UPDATE:

The second subject who was transported to the hospital has died of his injuries.

DETAILS:

Oxnard Police Officers responded to the 400 block East Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard regarding two shooting victims. When officers arrived, one subject was pronounced dead at the scene and a second male was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. The 400 block East Pleasant Valley Road is currently closed for an undetermined time. More information will be released at a later time.

UPDATE:

After further investigation, Major Crimes investigators have identified the victim as 39 year old Robert DeLaCerda of Oxnard. DeLaCerda died as a result of a gunshot wound. Investigators believe that DeLaCerda’s death was gang motivated.

Major Crimes investigators are on the scene of a Homicide of a 39 year old Hispanic male in the 4000 block of South J Street. The southbound lane will be closed for an undetermined time. More information will be released at a later time.

On June 27, 2018, at approximately 7:56 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a train collision involving a pedestrian near Fifth Street west of Rose Avenue. Upon arrival, EMS personnel located a pedestrian, identified as 38-year-old Oxnard resident Matthew Wunderlich, lying alongside the railroad tracks. Wunderlich sustained moderate injuries to his upper torso and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Amtrak investigators believe Wunderlich was alongside the railroad tracks and, for some unknown reason, walked onto the tracks and into the path of an oncoming Amtrak train. DETAILS:

On June 26, at approximately 6:35 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle collided into two parked vehicles on Anita Ave., south of Colonia Rd. The driver, Omar Medina, and the right front passenger, Jesus Morales, immediately fled from the collision and discarded handguns as they fled. Medina discarded his handgun in the area of a crowded courtyard of an apartment complex with several small children present.

Medina and Morales were both apprehended after brief foot pursuits. The third occupant, Uriel Barrera, remained in the vehicle. Barrera is on parole and was arrested for violating the terms of his supervised release. Medina was charged with felony evading, hit and run, possession of a loaded handgun, and other weapons charges. Morales, who is also on parole, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, and other weapons violations. All occupants are documented criminal street gang members.

On June 24, 2018, at about 4:45 PM, the Oxnard Police Department received a call of a shooting victim in the 200 block of Cuesta Del Mar. The victim, a 23 year old Oxnard resident, was driven to St. John’s Hospital by friends prior to police arrival on scene. The victim was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower back.

On June 23, 2018, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit observed a felony wanted subject in the area of Oxnard Boulevard and Colonia Road. The subject was identified as Sergio Contreras and was seen entering a nearby motel where he was subsequently found by police. He was taken into custody without incident after a brief standoff.

Contreras is prohibited from owning or possessing any firearm or ammunition. Officers conducted a search of his vehicle and located a 9mm handgun and live ammunition. Contreras was also wanted by police for brandishing a firearm at a local establishment. He was charged with the illegal firearm possession as well as the pending case.

On June 23, 2018, at approximately 1:16 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a motorcyclist down in the roadway on Gonzales Rd. just west of Campus Rd. When officers arrived on scene they located an unidentified subject lying in the road deceased.

Based upon the initial investigation, officers determined that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Gonzales Rd. at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist left the roadway and struck a tree.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved. The collision is still under investigation.

DETAILS:

This morning at 12:50 a.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies received a LoJack hit in Solvang on a black, 2006 Infiniti that had been stolen out of Oxnard. Deputies stopped the Infiniti, along with a Scion that appeared to be accompanying it. They discovered stolen property inside the vehicles, including a shotgun, which appeared to be from multiple burglaries in Oxnard and Ventura.

The Oxnard Police Department Property Crimes Unit (PCU), as well as the Oxnard Auto Theft Task Force (OATTF), were notified and responded to Santa Barbara County to conduct an investigation. After sifting through the property, it was discovered that some of the property had been taken during a vehicle burglary on 06/17/18 in the 1400 block of Lombard. Detectives were also able to piece together that property located in the vehicle came from a burglary that had occurred on 06/18/18 in the 1000 block of Alturas in which the suspects entered through an unlocked side-garage door. The PCU is currently working with Ventura Police Department to contact the owners of the stolen property from their case. At the time of this writing, the investigation is still on-going and PCU detectives are working diligently to return the stolen property to its owners.

The driver of the stolen Infiniti, Rodolfo Gutierrez, 05/30/99 was arrested for vehicle theft. Both Thomas Moreno, 05/13/99 and one of the 17 year old juveniles were arrested for possession of stolen property. The final juvenile was not charged but had been listed as a “Missing Person” and he was released to the custody of his parents.

The Oxnard Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating additional video evidence of burglaries that occurred on 06/18/18 in the area of Cloyne Street and Dollie Street. Also, OPD is attempting to locate additional victims in this area.

On Monday, 06/18/18, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a call of a residential burglary in the 4000 block of Cloyne Street. Officers were advised that a suspect was being detained by the residents.

Upon arrival, officers found a 16 year old Oxnard resident being detained and took him into custody. The residents told officers that when they returned home from dinner, they noticed lights on inside the residence. Once inside, the residents located the suspect in one of the rooms with property positioned for removal from the residence. It was at this time he was detained. After further investigation, officers discovered that the suspect had entered through an unlocked or open window.

During the time that the report on Cloyne Street being taken, it was discovered that another home on Dollie Street had been burglarized with video evidence pointing to the same suspect.

The 16 year old was arrested on two counts of residential burglary and lodged in Juvenile Hall.

On June 18, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit located wanted felon, Marshall Perez, in the 400 blk. of Palm Dr. As officers attempted to contact Perez, he fled into his residence. Officers established a perimeter and had occupants exit the residence. Once occupants were removed from the residence, officers cleared the residence with the exception of the attic. Officers then called for the assistance of the K9 unit.

Several announcements were made and officers ultimately made verbal contact with Perez. Perez came down from the attic but refused to comply with the officers. After several warnings and opportunities to comply, the K9 was deployed and Perez was taken into custody. Perez, who is on Post Release Community Supervision for auto theft, was once again charged with auto theft. Perez was also charged with resisting arrest.
