On September 18, at approximately 5:57 p.m., Officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop of a blue Infiniti Q60 at the intersection of Sunkist Circle and Statham Blvd for a traffic violation. Officers contacted Marcos Nunez (26yrs) in the vehicle. Nunez is a known criminal street gang member within the City of Oxnard. During the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted.
During the search of the vehicle, a loaded .22 caliber Taurus semi-automatic handgun, a loaded .38 Special Smith and Wesson Revolver, several replica firearms and numerous additional rounds of .22 caliber and .38 Special ammunition were located. Neither of the firearms were found to be registered.
Special Enforcement Unit Officers were assisted in this joint investigation by the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), the Oxnard Police K-9 Unit and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Special Crimes Unit. Oxnard VCU Detectives authored a search warrant for Nunez residence at the 100 block of north “I” Street. During the service of the search warrant additional rounds of .22 caliber and .38 Special ammunition was located.
Nunez was arrested for numerous firearms related offences.
