SUBJECT: Four Suspects Arrested in Gang Shooting

On March 4, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to Southwinds Park in the 300 block of West Clara Street regarding a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located three male victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The three victims were treated for their injuries at the scene and transported to area hospitals.

Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) responded and took over the investigation. Investigators identified the four suspects responsible for the shooting as Alejandro Alzalde and three 17-year-old male juveniles. Investigators also determined that the motive for the shooting was gang-related.

On April 17, 2025, VCU, with assistance from the Oxnard Police Department SWAT Team, Canine Unit, Investigative Services Bureau, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, served simultaneous search warrants related to the investigation. The search warrants were executed in the La Colonia neighborhood.

Alejandro Alzalde and one juvenile were located and arrested during the execution of the search warrants. A second juvenile was arrested at the Oxnard Police Department, while the third was arrested at the Juvenile Justice Center, where he was already in custody for unrelated offenses.

Alzalde and one of the juvenile suspects were charged with attempted murder, conspiracy, and the unlawful transfer of a firearm. The other two juveniles faced charges for conspiracy and the unlawful transfer of a firearm.

Additionally, all four suspects are documented members of a criminal street gang. As a result, they were each charged with violations of the Street Terrorism Enforcement and Prevention Act (gang enhancement).

The Oxnard Police Department is asking for the community's assistance in locating a missing dependent adult. Sergio Ambriz is an 80 year old Hispanic male with grey hair and brown eyes. Mr. Ambriz was last seen at approximately 2:45PM leaving his residence in the 200 block of Redwood Street. He was wearing a blue hooded jacket, a white long sleeve shirt, grey pants, blue shoes, and a “Mexico” baseball style hat. It is unknown where he may have gone.

We are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Ambriz. If you have any information about his whereabouts, we ask that you contact the Oxnard Police Department dispatch immediately at (805) 385-7740.

Oxnard Police Department Alcohol Enforcement Operation

On April 11, 2025, the Oxnard Police Department conducted an enforcement operation focused on alcohol-related crimes and quality of life issues near establishments that sell alcohol. These types of enforcement operations are designed to create awareness about alcohol-related crimes throughout California and keep communities safe.

During the operation, officers arrested five individuals who were involved in narcotics-related activities in and around areas where families and minors frequent. Two additional subjects were also cited for drinking alcohol in public.

Funding for this program was provided by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), through their Grant Assistance Program. ABC is a Department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.

On April 11, 2025, at approximately 10:04 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 500 Block of Cuesta Del Mar Dr regarding a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 25-year-old male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) with non-life-threatening injuries where he was listed in stable condition.

Officers located evidence of the shooting at the scene. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.

SUBJECT: DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint and DUI Saturation Results

Four impaired drivers arrested during DUI checkpoint and saturation.

On April 11, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department held a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint at West Wooley Road and “A” Street. At the same time additional officers conducted a city-wide DUI saturation. The operation resulted in four arrests for impaired driving, one arrest for reckless driving, and twenty-five citations for various traffic violations, including unlicensed driver.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

Funding for this checkpoint and DUI enforcement patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On April 10, 2025, at approximately 8:56 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Oxnard Blvd and Sixth St. Officers contacted one of the passengers of the vehicle identified as Angel Merino, 18 years old. During the contact, Merino was found to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun. Merino was arrested for firearms related charges.

Oxnard Police Department to hold DUI Checkpoint and use extra officers to patrol for suspected impaired drivers

The Oxnard Police Department will have additional officers working patrol on Friday, April 11, 2025, specifically looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In addition, the Oxnard Police Department will hold a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city. The DUI Checkpoint and DUI patrols will be from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

DUI checkpoints and patrols are done in locations with a history of DUI-related collisions and arrests. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

The Oxnard Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

SUBJECT: Documented Gang Member / Parolee Found in Possession of a Stolen Firearm

SUSPECTS: Angel Cardona, 42-year-old Oxnard resident

LOCATION: 100 blk. of Magnolia Ave., Oxnard

On April 9^th 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) and Violent Crimes Unit located Angel Cardona in the 100 blk. of Magnolia Ave. Cardona, a parolee and documented criminal street gang member, had felony warrants for evading and for absconding from parole. Cardona was on parole for a previous felony assault on a peace officer.

Due to Cardona’s lengthy and violent history, officers conducted a high risk stop and ultimately took Cardona into custody. Officers searched the vehicle Cardona was operating and located a loaded, .45 caliber, semi-automatic handgun that was previously reported stolen. Cardona was also found to be in possession of narcotics.

Cardona was ultimately charged for violating the conditions of his parole. The narcotics and firearm charges are pending further investigation.

SUBJECT: Assault with A Deadly Weapon Against a Police Officer

SUSPECTS: Lucio Sedeno, 34-year-old Oxnard resident

LOCATION: 1600 block Astoria Place, Oxnard

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Astoria Place in Oxnard regarding a family dispute on the above date and time. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect, Lucio Sedeno, had battered a family member and was out of 290 PC compliance. Sedeno fled the scene on foot, and officers gave chase. During the foot pursuit, Sedeno obtained a piece of glass and slashed at officers, which caused a one-inch laceration to an officer’s jaw. Sedeno was taken into custody without incident for various crimes, including Assault With A Deadly Weapon, 290 PC Violations, and others. The officer was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for the laceration. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
