DETAILS:

On July 1, 2018 at about 3:30 A.M., Oxnard Police Officers responded to a shooting victim at 1950 Solar Drive. When Officers arrived, the victim, Donald Reyes Jr. was located inside a hotel room. The victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Personnel at the scene.

The Major Crimes Detectives responded to the scene, began interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance video. During the investigation, detectives were able to identify a 17-year old Hispanic male suspect. The investigation revealed the 17-year old suspect and Donald Reyes Jr. were involved in an argument when the suspect shot Donald Reyes Jr. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

Major Crimes detectives along with the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit attempted to locate the identified suspect. At about 2:00 P.M. The Special Enforcement Unit was able to locate the suspect and take him into custody without incident. The suspect was arrested for murder and transferred to the Ventura County Juvenile Hall.

On July 1, 2018 at about 3:30 A.M., Oxnard Police Officers responded to the 1900 block Solar Drive, Oxnard regarding a shooting victim. When officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene, they attempted to render aid to the victim. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. This is the 9^th homicide of the year for the City of Oxnard.

DETAILS:

On June 29, 2018 at 4:21 PM Oxnard Police Department officers responded to Yale Street and Highland Avenue to investigate a citizen’s report of several gang members loitering in the area. Officers arrived and observed seven subjects with open containers of alcohol.

During the investigation, officers attempted to search Filemoni Aloese but he became uncooperative. After subduing Aloese, a 9-shot 22 caliber revolver was located concealed in his waistband. Officers then searched Rodolfo Raya and found a hammer concealed in his waistband in addition to a methamphetamine pipe. Another firearm was located in a red Nissan Sentra parked next to the group. The gun was retrieved and found to be a 22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The vehicle was determined to belong to another member of the group, Russell Escalona. Aloese and Escalona were arrested for the firearms-related charges and Raya was arrested for the concealed weapon as well as the drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, June 28, 2018, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s license checkpoint in the City of Oxnard. The checkpoint was conducted in the westbound lanes of Pleasant Valley Road east of C Street. This location was chosen to provide increased DUI deterrence and in response to recent alcohol-related arrests and DUI collisions.

The checkpoint resulted in the following:

882 vehicles through the checkpoint
823 drivers screened
Six DUI investigations
Four DUI alcohol arrests
One DUI drug arrest
One misdemeanor warrant arrest
22 citations issued to unlicensed drivers
30 total citations issued
One vehicle towed

The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year. These operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. We also remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On June 27, 2018 at about 2:55 P.M., Oxnard Police Officers responded to the 400 block East Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard regarding two shooting victims. When officers arrived, one subject was pronounced dead at the scene and a second male was transported to the hospital.

The victims have been identified as 21 year old Alejandro Sanchez of Oxnard and 20 year old Christian Morales of Oxnard. Both Sanchez and Morales died from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe Sanchez and Morales’ deaths were gang motivated.

After further investigation, Major Crimes investigators have identified the victim as 39 year old Robert DeLaCerda of Oxnard. DeLaCerda died as a result of a gunshot wound. Investigators believe that DeLaCerda’s death was gang motivated.

Major Crimes investigators are on the scene of a Homicide of a 39 year old Hispanic male in the 4000 block of South J Street. The southbound lane will be closed for an undetermined time. More information will be released at a later time.

DETAILS:

On June 27, 2018, at approximately 7:56 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a train collision involving a pedestrian near Fifth Street west of Rose Avenue. Upon arrival, EMS personnel located a pedestrian, identified as 38-year-old Oxnard resident Matthew Wunderlich, lying alongside the railroad tracks. Wunderlich sustained moderate injuries to his upper torso and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Amtrak investigators believe Wunderlich was alongside the railroad tracks and, for some unknown reason, walked onto the tracks and into the path of an oncoming Amtrak train. DETAILS:

On June 26, at approximately 6:35 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle collided into two parked vehicles on Anita Ave., south of Colonia Rd. The driver, Omar Medina, and the right front passenger, Jesus Morales, immediately fled from the collision and discarded handguns as they fled. Medina discarded his handgun in the area of a crowded courtyard of an apartment complex with several small children present.

Medina and Morales were both apprehended after brief foot pursuits. The third occupant, Uriel Barrera, remained in the vehicle. Barrera is on parole and was arrested for violating the terms of his supervised release. Medina was charged with felony evading, hit and run, possession of a loaded handgun, and other weapons charges. Morales, who is also on parole, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, and other weapons violations. All occupants are documented criminal street gang members.

On June 24, 2018, at about 4:45 PM, the Oxnard Police Department received a call of a shooting victim in the 200 block of Cuesta Del Mar. The victim, a 23 year old Oxnard resident, was driven to St. John’s Hospital by friends prior to police arrival on scene. The victim was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower back.
