DETAILS:
On October 24, 2019, at approximately 1630 hours, officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired near the intersection of First and Sarita Street. Officers located shell casings in the roadway but no crime victim. Later, at approximately 9:32 p.m., a two-officer patrol unit working an enhanced gang enforcement detail was conducting proactive patrols in the same area when they observed suspect Emmanuel Estrella commit a vehicle code violation on a bicycle. As officers went to contact Estrella, he dismounted his bicycle and began walking away. Officers detained Estrella in the 1400 block of East First Street and, during a search of his person, located a loaded handgun in his front pant pocket. Estrella is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing any firearm and/or ammunition. He was arrested for the felony charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, along a misdemeanor charge for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
