On October 6, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) observed suspect David Reyes, who was wanted for two felony warrants, in the area of Collins and Vineyard Ave. In addition to having felony warrants, Reyes was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. Suspect Reyes entered the El Rio neighborhood and drove recklessly. Reyes committed several vehicle code violations and nearly caused a traffic collision. For the safety of the residents, officers discontinued the pursuit. The stolen vehicle was recovered and officers were unable to locate Reyes.
On October 7, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit and K-9 Unit conducted directed patrol in the El Rio neighborhood in an effort to locate and apprehend Reyes. Officers located Reyes in the 800 blk. of Orange Dr. Reyes attempted to flee but was taken into custody. Reyes was charged with reckless evading (felony) and for being in possession of a stolen vehicle (felony) for the events that occurred on October 6. When officers took Reyes into custody, he was found to be in possession of meth, and heroin. Reyes was additionally charged with narcotics possession and resisting arrest.
