DETAILS:

On the above date and time, an Amtrak train that just left the Oxnard Transportation Center collided with a pedestrian that was on the railroad tracks. This collision occurred on the railroad tracks south of Cooper Road adjacent to Oxnard Boulevard.

The adult male suffered significant injuries and was transported to VCMC for his injuries. The train remained at the scene.

Traffic on Cooper Road at Oxnard Boulevard has been impacted. There is no access to Cooper Road from Oxnard Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route at this time.

On November 14, 2016, at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of East Gonzales Road on a white, 2001 Toyota Avalon after observing a traffic violation.

During contact with the driver, Daniel Miramontes, a high-powered, scoped rifle, later found to be fully loaded, was observed on the rear seat of the vehicle. Miramontes was taken into custody and a search of his person led to the discovery of a concealed, loaded handgun and brass knuckles. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle’s interior and located an additional loaded handgun in the center console. Miramontes was placed under arrest and determined to have been previously convicted of felonious crimes. He was also found to be out on bail for weapons possession and sales of narcotics offenses. Miramontes was charged with possession of firearms and being a convicted felon in possession of firearms. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail.

On November 12, 2016, at approximately 8:55PM, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the above listed vehicle. Officers had knowledge that the driver, Arrieta, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and was on searchable probation.

Once the vehicle stopped, two subjects immediately fled from the vehicle. The driver, Jesus Arrieta, remained inside the vehicle, and was arrested for his warrant. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle pursuant to Arrieta’s probation, and located a loaded firearm inside of the vehicle. Arrieta was also found to have been previously convicted of a felony. His charges included carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and being a felon in possession of firearm. Officers did not locate the two subjects that fled from the vehicle.

DETAILS:

On November 10, 2016, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., students from Pacifica High School, Hueneme High School, and Channel Islands High School walked out of school in protest of the recent national election. Officers from the Oxnard Police Department assisted with traffic control to ensure the safety of the students and that there was minimal impact to motorists in the area.

The protests were peaceful and there were no arrests or property damage.

Assistance was also provided by the Oxnard College Police Department, the Port Hueneme Police Department, the Oxnard Union High School District, the Oxnard Fire Department, and Gold Coast Paramedics.

Officers will be monitoring all the high schools after school.

On November 9, 2016, at 8:50 p.m., a patrol officer from the Oxnard Police Department observed a stolen vehicle taken during a carjacking. The crime occurred in Oxnard, in mid-October and the suspect was armed with a rifle during the crime. As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and a pursuit began. This occurred in the area of Wooley Rd and Oxnard Blvd. The pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes and covered 17 miles.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle collided with a parked car causing minor damage. Both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle were arrested after a short foot pursuit with both suspects. The driver was Jayson Rivera and passenger was identified as Desiree Martinez. Both were booked into the Ventura County Jail on a variety of charges.

On November 8, 2016, at 7:15 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to investigate juveniles using narcotics in the 500 block of North Roosevelt Ave. Once on scene, the officers contacted five subjects. During a search of the individuals and the area, the officers found two of the subjects possessed a loaded short barreled shotgun and a dagger. Both of those juveniles were arrested and later booked into juvenile hall.

Update (Refer to original collision information below):

On November 8, 2016, the driver involved in the serious injury traffic collision, identified as Sonny Ramos, was treated at the Ventura County Reginal Medical Center for injuries sustained during the collision.

Based on the investigation, it was determined that, at the time of the collision, Ramos was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was driving with a suspended license. As a result, Ramos was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while causing bodily injury to another person (23153 (a)(b) CVC), and driving while his license was suspended or revoked (14601.2 CVC). The suspension was from a prior DUI. Ramos was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail with a bail of $250,000.

Two of the children injured during the collision are still admitted in the hospital. The 2-year-old child is listed in stable condition and the 8-year-old child is listed in critical condition. The 15-year-old child was treated for minor injuries and release from the hospital on November 7, 2016.

On November 7, 2016, at about 4:26 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the area of Gisler Avenue and Elm Street regarding a serious injury traffic collision in which a vehicle collided into an apartment located at the California Garden Apartments, 1644 Gisler Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver, identified as Sonny Ramos, was traveling eastbound on Elm Street and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Elm Street and Gisler Avenue. Ramos continued eastbound through the intersection and drove off the roadway colliding into the apartment injuring three children, ages 2, 8, and 15.

Fire personnel had to use rescue tools to remove Ramos from the vehicle and rescue the children from the apartment. Ramos and the three children were transported to local area hospitals for injuries ranging from minor to critical. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and whether alcohol and/or drugs was involved.

On Monday November 7, 2016 at about 1700 hours officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a family dispute in the 1300 block of Ventura Blvd.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim who advised them that his son had attacked him with a sharpened pencil. The victim sustained minor injuries in the attack. The suspect had fled from the home prior to officers’ arrival.

On Tuesday November 8, 2016 officers observed the suspect in the 1300 block of Ventura Blvd. and a foot pursuit was initiated. Officers pursued the suspect through several neighborhoods, and with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s helicopter, eventually took the suspect into custody without incident in the 1000 block of Orange Dr.

The suspect was charged with 245(a)(4) PC Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and 148(a) PC resisting arrest. The suspect was booked into Ventura County Main Jail.

On November 8, 2016, at approximately 0314 hours, officers responded to a call of acarjacking that just occurred. At approximately 0352 hours, Oxnard and Port Hueneme officers were involved in a pursuit with the suspect vehicle. Officers lost the vehicle in the area of Gonzales Rd. and Gina Dr. when the suspect vehicle drove into oncoming traffic to avoid apprehension.

On November 8, 2016, at approximately 0618 hours, members of the community reported a suspicious subject knocking on doors in the area of Gina Dr. Based on the area and the description given by community members it was believed to possibly be the suspect from the earlier carjacking. Officers arrived in the area and located the suspect in the 1600 Blk. of Oneida Pl. The suspect was identified as Nicholas Coronado. Coronado was later positively identified as the suspect responsible for the carjacking and vehicle pursuit.

On November 8, 2016, at approximately 0314 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Channel Islands Boulevard and J Street regarding a male suspect walking down the street with a rifle. As officers were responding, a second reporting party advised a suspect pointed a rifle at him and stole his vehicle near the intersection of Channel Islands Bl. at C Street.

Several officers were dispatched to check the area. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified of the carjacking. At approximately 0352 hours, officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department observed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled from officers. Port Hueneme Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. Shortly thereafter, Oxnard Police Officers took over the pursuit which lasted approximately 15 minutes. The suspect vehicle attempted to evade officers at a high rate of speed running several red lights in major intersections. Eventually the suspect vehicle was lost on Gonzales Road when it drove on the wrong side of the roadway with oncoming traffic. The suspect is outstanding and the investigation is ongoing.
