DETAILS:
On October 8, 2017, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian which occurred in the 1400 block of West Gonzales Road. When officers arrived, they discovered a 70-year-male pedestrian in the roadway who had been struck by a vehicle. EMS personnel rendered medical aid to the pedestrian; however despite lifesaving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.
Based on the initial investigation, it was determined that the pedestrian was walking northbound across the westbound lanes of Gonzales Road and was struck by a dark colored pickup truck. After the collision, the pickup truck was seen fleeing the area westbound on Gonzales Road and then continued northbound on Ventura Road. Investigators believe that the pickup truck possibly sustained frontend damage as a result of the collision.
This is the ninth fatal collision that has occurred in Oxnard this year. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved. The collision is still under investigation.
