DETAILS:
On 9/26/2015 about 0129 hours three Oxnard Police Officers were doing directed patrol in the Diamond Bar neighborhood due to an increase in gang activity. The officers observed two subjects on the driveway of a home on Merced Place who tried to hide from them as they approached. The officers detained two 17 year old juveniles for further investigation. During the investigation two homemade 12 gauge “Zip Guns” were located on the driveway where the two suspects were seen. Both teens are associated with a criminal street gang and were arrested for unlawful firearm possession. They were later booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for various gun charges.
A “Zip Gun” is defined as a homemade or make shift gun. These types of weapons are extremely dangerous to handle. The guns located this morning by OPD officers were modified to fire a shotgun shell. The Oxnard Police Department is committed to reducing gang related crimes and violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws primarily targeting known or active gang members. Citizens are reminded to contact the Oxnard Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witnesses to a crime. Case# 15-105150
