SUSPECT:    17 year old male juvenile

LOCATION:  1300 block Commercial Avenue, Oxnard

On the above date/time, Oxnard Police officers contacted multiple persons in the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue.  One of these persons, a 17 year old male juvenile, was found to be in possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm.  This male juvenile was arrested for firearms-related charges and lodged at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center.

SUBJECT:     Domestic Violence / Firearm Arrest

LOCATION:   900 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard

VICTIM:         29-year-old, female Oxnard resident

SUSPECT:     Alejandro Salas Jr., 26-year-old, Oxnard Resident

On May 23, 2025, at about 1811 hours, Patrol Officers responded to the 900 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard regarding a domestic violence incident involving a firearm.  

 

When the officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, Alejandro Salas Jr., was in an argument with his girlfriend.  During the argument, Salas battered her and threatened to kill her.  The victim was forced to leave the residence to get treatment and was forced to FaceTime Salas so he knew she was not talking to police.  Salas remained in the residence with their three-month-old child.

 

The Oxnard Police Department SWAT team responded to the scene. Investigators were able to coax Salas out of the residence without his child, and he was taken into custody without incident while in possession of a firearm. Salas was booked into the Ventura County Jail on multiple charges, including kidnapping, domestic battery causing injury, assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, child endangerment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

SUBJECT:    DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint and DUI Saturation Results

 Four impaired drivers arrested during DUI checkpoint and saturation.

 

On May 23, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department held a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint at Rose Avenue and Camino De La Luna. Additional officers conducted a city-wide DUI saturation. The operations resulted in four arrests for impaired driving, two misdemeanor arrests, and fifteen citations for various violations including driving while unlicensed.

 

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

 

Funding for this checkpoint and DUI enforcement patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

SUBJECT:    Officers Respond to Fight Call Arrest a Subject Carrying a Firearm in a School Zone

LOCATION: Hill St. at G St., Oxnard

On May 23rd, at approximately 3:54 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) responded to the area of Hill St. and G St., to assist with a fight call.  As the officers arrived in the area, they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that they believed to be involved in the fight.

 

Officers contacted the driver, Arturo Reyes, and a right front passenger.  During the contact officers discovered that Reyes was unlicensed.  Officers had Reyes exit the vehicle and discovered Reyes was in possession of a concealed 9-millimeter, semi-automatic handgun.  Reyes was arrested for felony firearms violations including violating California’s “Gun-Free School Zone Act” (Unlawfully carrying a firearm within 1000 feet of a school).  The passenger was found to have committed no violations and was released from the stop.

SUBJECT:    Subject with Federal Firearms Violation Warrant Found in Possession of Loaded P80 Handgun

LOCATION: Seaside Dr. at Halyard St.

On May 23rd, at approximately 4:34 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop at Seaside Dr. and Halyard St., in the city of Port Hueneme.  Officers had previously identified the driver as Eddie Rojo, and knew that Rojo had a federal warrant for firearms violations.  Officers detained Rojo and found Rojo in possession of a loaded 9-millimeter, Glock-style, P80 handgun. Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are sold commercially as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms.

 

One of the passengers in the vehicle was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, and a second passenger was released from the scene.

SUBJECT:    Subject Rearrested for Firearm and Narcotics Charges

LOCATION: F St. at Fourth St., Oxnard

On May 22nd, at approximately 5:33 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at F St. and Fourth St. The traffic stop was pursuant to a search warrant authored by detectives from the Oxnard Violent Crimes Unit.  The subject of the search warrant, identified as Manuel Moreno, was detained and found to be in possession of an illegal knife and was arrested for the violation.

 

Special Enforcement Unit officers and Violent Crimes Unit detectives followed up with a search warrant in the 100 block of North H St.  During the service of the warrant officers located approximately 5 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.5 pounds of fentanyl, which is consistent with quantities possessed for sales.  Officers also located numerous gun parts, ammunition, a large quantity of US Currency, and an 80%, semi-automatic, short-barreled, AR style, .223 caliber rifle.  80% rifles are sold commercially as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms.  Moreno had been previously arrested by Special Enforcement Unit officers for narcotics and firearms violations five days ago.

Oxnard Police Department to hold DUI Checkpoint and use extra officers to patrol for suspected impaired drivers

 

The Oxnard Police Department will have additional officers working patrol on Friday, May 23, 2025, specifically looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In addition, the Oxnard Police Department will hold a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city. The DUI Checkpoint and DUI patrols will be from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

 

DUI checkpoints and patrols are done in locations with a history of DUI-related collisions and arrests. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

 

The Oxnard Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

 

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

 

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

SUBJECT:    Hot Prowl Burglary

SUSPECT:    Diego Peralta, 20-year-old Oxnard Resident

LOCATION:  1200 Block Nautical Way, Oxnard

On the above date/time, Oxnard Police officers responded to a hot prowl burglary in the 1200 block of Nautical Way. The suspect, identified as Diego Peralta, entered the residence by removing a window screen and climbing through an unlocked window. Once inside, Peralta took the car keys from the victim’s purse and entered the vehicle parked in the garage. The victim confronted Peralta, prompting him to flee the residence. Responding officers located and detained Peralta nearby. He was positively identified during the investigation. Peralta was also found to have stolen property tied to crimes committed in the City of Ventura. The Ventura Police Department responded and also assisted with the investigation.

SUBJECT:    Two Passengers Arrested for Firearm Possession

LOCATION: Rose Ave. at Eastman Ave., Oxnard

SUSPECT:    Jordan Lee, 25-year-old Oxnard resident

                     Johnathan Palazuelos, 26-year-old Oxnard resident

On May 21st, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Rose Ave. and Eastman Ave. for observed vehicle code infractions.  Officers ultimately had the occupants exit the vehicle.  Officers searched the vehicle and located two loaded Glock handguns.  The two passengers in the vehicle, identified as Jordan Lee and Johnathan Palazuelos, were ultimately charged with illegal firearm possession.  The driver was released at the scene.

On May 21st, 2025 at approx. 1:24 P.M., the Oxnard Police Department received a call for service regarding a fight involving a firearm in the 1400 block of Halesia Ln.  Officers responded and contacted the suspect, Joseph Munoz, in a vehicle leaving the scene.  During that contact, Munoz was found to be in possession of an unregistered concealed firearm along with bulk quantities of cannabis/psilocybin and indicia of narcotics sales.  Munoz was arrested for the firearms violation as well as being in possession for sales of cannabis/psilocybin.
