INCIDENT:	Serious Injury Traffic Collision

DETAILS: On August 31, 2013, at about 10:29 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a collision involving two vehicles near the intersection of Rose Avenue and Cesar Chavez Drive. Upon arrival, officers found that the two vehicles involved were a white Ford Expedition, driven by Joel Tapia, a 25 year-old resident of Oxnard, and a silver 2004 BMW 325ci, driven by Leonardo Medina, a 23 year-old Oxnard resident.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue and the BMW 325ci was traveling southbound on Rose Avenue. For an unknown reason, the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with the center median of Rose Avenue just north of Cesar Chavez Drive. The Ford lost control and continued traveling over the median where it collided with several trees. During the collision, Driver Tapia was ejected from the Ford Expedition and landed in the roadway near his vehicle.

When the Ford collided with the median, its left front wheel became dislodged and flew into the path of the northbound BMW where it struck its front end causing extensive damage. Driver Medina was uninjured during the collision.

Driver Tapia sustained serious injuries as result of the collision and was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Alcohol is suspected to be involved in this collision.

DETAILS: On 09/25/13 at approximately 2317 hours, officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Alvarado Street regarding a stabbing. When officers arrived they located a male subject who had been stabbed. Despite emergency responders’ efforts to save the subject, he died as a result of his injuries.

The victim was a 24 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. Investigators are following up on several leads and motives at this time. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

DETAILS: The Oxnard Police Department would like to notify residents of two home burglaries in the last two days in the 2400 block of Alvarado Street, and remind city residents to ensure their safety by taking precaution and locking doors and securing windows in the evening hours and when not at home.

We are following leads of a single-male suspect, who forced-entry through the front door while residents were home.

We remind residents to be extra-aware and vigilant. If you see suspicious activity, individuals who are not visiting a neighbor, and do not live in your street or are loitering, please call the Oxnard Police Department at 385-805-7600, or dial 911.

DETAILS: On 10/30/13 at 0810 hours, Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit arrested 19 year old Oxnard resident Jovanny Becerra on 70 counts of graffiti vandalism. Investigators obtained information the previous week that linked Becerra to his tagged moniker. The graffiti vandalism committed by Becerra cost the City of Oxnard an estimated $10,000.00 to clean.

On 11/3/13 at approximately 1800 hours, Oxnard police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Colonia Road reference a shooting victim. The victim, Jesus Muniz, was shot multiple times in the chest. Muniz was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance and is listed in critical condition.

According to witnesses, several gunshots were heard and a silver sedan was seen speeding away from the scene. There is no further information at this time.

The investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:
On 11/21/2013, at approximately 0522 hours, Officers responded to a vehicle burglary in progress in the 3000 block of Taffrail Lane. Upon arrival, officers found a retired Oxnard Police Department Sergeant detaining the suspect with the assistance of the 20 year old victim. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Officers located burglary tools and other evidence to support the crime. The investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:
At 2239 hours, officers responded to Texaco Gas located at 3650 Saviers Road after receiving a call of a robbery to the business. Officers learned that a male subject, approximately 5-10 to 5-10, 170 to180 pounds, wearing a grey ski mask, black shirt with red and yellow logo and green pants, robbed the business.

An employee said that the suspect walked into the business and simulated a handgun. He demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of property. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was last running northbound from the area.

DETAILS:
On 03/7/14 at approximately 0917 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to Starbucks, 241 West Fifth Street, reference a robbery that just occurred. The lone suspect was described as an H/M wearing a khaki color sweater, white sunglasses, and a blue backpack. The suspect entered the business, implied a knife, and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Minutes later, a person matching the suspect description was contacted in the east alley of the 400 block of South Fourth Street. During the investigation a witness positively identified the suspect. The suspect was identified as Arthur Lopez, Oxnard resident. Lopez was arrested for robbery, burglary, and parole violation.
