DETAILS:
On 8/24/13, at approximately 4:30 AM, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the area of Kipling Place and Terrace Ave reference suspicious subjects possibly casing for burglaries in the area. Officers located three suspects who were in the process of burglarizing a vehicle. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident and were arrested for vehicle burglary and conspiracy. Albert Torres was also found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

Please make sure to lock your vehicles and remove the keys.
Please be certain to secure windows and doors to your homes.

DETAILS:

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 Block of West Date Street regarding a missing person. Luis Gonzalez Martinez, 61 years, Oxnard resident, was last seen by his family members at 1100 hours. Family members indicated Martinez was upset at that time. He has not been seen since.

Officers are searching for Martinez and are asking for the public’s help in locating him.

Martinez was last seen wearing a white Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap, a red, white, and blue American flag bandana, a blue Dodger’s jacket, and dark jeans. Martinez has fresh stitches over one eye. Martinez also uses a black walker.

How can fast cars keep kids off the streets and focused on their future? Nationally, with homicide being the second leading cause for death for youth ages 10 to 24, there is a lot at stake. In Oxnard, California, 30% of the teens are under the age of 18. The youth today are pelted with daily temptations… why not make it something positive? Sergeants Charles Woodruff and Daniel Shrubb of the Oxnard Police Department took these statistics to heart. They started the Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti (DRAGG) youth mentoring program. It is a unique non-profit after school program for young people ages 16 to 18 that has heads turning and has caught the eye and interest of the next generation of automotive consumers. DRAGG’s objective is to provide the next generation with a positive learning environment while introducing them to career opportunities in the automotive industry, driver safety, leadership skills and the value of customer service. Program participants also receive high school credit for program participation.

They began with a car, a 2006 Mustang GT energized with a V-2 Vortech Supercharger, Borla exhaust and a head turning police package compete with lights and siren. With 500 horsepower, it is the magnet that attracts the kids to learn more! For the 16 to 18-age group it is all about speed and flash! DRAGG comes with both. What better way to help the next generation stay focused on their future. This car was featured at the 2011 SEMA car exhibit.

With the assistance of the Ford Motor Company, we are BACK for the 2013 SEMA Show and we have made our concept car a reality! This unique “rally” themed Ford Focus ST Police vehicle is the real deal! DETAILS: On 11/13/13 at approximately 1400 hours, Oxnard police officers were patrolling the 1100 block of North F Street. The officers made contact with several juveniles in Eastwood Park. During the contact, one of the male juveniles was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. The juvenile was arrested for several firearms violations.

DETAILS: On Monday 12/16/13, at 0847 hours, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Robert Avenue regarding an unresponsive male. Officers arrived and found a deceased male subject on the side yard of the residence.

On 12/18/13, an autopsy was performed on David Salazar, a 59 year old Oxnard resident, and his death was ruled a homicide. At this time, investigators don’t know the motive and are attempting to establish what occurred. This is Oxnard’s thirteenth homicide of the year. DETAILS:

On 1/15/14, at about 2318hrs, Oxnard Police Officer Mike Gens was conducting traffic enforcement on Channel Islands Boulevard in Oxnard. He stopped and detained a vehicle for speeding and contacted both occupants. The passenger, Angel Barden, had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and was arrested.

Following the arrest, and exercising Barden’s probation terms allowing the vehicle to be searched, a loaded firearm was found under the passenger seat where Barden had been seated. Barden was searched and about two and a half grams of methamphetamine was found in his pocket.

The rest of the vehicle was searched and about nine ounces of marijuana was found in the trunk, along with packaging and a scale.

Angel Garcia, the driver, was arrested for transportation and possession of marijuana for sale. Barden, the passenger, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a loaded firearm. Both were booked into Ventura County Jail.

INCIDENT:	Fatal Traffic Collision

DETAILS:
On January 25, 2014, at about 4:57 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to intersection of Ventura Road and Ivywood Drive in reference to an injury traffic collision involving a single vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford Expedition, driven by David Jonathan Faalevao, was traveling southbound on Ventura Road and stopped for the red light in the left turn pocket at Ivywood Drive. According to witnesses and for an unknown reason, the vehicle started to slowly drift into the intersection and veer to the left while the traffic signal was still red. The vehicle then suddenly accelerated rapidly southbound on Ventura Road in the northbound lanes. After traveling a few hundred feet, the Expedition collided with a large tree and hedges that line the frontage road of Ventura Road from the northbound lanes. The collision caused the vehicle to flip onto its right side. Faalevao was the only occupant in the Expedition and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Firefighters from the Oxnard Fire Department arrived on scene and extricated Faalevao from the vehicle. Faalevao suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

DETAILS : On 2-20-14, at approximately 1930 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a report of subjects disturbing in the 1900 block of N. “H” Street. Officers contacted Jose Petris, a 32 year-old male, who was seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, a loaded handgun was located inside of the vehicle and in Petris’ immediate possession. Petris, a convicted felon, was placed under arrest for carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, and other related weapons charges. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail.

DETAILS:

On 03/01/2014 at 0700 hours officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to 2^nd and H Streets reference a possible interrupted auto burglary. Several residents had confronted the suspect inside of a vehicle. The suspect got out, attempted to strike one of the witnesses with a bat, and then fled the area.

Officers responded to the area and were directed to the suspect’s location by an alert witness. The suspect, a 16-year-old Port Hueneme resident, was taken into custody without incident. A search of his property revealed property stolen from a previous auto burglary. The suspect was booked at Ventura County Juvenile Hall for vehicle tampering, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of stolen property.

The Oxnard Police Department encourages residents to be partners in public safety as part of the Operation Safer and Stronger initiative. This is an excellent example of a witness who saw suspicious activity, called the police, and provided the appropriate information.

DETAILS:
On March 22, 2014, at about 6:09 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Camino Del Sol and Rice Avenue in reference to an injury traffic collision involving three vehicles.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Nissan Maxima was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue and both a Ford Escort and a Mercedes SUV were driving northbound on Rice Avenue. As all three vehicles approached Camino Del Sol, the Nissan Maxima attempted to turn eastbound onto Camino Del Sol directly in front of the Ford Escort, causing a head on collision. The Mercedes SUV then collided into the Nissan Maxima.

Three occupants from the Ford Escort were transported to local hospitals. Two occupants sustained major injuries and a third occupant died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Nissan Maxima and the Mercedes SUV were not injured.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision. No witnesses to the accident have come forward; if anyone has information about this collision, please contact Senior Officer Maria Peña at (805) 385-7750. The investigation is ongoing.
