DETAILS:
On December 15, 2017, at approximately 9:52 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were checking the area of Perkins Road and McWane Boulevard related to an earlier call for service. A vehicle was located in the area and detained for a vehicle code violation.
As officers approached the vehicle, they saw that the right front passenger, 21-year-old Oxnard resident Mark Garganta, had a 9mm semi-automatic pistol concealed on the floorboard near his feet. Officers immediately took Garganta into custody and determined that the pistol was loaded with several rounds of ammunition.
The vehicle was later searched and several additional rounds of ammunition for the pistol were found. Garganta is a convicted felon who is prohibited by law from possessing firearms. Garganta was arrested for various firearms and other related charges and later booked into the Ventura County Jail for the violations.
