to the Ventura County Jail.

On 12-16-10, at approximately 0500 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to Fifth Street and Rose Avenue for a traffic collision. While investigating the incident, the officers learned that the above listed subjects were victims of a shooting which occurred in the 1300 to 1400 block of South G Street. The vehicle, which was being driven by Magallanes, was transporting victim Hernandez to the hospital when she became involved in the traffic collision. The other passenger, Adrian Mendoza, suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision, as was the 50-year old male driver of the other vehicle. Magallanes was subsequently arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in injury. Hernandez was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his face. The injury is not life threatening.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the shooting was gang related.

An investigation is ongoing.

On Tuesday February 8, 2011 at about 0701 hours officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to an injury traffic collision involving two motor vehicles. The investigation revealed that one of the two vehicles was travelling E/B on Auto Center Drive when the driver lost control and drove across the center median knocking down approximately four (4) trees. The vehicle then continued E/B in the W/B lanes and collided with a second vehicle which was travelling W/B on Auto Center Drive. Both vehicles contained only the driver and no passengers. Both drivers were transported by Ambulance to V.C.M.C. with moderate injuries.

On 8-28-2011, at 5:57 P.M., officers responded to the 400 Block of North Bonita, in the City of Oxnard re: a stabbing victim. During the investigation officers learned that there was possibly a roommate dispute. The victim suffered minor stab wounds to the head and leg. He was transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 50 years old and walks with a limp.

On November 23, 2011 at about 11:30 p.m. detectives from the Oxnard Police Family Protection Unit responded to the Ventura County Medical Center regarding an infant with a head injury. Upon arrival, detectives were notified by staff that the baby needed emergency surgery because of his injuries. The surgery took place at the Ventura County Medical Center and he was later airlifted to Los Angeles Children’s Hospital for further treatment. The baby suffered a large, frontal, brain bleed and bilateral retinal hemorrhaging of his eyes.

On Saturday, November 26, 2011 the baby died as a result of his brain injuries. On Sunday, November 27, 2011 Oxnard Police detectives from the Family Protection Unit arrested the baby’s mother, Josefina Sierra Hernandez, (DOB 7/20/80). Hernandez was arrested for 273ab of the California Penal Code (causing injury to a child under age 8 resulting in death). Hernandez is currently being held at the Ventura County Jail on $500,000 bail.

At about 11:30 p.m., on December 3, 2011, Oxnard police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 200 block of Doris Avenue. On arrival they located a 19-year-old Oxnard man with several gunshot wounds to his lower body. The wounds were found to be non-life threatening. The victim was transported by ambulance to St John’s Hospital where the he was to undergo surgery. His status is unknown at this time.

The investigation revealed that the victim may have been attending a house party in the area. The motive for the shooting is undetermined at this time, however it is not suspected to be gang related.

At 2:45 a.m. Oxnard PD officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 100 block of Fashion Park Place in Oxnard. On arrival, they found a 28-year-old female with multiple stab wounds. She was transported to the hospital where she is in critical condition. The investigation revealed that the assailant was her husband, Abdalla Younan Abdalla, 32, of Oxnard. The suspect apparently fled in his 2002 Black Hyundai Santa Fe, California license plate 5ATB969. It is believed that the suspect fled to Los Angeles County. Officers are actively searching for this vehicle and the suspect.

Abdalla is an Egyptian male, 5’4” 160 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. He wears glasses and had a moustache and a couple of day’s growth of a beard at the time of the attack. Abdalla also has a tattoo of Arabic writing on his upper right arm.

At about 3 p.m. on February 11, 2012, Oxnard Police officers responded to the Comfort Inn located at 1001 East Channel Islands Boulevard regarding a wanted subject by the name of Ronald Lopez.

Officers arrived at the location and tried to make contact with Lopez. Officers had received information that Lopez was armed with a handgun and made threats to use it. While officers were establishing a perimeter of the location, there was a report of a possible shot heard.

Oxnard SWAT officers and the OPD hostage negotiation team responded. Additional assistance was provided by the Ventura Police Department and Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

About two and a half hours later, after a series of verbal exchanges with the subject and cooperation with family members, Lopez exited the motel room and peacefully surrendered to officers without incident. No one was injured during this incident.

A thorough search was conducted of the entire scene and no weapon was located. At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined there was no weapon involved and there were no shots were fired.

Ronald Lopez was arrested for 2800.2(a)VC and 2800.4 VC and a CDC parole hold.

On March 12, 2012, at about 11:49 a.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to Victoria Avenue south of Gonzales Road after receiving a call of a traffic collision involving three vehicles. Once on scene, officers and EMS personnel found that the vehicles, a green BMW sedan, a black SUV and a silver Pontiac sedan had collided in the northbound lanes. The driver of the BMW sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Oxnard resident Robert Ramos, 60, suffered a leg injury and pain to his chest. Oxnard resident Donna Leite, 62, suffered minor cuts and abrasions along with her passengers, four juveniles – ages three, four, and five. All were transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the BMW was traveling southbound on Victoria Avenue. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove across the dirt center median and into the opposing lanes where it collided head-on with the black SUV and the silver sedan.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision.
