On November 14, 2018, at approximately 6:48 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Rice Avenue and Camino Del Sol. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a grey 2014 Toyota Camry and 2011 white Chevy 2500 pickup truck were involved in the collision. The occupants of the Toyota, who were identified as 74-year-old driver Arnold Francis Fontaine and 58-year-old passenger Shirley Yvonne Fontaine of Ventura, were immediately transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. Arnold Fontaine sustained moderate injuries and is listed in stable condition. Shirley Fontaine was provided advanced medical treatment however succumbed to her injuries. The occupants of the Chevy pickup truck, identified as 32-year-old driver Derek Nicholas Rogers of Oak Hills and 51-year-old passenger Ruel Gabayeron of Bellflower, were uninjured and cooperated with the investigation.
Based on the preliminary investigation, traffic investigators determined the Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto Camino Del Sol. While traveling through the intersection, the Toyota collided with the Chevy pickup truck which was traveling northbound on Rice Avenue. It is unknown whether or not drugs and/or alcohol were involved in the collision
