DETAILS: On January 2, 2013 at about 11:53 AM the Oxnard Police Department received a 911 hangup call from a residence in the 2000 block of Santa Lucia. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that shots were being fired from the same residence. Officers arrived, and heard shots being fired from the residence. Oxnard SWAT officers arrived, and attempted to communicate with the person(s) inside the residence using a loud speaker. At about 2:23 PM an individual came out of the residence, and at 2:26 PM the individual was arrested without incident. He has been identified as 35 year old Gonzalo Camacho. Investigators are currently on scene to determine what charges will be filed.

DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Planned this Weekend

Oxnard, CA – Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday, February 22^nd at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

In 2010, over 10,000 people were killed nationally in motor vehicle traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or higher. In California, this deadly crime led to 791 deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver. “Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 6 lives and resulted in 604 injury crashes harming 355 of our friends and neighbors,” said Senior Officer Jamie Brown.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Oxnard Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies. On February 22, 2013, between the hours of 9:00 P.M. and 3:00 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted two sobriety and drivers license checkpoints.

The first checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Rose Avenue just south of Mountain View Avenue. The second checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Hobson Way south of Seventh Street.

Officers screened 616 motorists who passed through the checkpoints and conducted eight DUI investigations. Of those investigations, six drivers were arrested for DUI. One driver was contacted by a checkpoint officer and was found to have methamphetamine in his possession. He was arrested for being in possession of illegal narcotics.

As a result of the two checkpoints, 21 drivers were cited for various drivers license violations. Seventeen drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license, one driver was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license, and one was cited for having open containers of alcohol in his vehicle. Eight vehicles were towed from the checkpoints.

The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

DETAILS:
(OXNARD, Calif) – On Tuesday February 15, 2013, at about 11:00 p.m., a woman was at a downtown Oxnard nightclub where she met 24 year-old Hugo Alaniz from Oxnard. The victim consumed several alcoholic drinks while at the nightclub before leaving with Alaniz and several of his acquaintances to an after party at a nearby apartment.

The victim passed out at the apartment and Alaniz proceeded to sexually assault the victim while she was unconscious. Witnesses intervened to stop Alaniz from further sexually assaulting the victim.

Alaniz was arrested on Tuesday March 5, 2013 by detectives from the Oxnard Police Department’s Family Protection Unit and charged with rape of an intoxicated person. He is currently being held at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

Police investigators are concerned that Alaniz may have assaulted other victims in the past and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Dale McAlpine at (805) 385-3921.

(OXNARD, Calif) – On Monday March 11, 2013, at about 10:13 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department stopped Daniel Ruiz for a traffic violation. Ruiz was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. When arriving at the police station, Ruiz told officers that he was not feeling well. As a precaution, officers contacted Gold Coast Ambulance who responded. Ruiz told emergency personnel that he had swallowed some methamphetamine. Ruiz was transported to St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard where he was admitted.

On 4-28-13, at 0221 hours, a motorist reported seeing two subjects burglarizing a business in the 200 Block of Colonia Road. Officers responded and found broken glass in front of a mini-market. Officers saw one subject inside the business.

This suspect initially hid and refused to come out. Pepper balls (PAVA powder) were inserted into the business and had nearly immediate effect. The suspect, later identified as Jose Flores Rodriguez, 41 years, Oxnard resident, surrendered to officers without further incident.

Rodriguez was charged with 459 PC. The second subject initially observed by the witness was not located.

An investigation is continuing.

The Windsor North and Sierra Linda neighborhoods on the north end of Oxnard have had a notable increase in activity, such as auto burglaries, residential burglaries, and stolen vehicles.

NEWS UPDATE – Investigators with the Oxnard Police Department, with the public’s help, have found missing 13-year-old Samantha Torres. She was found earlier this evening when a person reported seeing her walking near the CostCo store in Oxnard. Samantha, an eighth grade student at Rio Del Valle Middle School in Oxnard had been reported missing for more than a week. The search for her had been widespread throughout the area with photos and flyers being posted in area shops and on social media sites. The girl was located after a lengthy police investigation and she is now reunited with her family. The Oxnard Police Department and the girl’s family thanks the public in helping to find her.

(OXNARD, Calif) – Oxnard police investigators are searching for a 13-year-old girl reported missing earlier this week. The teen, who has brown eyes, long reddish brown hair and is 5 feet 7 inches tall, was last seen leaving a relative’s apartment at the 2400 block of Alvarado St. in Oxnard.

The girl lives at the Royal Dukes Mobile Estates at 1101 E. Ventura Blvd., Oxnard. Police investigators are searching for her and an alert has been made to Rio Del Valle Middle School where the girl is an 8^th grade student.

On 5/25/13, at approximately 11:30AM, a group of about 250 people marched from the area of Wal-Mart on Rose Avenue to the area of the Monsanto Corporation in the 2700 Block of Camino Del Sol. Once the group arrived at Monsanto, people from the group began to damage the property of Monsanto. The group was given orders to leave the property, and they complied with the order. The group was monitored by officers from the Oxnard Police Department until they ultimately dispersed. No arrests were made.

A similar protest at Monsanto took place back in September of 2012; the protest in 2012 was related to the “Occupy Monsanto” movement. It is unknown if today’s protest was related.

DETAILS: On August 31, 2013, at about 10:29 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a collision involving two vehicles near the intersection of Rose Avenue and Cesar Chavez Drive. Upon arrival, officers found that the two vehicles involved were a white Ford Expedition, driven by Joel Tapia, a 25 year-old resident of Oxnard, and a silver 2004 BMW 325ci, driven by Leonardo Medina, a 23 year-old Oxnard resident.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue and the BMW 325ci was traveling southbound on Rose Avenue. For an unknown reason, the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with the center median of Rose Avenue just north of Cesar Chavez Drive. The Ford lost control and continued traveling over the median where it collided with several trees. During the collision, Driver Tapia was ejected from the Ford Expedition and landed in the roadway near his vehicle.

When the Ford collided with the median, its left front wheel became dislodged and flew into the path of the northbound BMW where it struck its front end causing extensive damage. Driver Medina was uninjured during the collision.

Driver Tapia sustained serious injuries as result of the collision and was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Alcohol is suspected to be involved in this collision.
