(OXNARD, Calif) – The Oxnard Police Department is releasing the names of the two homicide victims from this past weekend.
 
Noe Mosqueda, a 31 year old Oxnard resident, was shot and killed on June 10, 2016, at approximately 9:04 P.M. Mosqueda was standing outside his residence in the 4800 block of Terrace Avenue when he was shot and killed by an unknown person.
 
Ramiro Pardo, a 41 year old Oxnard resident, was shot and killed on June 12, 2016, at approximately 9:01 P.M. Pardo was standing in the front yard of a friend’s house in the 1700 block of South E Street when an unknown assailant shot and killed Pardo.
 
Although both murders occurred one day apart, detectives say there is no indication or evidence to believe that the murders are related. Detectives are searching for a motive for both murders, and gang motivation has not been ruled out.

DETAILS:
On June 18, 2016, at 11:28 a.m., Oxnard Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to a suspicious device at the Wal Mart located at 2701 Saviers Rd.  When police and fire personnel arrived, they located a bowl containing a mixture of bubbling chemicals.  The bowl also had an electrical cord, which was plugged into an outlet, dipped into the substance.
 
As a safety precaution, Wal Mart was evacuated while the substance was examined by the Oxnard Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit.  The F.B.I. field office and Ventura County Bomb Squad were also consulted.  After several hours on scene, the Hazardous Materials Unit determined that the suspicious substance was non energetic.  The substance was removed and evidence was collected at the scene.  Video of the possible suspect was collected, and the image of the subject is attached below.

(OXNARD, Calif) – The Oxnard Police Department is investigating two homicides that occurred almost six hours apart in different locations of the city. Preliminary information indicates that the two homicides do not appear to be related.
 
The first homicide occurred at approximately 1700 hours. Oxnard police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 1900 block of North Ventura Road. When officers arrived on scene, the located a male in his early 30’s with multiple gunshot wounds. Police officers provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived on scene. The victim was rushed to the Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance. Unfortunately, the victim died of his injuries.
 
The second homicide occurred at approximately 2300 hours. Oxnard police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 1300 block of South C Street. The officers located a male in his early 20 with multiple gunshot wounds in a nearby parking lot. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived, but pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
 
The Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit and Major Crimes Unit responded to both incidents and assumed the investigations. At this point in the investigations, detectives do not have any suspect information. The motive for either homicide is unknown, and gang motivation has not been ruled out.
 
This is Oxnard’s seventh and eight homicides for the year.

(OXNARD, Calif) – Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating a death that occurred at the Timbers Apartments, located at 301 West Vineyard Avenue.
 
On July 3, 2016 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Oxnard police officers were called to investigate a possible trespassing in one of the apartments. Officers searched the apartment and found a deceased male, later identified as 24 year old Billy Navarro. It appeared that Navarro died of a gunshot wound. Navarro was the former resident of the apartment in which he was found.

Oxnard residents are partnering with the Oxnard Police and Fire Departments to bring you a series of National Night Out (NNO) events scheduled for next Tuesday, August 2, 2016 and Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
 
NNO is a national effort of cities, law enforcement agencies, crime prevention organizations, community groups and neighborhoods. Along with traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.
 
National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that community members are organized, vigilant and willing to report crime.
 
Events throughout Oxnard will bring the District Teams who patrol and serve each District to a location where they can meet their neighborhood members.  District Teams focus on crime, traffic safety, and quality of life issues at the neighborhood level and need the public’s help to best do their jobs.  Also participating in the event is the Oxnard Fire Department who will be sharing risk reduction and fire prevention strategies. 
 
There is still time to schedule your own event!  Just follow the below steps to have your own NNO event:

  • Each group that is participating is asked to notify the police department so that we can make arrangements to stop by. 
  • You do not have to be part of an organized group (Neighborhood Council, Neighborhood Watch) to have an event. 
  • This is about neighbors getting to know neighbors and celebrating together!

(OXNARD, CA.)– As we pass the one year anniversary of Robert Paul Sarles’ murder, investigators with the Oxnard Police Department are again asking for the public’s help in providing any information related to the senseless murder of 19-year old Oxnard resident, Robert “Bobby” Sarles.
 
On the evening of July 15, 2015, Sarles was walking through Lemonwood Park on his way home when he was shot repeatedly. Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the senseless attack.
 
Investigators have interviewed numerous witnesses and followed several leads. Investigators believe that there are people in the community that have information that can assist investigators in identifying the suspect(s) in this case. Investigators are asking anyone that has information about this homicide to call the Oxnard Police Department and place an anonymous call. Providing any information could be very helpful to this investigation. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated by the Sarles Family, the community and the Oxnard Police Department.

DETAILS:(Oxnard, Calif)– The Oxnard Police Department is releasing the name of the police officer who shot at an armed gang member in Oxnard late Sunday night.

 On August 14, 2016 at approximately 10:10 p.m., Oxnard Police Officer Brian Zamore was on patrol when he was dispatched to a call of a shooting in the 300 block of Canterbury Way. Officer Zamore arrived at the crime scene and started to search the Southwinds Neighborhood.  The suspect was armed with a handgun and had shot at a father who was protecting his family.
 
Officer Zamore located 19 year old Julio Isidoro near the intersection of Perkins Road and Clara Street, which was a few blocks away from Canterbury Way. Isidoro matched the description of the shooting suspect that was given to police officers by the victim and witnesses. Officer Zamore tried to contact Isidoro, but Isidoro fled and attempted to conceal himself in a dark corner of a front yard of a family residence. Officer Zamore searched the yard and was able to locate Isidoro with the use of his flashlight. Officer Zamore drew his service weapon and ordered Isidoro to show him his hands, but Isidoro refused to listen to the officer’s orders. Isidoro, who was armed with a loaded semi-automatic handgun, made suspicious furtive movements in the bushes and refused to listen to Officer Zamore’s orders. Officer Zamore, concerned for his safety, fired one round from his service pistol at Isidoro. The bullet fired from Officer Zamore’s pistol missed Isidoro; Isidoro was not injured. Isidoro immediately surrendered to officers without further incident. Isidoro’s loaded handgun was recovered at the scene.
 
An investigator from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office and investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigations.
 
Investigators learned that Isidoro was a suspect in two assaults leading up to the officer involved shooting. Isidoro was suspected of committing an assault on a female at Southwinds Park earlier in the evening, as well as shooting at a father who was protecting his family in the 300 block of Canterbury Way. Isidoro was also identified as an occupant of a vehicle who fled from an Oxnard police officer during a traffic stop at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday evening. During that incident, a 14 year old juvenile was arrested and a shotgun was located in the vehicle. Isidoro is a documented Oxnard gang member and had been served with the gang injunction. Isidoro is in custody at Ventura County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, weapons violations, and the special allegation that he committed the crimes for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
 
If not for the quick response by Oxnard police officers, including Officer Zamore’s quick action in locating Isidoro and confronting him, and the assistance of witnesses and members of the community there is a great likelihood that Isidoro’s violent assault on community members in the Southwinds Neighborhood would have continued.
 
Also arrested Sunday evening with Isidoro was 19 year old Jose Olea, from Oxnard. Like Isidoro, Olea is considered a documented Oxnard gang member. Olea was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant and assault with a deadly weapon.
 
Officer Brian Zamore is currently assigned to the Patrol Services Bureau as a patrol officer. The three year veteran is currently on paid administrative leave, which is department policy for officers involved in a shooting incident.

On Thursday, September 1, 2016, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s license checkpoint in the City of Oxnard.  The checkpoint was conducted in the southbound lanes of Vineyard Avenue south of Esplanade Drive. This location was chosen to provide increased DUI deterrence and in response to recent alcohol-related arrests and/or DUI collisions. 
 
The checkpoint resulted in the following:
 

  • 896 vehicles through
  • 589 drivers screened
  • Two DUI investigations
  • One DUI alcohol arrest
  • Seven citations issued to unlicensed drivers
  • 17 total citations issued
  • One vehicle towed

 
The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year.  These operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer.  We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911.  These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On September 10, 2016, at about 2000 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a silver Honda Civic for a traffic violation.  Officers contacted the driver, Labo, who was found to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. During the arrest, Labo was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine. 
 
During a search of Labo’s vehicle, officers located a loaded revolver.  Additional handgun ammunition, including shotgun ammunition, was also located in Labo’s vehicle.  It was determined that Labo is a previously convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. 
 
Labo was ultimately arrested for several firearms and narcotics related violations, as well as his warrants.

On September 15, 2016, at about 10:20 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Gang Unit (Special Enforcement Unit) were conducting uniform gang enforcement in the 300 block of north “C” St. when they conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle violation. 
 
When officers approached the vehicle they noticed Madrigal inside and recognized him as being on probation.  The gang officers also know that Madrigal is an active gang member.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located a loaded short barreled shot gun, methamphetamine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia. 
 
Madrigal was arrested for possessing a loaded short barreled shotgun, possession of drugs for sale, and drug paraphernalia. 
 
The Oxnard Police Department Gang Unit (Special Enforcement Unit) is committed to reducing gang crimes and gun violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the city.
