DETAILS: Earlier today firefighters from the Oxnard Fire Department reported that an equipment vehicle was stolen from the lot of Fire Station #1, located on South K Street in Oxnard. The vehicle is a red Ford F350 truck with a stake bed and emergency overhead lights. Officers are currently searching for the vehicle and the investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

On July 2, 2017, at approximately 4:15 p.m., an officer patrolling near the intersection of Gilser Ave. and Maple St. observed an individual use an acrylic paint and commit graffiti vandalism on the sidewalk. The officer contacted the suspect, 23 year old Wilmington resident Carlos Barry, and arrested him for committing misdemeanor graffiti vandalism and for possessing graffiti tools. Barry had written his moniker on the sidewalk.

On July 1, 2017, at approximately 10:10 p.m., officers on patrol observed an individual committing graffiti vandalism on one of the traffic light poles. The subject also committed graffiti vandalism on one of the traffic signs at the intersection. Officers contacted the suspect, 22 year old Oxnard resident, Isaac Hidalgo and arrested him for committing misdemeanor graffiti vandalism and for possessing graffiti tools.

Enhanced Traffic Enforcement results in 45 citations, 3 arrests, and 3 vehicles towed

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement operation in response to recent complaints and traffic collisions related to illegal street racing, reckless driving, and unsafe vehicles operating on our roadways. The police department has received complaints from community members of large numbers of vehicles gathering and disturbing at different locations around the city. The Traffic Unit has also investigated four serious injury and fatal traffic collisions involving street racing, speeding, and unsafe driving this year.

During the four-hour traffic enforcement operation, officers issued 45 citations and three vehicles were towed. One driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and two drivers were arrested after they were observed being involved in an illegal street race.

Over the past several years, there has been an increased presence of these types of unsanctioned events in Oxnard and throughout the county. Street racing, drag racing, drifting, and other forms of unpermitted driving create a very dangerous environment for everyone on our roadways. We encourage these groups to find legal, permitted, and official locations to show their vehicles. However, unsafe vehicles and driving practices will not be tolerated, and those doing these acts will be subject to citations, vehicles being towed, and possibly arrested.

It is the mission of the Oxnard Police Department to promote traffic safety and to reduce the number of collisions in our community. The police department will continue these types of enforcement operations in an effort to make our roadways safer.

Oxnard, CA – This Tuesday, July 4^th, the Channel Islands Harbor District will be hosting its 20^th annual Fourth of July event. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a 5K & 10K Fun Run/Walk along Sunset Lane and Mandalay Beach Road. This will be followed by the July 4^th Children’s Parade on Harbor Boulevard. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and take place on Harbor Boulevard between Cabezone Circle and Albacore Way. Harbor Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic during the parade. Motorists can use Sunset Lane or Ocean Drive as an alternate route.

Activities and entertainment are scheduled throughout the day at the Channel Islands Harbor. Marine Emporium Landing will have activities between 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., including live music, face painting, an inflatable fun zone, and a rock climbing wall. There will also be vendors with booths as well as a farmer’s market. This will be a family-oriented event with fun for all. The event will end with a fireworks show that begins at 9:00 p.m. and can best be seen near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard.

Public consumption of alcohol, possession, and use of fireworks, including those described as “Safe and Sane”, and use of flare ignition devices will not be tolerated. All law enforcement agencies working the event will be conducting strict enforcement of all related offenses.

This event is expected to draw a large crowd and traffic delays are expected following the fireworks show. The Oxnard Police Department will be handling traffic control to expedite the flow of traffic surrounding the event site. Starting at 7:00 p.m., all intersections on Victoria Avenue and Harbor Boulevard from Fifth Street to the harbor area will be monitored by traffic officers. The Channel Islands Bridge, between Victoria Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, is subject to closure prior to the fireworks display and will be closed after the fireworks display to facilitate the high traffic volume leaving the event.

In addition, the Oxnard Police Department would also like to notify the public that driving on any beach in the City of Oxnard is strictly prohibited. From 5:00 p.m. on July 3^rd to noon on July 5^th, Arnold Road south of Hueneme Road will be closed to all vehicles with the exception of those who have legitimate business in that area or who are traveling to and from work. Parking restrictions on Arnold Road will be strictly enforced.

If you live in the area of these roadways or intersections, we apologize for any inconvenience. The roads will be re-opened as soon as possible. These traffic flow modifications are taking place to assist in relieving the traffic congestion from this event in a timely and orderly fashion, with caution for pedestrians.

(OXNARD, Calif) – The Oxnard Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance and is asking for witnesses to assist in the investigation of the shooting death of 33-year old Eduardo Banales.

On June 11, 2017 at approximately 10:19 p.m., Banales was shot in the parking lot of Wilson Park, located at 350 North C Street. Banales was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) by ambulance. Despite the live-saving efforts of the medical staff, Banales died at the hospital on June 13, 2107.

During a canvass of the area, Major Crimes Detectives obtained information that several vehicles were seen leaving the parking lot of Wilson Park shortly after the shooting. One of those vehicles (pictured below) was described as a newer model white Chevrolet Silverado 4-door full-sized truck. The truck has tinted windows, chrome rims and is possibly a 4×4 with raised suspension and turn signals on the side view mirrors. Detectives believe the driver and occupants of the truck were at the park and witnessed the shooting.

Detectives would like to speak to the driver of the truck and to the occupants. Detectives are requesting that the driver and the occupants call Detective Miguel Serrato at (805) 385-7688.

An Oxnard Police traffic officer recovered a stolen vehicle near the 101 Freeway and Vineyard Avenue exit in Oxnard and made an arrest.

On Thursday, 6/29/17, just before 9 a.m., police spotted the stolen white Mitsubishi Mirage going north on the freeway. The car was driven by a juvenile with other juvenile passengers. Police followed the vehicle and the driver disobeyed traffic laws.

Oxnard Police took a juvenile into custody for being in possession of the stolen vehicle.

The Oxnard Police Department is currently searching for a missing 68 year old dependent adult who walked away from his home. Roberto Guzman was last seen in the area of the 700 block of Janetwood Dr, in Oxnard, around 6am this morning. Mr. Guzman suffers from Alzheimer’s. Mr. Guzman is described as a Hispanic male, 5’-4”, 160 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. Mr. Guzman was last seen wearing a dark blue jacket, white shirt and tan cargo pants.

Currently the Oxnard Police Department is conducting an area search for Mr. Guzman.

On June 25, 2017, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Gang Unit (Special Enforcement Unit) were conducting uniform gang enforcement in the area of Garfield Ave and Cooper Rd when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, for a vehicle violation.

The vehicle was driven by Steven Gutierrez who is on probation for theft with search terms for stolen property. Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded firearm, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and items consistent with drug sales. Gutierrez was arrested for all of the above listed items.

The Oxnard Police Department Gang Unit (Special Enforcement Unit) is committed to reducing gang crimes and gun violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the city. On June 25, 2017, at about 0112 hours, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a shooting victim in the 3600 block of South B Street in Oxnard. The victim, a 25 year old male, stated he was standing in front of his residence when he was shot. The victim received a gunshot wound to his left arm and was transported to a local hospital. The victim’s injury is not life threatening.
