DETAILS:

At 1924 hours, officers responded to the 1800 Block Ives Avenue re: eight to ten male subjects fighting.

Officers arrived on scene as a number of subjects fled. Officers found that a 21-year old male resident had been stabbed during the fight. Suspects were described as two or more males. At least one of these subjects was in possession of a knife.

The victim was treated at the Ventura County Medical Center. The victim’s injuries were listed as minor to moderate.

An investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

A single-vehicle non-injury collision has resulted in a broken fire hydrant at the intersection of Woolley Road and Rose Avenue in Oxnard. As a result, the intersection has flooded and has caused extensive traffic delays for all directions of traffic. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice, such as Rice Avenue.

DETAILS:

On 7-12-13, at 1600 hours, members of the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force observed Juan Rodriguez, a 27-year old Oxnard resident; in the 3900 block of South “A” Street. Rodriguez was wanted for an outstanding felony possession of narcotics warrant.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department attempted to stop Rodriguez in a vehicle in the area of Channel Islands Boulevard and “N” Street. Rodriguez fled on foot into residential backyards. Officers were able to contain Rodriguez in the 1100 block of Spruce Street.

Reports from residents were received that Rodriguez was possibly in possession of a handgun. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter responded to assist with the search. Rodriguez was later located while hiding in the rear yard of a residence.

Rodriguez was arrested for his outstanding warrant and a misdemeanor charge of resisting/delaying an officer.

DETAILS: On October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Oxnard Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its seventh opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

In an effort to provide additional locations throughout the City of Oxnard, the Oxnard Police Department has joined forces with CVS and Kaiser Permanente. Bring your medications for disposal to the Oxnard Police Department ( 251 South C Street), CVS Pharmacy (551 South Ventura Road), Kaiser Permanente (2200 East Gonzales Road).

Oxnard Police will be on-site at all three locations. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. During the last three years, the Oxnard Police Department has collected over three (3) tons of prescription drugs.

Last April, Americans turned in 371 tons (over 742,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at over 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. In its six previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2.8 million pounds—more than 1,400 tons—of pills.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

DEA is in the process of approving new regulations that implement the Safe and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010, which amends the Controlled Substances Act to allow an “ultimate user” (that is, a patient or pet or their family member or owner) of controlled substance medications to dispose of them by delivering them to entities authorized by the Attorney General to accept them. The Act also allows the Attorney General to authorize long term care facilities to dispose of their residents’ controlled substances in certain instances.

DETAILS: The sixth annual Santa to the Sea Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday morning, December 8^th. The race starts at 8:00 A.M. in front of Santa on Ventura Boulevard and travels through the City of Oxnard where it ends at the Marine Emporium Landing located at 3600 South Harbor Boulevard. Over 3,000 runners will be participating in this year’s race.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department will be handling the traffic control along the race course and motorists should expect significant delays at several intersections in the city. These intersections include:

·         Rice Avenue at Sturgis Road,
·         Rose Avenue at Camino Del Sol,
·         Fifth Street at Hobson Way,
·         Ventura Road at Ninth Street,
·         Wooley Road at Patterson Road,
·         Victoria Avenue at Wooley Road,
·         and Harbor Boulevard at Wooley Road.

Motorists wishing to travel northbound and southbound in the city are encouraged to use Oxnard Boulevard as it will not be affected by the race.

Rice Ave and Rose Ave are expected to be re-opened by 9:30 A.M. and all other roadways are expected to be re-opened by 12:00 P.M.

DETAILS:
On 12/28/13 at approximately 0105 hours, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of North Oxnard Blvd. regarding a stabbing that had just occurred. When officers arrived they located a male subject that was stabbed. Despite emergency responders’ efforts to save the subject, he died as a result of his injuries.

The subject was a 24 year old Oxnard resident. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Oscar Valles, 43 year old Oxnard resident. Valles is outstanding and police are attempting to locate his whereabouts. Valles and the victim knew each other and investigators believe they had a personal dispute that led to the victim being stabbed. This is Oxnard’s 15^th homicide of the year. The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in homicide cases.

DETAILS: On May 18, two robberies occurred in the south end of Oxnard. Investigating officers believe these robberies may be related. In the first incident that occurred at Carty Park at about 1700 hours, the suspect described above robbed the victim of his cash, bicycle and cell phone. The suspect displayed a taser device as he demanded the items. The suspect was in the company of a Hispanic female, appr. 20 years of age, wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans.

During the second incident that occurred in the 3500 Block of Saviers Road, the suspect described above confronted two juveniles, and demanded property. The suspect claimed to have a taser device. After taking the victim’s cell phone, the suspect fled on a bicycle.

Nobody was injured during these robberies.

On Thursday, 3/6/14, at approximately 11:01 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center received numerous calls of a subject climbing onto a power pole in the 3400 block of South “C” Street.

Upon their arrival, officers located a 22-year old male standing on top of a power pole with stereo headphones covering his ears. The initial Oxnard Police Officers on scene had previously attended Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). CIT training is designed to assist officers in de-escalating potentially dangerous situations with persons suffering from mental illness or experiencing an emotional crisis. With the assistance of Southern California Edison Company lift buckets, officers attempted to begin dialogue with him but he refused to acknowledge them. Edison Company employees assisted in making all of the nearby power lines safe.

Based on the circumstances, members of the Oxnard Police Department Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) and the Oxnard Fire Department were called to the scene to assist. HNT negotiators began communications with the subject from nearby lift buckets and were able to convince the subject to come down from the nearly 40-foot high pole. After nearly four (4) hours, an empty lift bucket was raised to the subject and he was safely rescued from the pole. The subject later told officers he was despondent over recent family issues. He was safely transported to a Ventura County Mental Health facility for evaluation.

On June 3, 2014, at approximately 11:20 P.M, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call for service related to a man down in the area of Wooley Road and Richmond Avenue. They arrived on scene and found an unconscious male subject lying near the roadway. Emergency medical personnel also responded, but unfortunately the male victim was determined to be deceased. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The Oxnard Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this death. An autopsy examination is scheduled to take place on June 4, 2014.

This series of seminars builds on our Department’s Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, which was launched by Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams at the start of the year to empower residents to be partners in public safety and address the increases in property crime citywide.

“We received an overwhelming response from community members, young and older, and from every corner of our City at our first seminar. As a result, we are offering two options this month to give residents another opportunity to attend, and leave with valuable information and help us move towards a safer and stronger community,” said Chief Jeri Williams.

These free community seminars will offer the same information at both sessions, and are bilingual to engage our diverse community – and will also feature special guests and demonstrations.
