DETAILS:
On 3/26/10 at 1405 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were monitoring the drainage canal to the rear of the Wagon Wheel Ice Skating Rink reference ongoing graffiti to the walls and canal.
Officers observed two male juveniles engaging in acts of graffiti vandalism. After additional officers arrived to assist, the juveniles were taken into custody. Further investigation revealed the juveniles were responsible for over 65 acts of graffiti in the area.
Both juveniles were released to their parents pending court appearance. As part of the court process, the Department plans to seek restitution in the amount of $20,000.
Officers will continue to monitor locations throughout Oxnard for violators as part of the City’s “zero tolerance” approach to graffiti vandalism. Those that engage in this type of destructive behavior will be faced with fines, community service, and probation.
