DETAILS:
On November 28, 2017, at approximately 4:54 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a single vehicle collision which occurred on Edison Drive south of McWane Blvd. When officers arrived, they discovered that a 2010 Chrysler Sebring, driven by 20-year-old Oxnard resident Leticia Jennifer Medina, had collided with a gate. Medina sustained minor injuries however the passenger, 18-year-old Rosalinda Zavala of Oxnard, sustained major injuries. Zavala was immediately transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition. Medina was also transported to the hospital but was released after receiving treatment due to minor injuries.
Based on the initial investigation, it was determined that the Medina was driving northbound in the southbound lane of Edison Drive south of McWane Blvd. Zavala was seated in the right front passenger seat filming vehicles in the area. As Medina continued northbound along the west curb line, the vehicle collided with a large metal gate which penetrated the passenger compartment and possibly struck Zavala.
Speed and alcohol/drugs are not believed to be contributing factors to the collision. The collision is still under investigation. Anyone who has information about this collision is urged to contact Officer Philip Flores at (805) 200-5668 or via email at philip.flores@oxnardpd.org.
