Oxnard, CA– Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the city of Oxnard.  DUI checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.
 
Officers will contact drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
 
“Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed18 lives and resulted in 185 injury crashes harming 267 of our friends and neighbors,” said senior officer Jamie Brown.
 
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.
 
“Deaths from drunk and drug-impaired driving are going down in California,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).  “But that still means that hundreds of our friends, family and co-workers are killed each year, along with tens of thousands who are seriously injured. We must all continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies.  If you see a drunk driver – call 9-1-1.”
 
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Oxnard Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver.

On January 25, 2012, at about 11:51 a.m., a male suspect entered the Citibank located in the 2900 block of Saviers Road. The suspect approached the teller window and handed him a note that demanded money and stated he was armed. The teller handed an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect.  The suspect fled the bank in a southern direction. The suspect possibly fled in a dark “box” shaped vehicle.      
 
Oxnard police officers and investigators responded and interviewed several witnesses.  FBI agents also assisted in the investigation. Investigators are currently working several leads.

The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Division conducted two sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints on January 28, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.   
 
The first checkpoint was conducted in the westbound lanes of Channel Islands Blvd at “M” St. The second checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard at Fifth Street.
 
Officers screened 594 motorists who passed through the checkpoints. Officers conducted five DUI investigations that lead to the arrest of two drivers for DUI.  
 
Seventeen drivers were issued citations for various drivers’ license violations. Fivevehicles were towed.  Thirteen drivers were issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and four drivers were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.
 
The Oxnard PD will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year. These DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind you that if you see an impaired driver – dial 911.
 
The checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.

On February 1, 2012, investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit obtained information that Roy Jimenez had committed the bank robbery at Citibank, located at 2900 Saviers Road, on January 25, 2012.
 
On February 2, 2012, at about 11:40 a.m., investigators contacted Jimenez at his residence in the 700 block of west Pleasant Valley Road.  He was arrested and taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail for bank robbery. Because this is still an active investigation, no further details will be released until the conclusion of the investigation.

(Oxnard, CA) On Thursday, April 19, 2012 at about 12:44 p.m., Oxnard PD officers and fire personnel responded to a traffic collision in the 1000 block of Oxnard Boulevard – State Route 1. Upon arrival, officers found that a green sedan, driven by a 17-year-old male, had collided with an electrical transformer located in the parking lot of the Cabo Restaurant at 1041 S. Oxnard Boulevard. The collision caused the high-voltage lines that span across Wooley Road to fall onto the roadway creating a severe electrical hazard for both motorists and pedestrians. The downed power lines also disrupted power to several surrounding businesses and traffic control signals in the immediate area.
 
Southern California Edison officials responded to the scene and are currently working on replacing the downed lines and restoring power to the affected businesses.
 
To facilitate repairs, Wooley Road between “C” Street and Oxnard Boulevard (Five Points) will remain closed in both directions. Edison officials say that the repairs will take several hours and estimate a completion time of 2:00 a.m. on Friday. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
 
The driver of the sedan was not injured in the collision. Investigators are trying to determine why he veered off the road.

 Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on May 25th, at w/b Pleasant Valley Road @ “C” St and s/b Oxnard Blvd @ Eighth St between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. 
 
This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint lowers DUI deaths and injuries.  A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired. This also creates an awareness and encourages everyone to use sober designated drivers.

(Oxnard, CA) On July 13, 2012, at about 10:30 p.m., Oxnard PD officers responded to a shooting victim in the 700 block of South “F” St.  When they arrived they contacted a man who had sustained a gunshot wound. The 41-year-old victim was immediately transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition. The victim is an Oxnard resident.
 
The motive of the shooting is unknown.
