On December 1, 2020, Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Sombra Way regarding a suspect, later identified as 37-year old Joseph Barkley, who unlawfully entered the victim’s residence. As officers responded, they were advised that Barkley fled the residence and was being chased by neighbors. Officers arrived and were told that Barkley ran into and illegally entered a residence in the 1200 block of Opalo Drive. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and made verbal contact with the suspect. Barkley told officers that he was armed with a shotgun. Officer’s made several attempts to convince Barkley to surrender to police peacefully; however, Barkley refused. Officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) entered the residence and took Barkley into custody with the assistance of Police K9 Rocky. Barkley was arrested and charged with residential burglary and trespassing.
