SUBJECT: Suspect Arrested After Stabbing Victim Dies in Oxnard

On October 24, 2020, at 10:37 A.M., Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of a fight in progress, with one subject possibly armed with a knife, in the 3700 block of Saviers Road. It was reported that one subject had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they located a male victim, later identified as Corey Smith, a 25 year old Oxnard resident. He was suffering from a stab wound to his chest. He was unconscious and unresponsive.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and immediately transported Smith to Ventura County Medical Center for medical treatment. Unfortunately, Smith succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital.
Cody Washington was detained at the scene by officers and determined to be the suspect. He was taken to the Oxnard Police Department where he was subsequently charged with the murder of Cory Smith. The investigation is still on-going.
This is the 7th homicide this year in the City of Oxnard. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with any information regarding this incident.
